Chapter 7 Maple, Cinnamon and Betrayal

Today was my birthday. My parents always made a big deal out of it, and a cake sang to me and asked me what I wanted for breakfast. I always thought it was overkill. I never really enjoyed my birthday because it was the countdown till my day of death. Whenever that day might come.

This year, on the other hand, was a bit different. There was just one thing on my mind. Soon I will be meeting my mate. It's always been easier for alphas to find their mates as we move to different packs fairly often for meetings. So I have no doubt I will find her soon. I can't wait for the power she will give me. I was thinking about who she could be and what I would do to her. My parents always said finding your mate was a big deal. There is no bigger love than that you feel towards your mate. I never really cared for that part, I just cared for the power it would bring me.

As I arrived at school, I was making my way to the library to wait for Red. The smell of maple and cinnamon hit my nose as I walked down the hallways. It was faint. But I knew it was my mate. As I followed the scent like a hunter after its prey, suddenly I was pulled into the janitor's closet. The scent was stronger. I turned around to see Saige and my eyes grew in lust. Was it really Saige? I was kind of shocked as I just decided to use her as a f**k buddy.

I ripped her clothes off her body with force. I don't care why she might have dragged me into the closet but I'm claiming my mate as much as I can. I can't mark her yet as I have to mark her in front of the whole pack. A moan escaped her mouth, making me hard. As I took off the sweater she had on, but the scent moved. I pushed her off me and held the sweater straight up to my nose.

It wasn't Saige's scent. But who was it? Suddenly, the smell started to become stronger. At this point, it's as if she was right behind the door. I have no doubt in my mind that she's smelling me right now. I threw the sweater to Saige as well as the rest of the clothes. "Get dressed, I smell my mate" I said with anxiousness filling my heart. "I can't let my mate meet me like this" I said the last word in disgust. "No baby don't leave me for her... Stay with me" Saige whined and pouted her lips threatening to cry. "I won't leave you baby, you'll be my mistress. Don't you see", I convinced her just so she could stop whining and get dressed.

Whether I meant it or not I am unsure. I just knew I was desperate for my mate to not be disgusted with me. I couldn't let this power slip out of my hands. Alphas are known to be stronger when they have their true mate by their side. I need to be a strong alpha just like my father. I started thinking of excuses I could possibly make.

The door handle went down slowly. My eyes grew in anticipation to see the wonderful beauty that was holding the key to my full potential power. I imagined what she would look like. What if she was that hot teacher from history? The scent filled my lungs and made my already hard bulge even harder. I was so filled with lust it was almost unbearable. I wanted to just yank the door open but I was frozen and in a hypnotizing sweet smell. I can't believe she's been under my nose this whole time. "Red?" I looked shocked as I was observing her beauty.

Her hair, which was like fiery red embers flowing down in loose waves, was cascading over her shoulders and back. Being the perfect contrast to her beautiful green dress that fit her curves so slightly while still being loose and flowy. Her shoulders and neck were left bare, making my lust grow. That's where my mark will go, right there on her sweet spot. I lick my lips at the thought trailing my eyes further down her body. She is showing off her long legs in all their glory. Legs I would love to have wrapped around me right now. Then her beautiful soft pink lips I can imagine how her sweet moans would sound. Instead, it's pulled into a frown and quivering. The sudden drop of what seems to be a present rips me back to reality. Her emerald green eyes started to collide with the redness replacing her white. A glossy layer forms over her eyes and a single tear glides down her cheek in a slow, elegant manner.

Without a word from her she ran away before I could even comprehend what had happened. "Red is my mate?" I whispered my thoughts in disbelief. "WHAT?" an angry deafening shriek came from right beside my ear. I turned to see Saige with so much anger it seemed like her head was about to explode. I didn't have patience to deal with her whining and complaining. I was in a state of shock and found myself grabbing the present she had dropped earlier.

Was this for me? I tore it open and saw the most thoughtful gift in existence. A book of all the greatest Alphas ever recorded in history. She has always been a sweet person. Maybe that is why I could never have seen her with me. I'm a cold-hearted ,power-hungry person. Even though these are usually seen as bad characteristics, I was proud of who I am. We were opposites, but maybe the moon goddess intended it so for her to balance me out.

The realization suddenly dawned on me. S**t I f***ed up badly. Why can't I think with my head when it comes to women? I guess all alphas have a weakness. That's no excuse though. Now I might lose the only thing that will make me all the more powerful. I have to make things right.
