Chapter 7 PART 6

Part 6 - Proposed in Front of the Beloved.

The gathering at Grand Ma's house had come to an end, and the guests had started leaving. The Perdana family, Tante's close friends, bid their farewell, but Zaldy, their eldest son, stayed behind because he had some matters to discuss with Byan.

Chairs that were once arranged neatly for the guests were now being tidied up. Grand Ma called Anyelir into her room. As Anyelir entered the room, she saw Byan and Tante Ingrid were also there.

She felt a bit confused. Why did it seem like something significant was about to be discussed? Shouldn't it be just her in this situation? Why did Byan and Tante have to be here too?

As soon as Anyelir took her seat as directed by Tante, Emil entered the room from outside and sat next to her. Their seating arrangement resembled defendants awaiting a verdict in front of Grand Ma, Tante Ingrid, and Byan.

"Anyelir, there's something I need to tell you," Grand Ma said.

Anyelir tried to calm her racing heart and looked at each of their faces – Grand Ma, Tante Ingrid, and Byan. She could feel Byan's gaze, but she chose to focus on Grand Ma.

"Anyelir, you are of age now, and it's time for me to see you get married."

Her palms suddenly became sweaty. Not now... Please, not now.

"Emil has officially proposed to you in front of me and Tante."

Her heart sank.

"Byan was the witness."

Anyelir immediately glanced at Byan.

Their eyes met.

"Tante wants you to have a good future husband, Nye. And according to Tante, Emil meets all the requirements." Tante started speaking.

"Tan, I..." Anyelir was at a loss for words, her throat felt constricted, as if something was stuck there. Even swallowing her saliva felt difficult.

"We discussed it earlier, Oma," Emil said, reaching for Anyelir's hand.

"And Anyelir agreed."

Anyelir even let Emil hold her hand and bring it close to his lips, affectionately kissing it.

Anyelir didn't protest. She didn't protest because she was waiting.

She was waiting for someone to object to Emil's words, but unfortunately, it was all in vain. The one she had hoped to object didn't say a word. Byan didn't say anything. Shouldn't he have told Grand Ma and Tante about their relationship?

"Thank you, dear. I'm so happy. Why didn't you say you agreed earlier?" Grand Ma stood up from her seat and hugged Anyelir. Tante Ingrid also got up and patted Anyelir's arm.

Anyelir closed her eyes as she was embraced by Grand Ma, but when she opened her eyes again, her gaze met Byan's. She was briefly stunned, as the look in Byan's eyes was the same-the one that had once captivated her, the one that made her believe he had feelings for her. But why didn't Byan object to the proposal? Why did he stay silent? Byan should have told Grand Ma and Tante about their relationship.

"Goodness, Oma is so happy! Why didn't you say you agreed earlier, Anyelir?" Grand Ma exclaimed.

Emil suddenly looked shocked. "What? How can that be? Weren't you with her and Bila just now?"

"Yes, the three of us were talking, and then Nico called. Suddenly, Adinda started crying. She said Nico called off the wedding."

"What?" Anyelir gasped.

"And where is Adinda now?" Emil asked with concern.

Nabila rushed in, looking pale. "Nye, Adinda... Adinda is gone."

Emil was taken aback. "Gone? What do you mean? Wasn't she with you and Bila?"

"Yes, we were together, chatting, and then Nico called. Adinda started crying and said Nico called off the wedding. After that, she ran away. I tried to chase her, but she didn't listen." Nabila was panting, trying to catch her breath.

Hearing that, Emil immediately grabbed his car keys. "Where are you going?" Anyelir asked.

"I'll try to find her with the car." Then Emil left without taking anyone else.

Anyelir saw an opportunity.

"Let's split up. Bila, you and Lala go one way, and I'll go the other. I'm afraid Adinda might get lost. Don't forget to bring a flashlight." Anyelir immediately took a jacket and a flashlight.

Meanwhile, Tante Ingrid decided to stay at home with Grand Ma.

"Are you sure you can go alone?" Lala asked, receiving the flashlight from Anyelir.

"I know the area better. You go left, I'll go right, okay?"

Of course, Anyelir chose to go towards the guest house. Hopefully, she would find Adinda soon, she thought. She had promised Byan to meet at the cream house tonight. She needed to resolve everything tonight, all her feelings.

Nabila's shout from outside startled Anyelir, Emil, Grand Ma, and Tante Ingrid.

Lala came into the room, looking pale. "Nye, Adinda... Adinda is nowhere to be found."

Emil was shocked. "Nowhere to be found? How is that possible? Wasn't she with you and Bila?"

"Yes, the three of us were talking, and then Nico called. Adinda started crying, and she said Nico called off the wedding. After that, she ran away. I tried to chase her, but she didn't listen." Nabila was panting, trying to catch her breath.

Hearing that, Emil immediately grabbed his car keys. "Where are you going?" Anyelir asked.
