"You're hardworking" Damien complimented with a smile as he walked towards her.
Adrian's face flushed.
Damien rested his hands on her table and peered closely at her.
She tried to look away.
"I think we should head home now" he uttered softly.
Adrian glanced around in surprise.
-So we're the only ones still present?
She marvelled within. The load of work had caused her to lose track of time.
She could only nod shyly at what Damien suggested. She began to pack the files on the table.
As she did so, one of them dripped to the ground.
Both of them darted at the file to pick and they hit their head as a result.
"Oh! Sorry about that" Damien said and they both burst into a round of laughter.
They stared at each other for a while, not uttering a single word.
Then slowly, Damien reached for her face with his.
He got closer and closer and they both were feeling the heat between them.
But suddenly, Adrian swerved her face aside.
"We have to get going" she muttered as she picked up the files and stands to her feet.
Damien also stands to his feet and rubs his palms on his pants.
"Alright, let's go," he said.
Damien volunteered to give her a ride home but she refused, saying she would just call her friend to pick her up. But in reality, she didn't want her boss to find out she was living in a hotel. That would be bad news for the first day of work.
Damien was forced to leave without her while Adrian dialled Avery's number hoping she would pick her up. Luckily she picked up and agreed to come along.
When she arrived with her boyfriend's car, she begins to narrate all that had happened on the first day of work.
"Are telling me they made you work on the day you got hired? " Avery quizzed surprisingly.
"I'm telling you, girl, I wasn't even given a day or two to prepare" Adrian added.
"Wow that's really off," Avery said as she made a right turn on the road
"And you know what's more intriguing, my boss is actually..." Adrian dragged her words deliberately.
"Is actually what?" Avery asked out of curiosity.
"He is the Prince Charming I told you about" Adrian finished abruptly and Avery instantly lost balance of the vehicle. She was lucky to quickly take control again. There was a moment of silence in the car.
"Sorry about that, you just gave me a shocker"
"I know, right. Wonder how my life could get any more miserable" Adrian said with her voice getting lower. She sighed and rested her head on her palm facing out the window.
Seeing her friend's sudden change in demeanour, Avery said "Hey, just know I'm here for you okay" she reaches for her friend's hand and interlocked them together. Adrian looked into her eyes closely and couldn't help but thinking how Avery has been a blessing to her all her life. They were both orphans but Avery was more vigorous and persistent than she was.
The two friends switch to a different topic as they drove to their abode.
...
That night when Damien got home, he had ignored Selena's greetings totally. He just went to his room and slipped into his bed with the thought of Adrian filling his head.
Even though Selena had tried her best to seduce him, he would not budge. She eventually had to just give up.
Adrian on the other hand couldn't get her mind off her new boss. It was unbelievable to think that she would meet him again.
Was it a coincidence that they met again?
And although Adrian didn't want him to know her, she felt a bit downgraded that the very person who had fucked her couldn't even recognize her. It pinched her heart a bit and those were the only thoughts she had till she fell asleep.
...
"Shit!" Adrian cussed under her breath before dashing into her bathroom. She had woken up late this morning. She hurriedly brushed her teeth, took her bath and dressed up shabbily before checking out of the hotel for the day.
She boarded a cab to work. She didn't have enough time to wait for Avery.
Immediately she got to work, she met the HR manager lashing angry words at a few staff.
"Why would you arrive late to work when you have an important presentation this morning, what if the clients had arrived early?" the large bosom woman yelled at the two petite ladies before her.
Adrian immediately felt a lump in her throat. She was late also. But she didn't have an important presentation that morning.
Wait, why was she even afraid of this woman? As the secretary of the CEO, shouldn't she be in a higher position than an ordinary HR manager? She wasn't sure about that as she thought this company might have another unusual ranking. It already had an abnormal lunch period.
Mustering up some courage Adrian walked over to the woman. She felt the woman's gaze on her as she walked passed and she wished to be swallowed up by the ground.
"Miss secretary, you're early" she heard the woman say. She wanted to be relieved but she thought that she might mean it sarcastically. Not until the plump woman asked.
"Your work commences by 10 am, didn't you know?". Adrian now had the privilege to feel relieved. Here she was thinking that she was late for work, meanwhile, she was very early.
She turned to the woman and smiles warmly at her.
"Oh, I didn't know but thanks for informing me um ..."
"Melinda"
"Melinda" Adrian repeated and continues towards her office.
"She didn't Damien there yet. She reasoned that it was because she was early. She used this opportunity to finish up some work she wasn't able to do the previous day.
...
Damien alighted his exotic vehicle and walked towards his company's building. As he made his way into the building, several greetings and pleasantries echoed.
"Hood morning Sir"
"Good morning boss"
"Morning sir"
He didn't reply to them all though, he didn't have to. He was the CEO.
He goes to the conference hall where he meets with some clients. They wanted to purchase some of the company's shares. He chatted with them and after some business agreements and negotiations, they all watch a presentation from two of his staff before he heads to his office.
As he was about to enter his office, he hears racing footsteps behind him. He turns to see Astrid, his bodyguard.
He was panting heavily like he had just finished a mile race.
"What's wrong?" Damien questioned curtly, already irritated by his actions.
"Sir–ah...the....ohh...lady..."
"What lady?!" Damien couldn't take this anymore, he bellowed coldly AY Astrid.
"The–lady that was missing, that's...her," he said, pointing to the direction of his office.
As if expecting it to be someone else, Damien turns to his office. And there she was, his beautiful secretary, innocently typing away at her computer, immersed in her duties.
Damien couldn't believe his ears and eyes. This very lady is the same lady he had ducked without even knowing her. No wonder he felt so attached to her, no wonder he felt so familiar with her.
She is the one.
