Chapter 5 5. Indifferent

Livy quietly said to herself, 'He's so handsome.' It was hard to take her eyes off him after her eyes landed on that handsome face. She felt somewhat disrespectful by this action, then averted her gaze nervously.

"I will prepare a personal driver for you." Arthur said suddenly.

"Why?" Livy looked up again.

Once she looked up again, she couldn't help but notice how gracefully Arthur held the spoon and fork. When the man chewed, his lips moved slowly, the food that entered his mouth was not in big mouthfuls. Is this what the rich people call table manners?

"I mean, why did you prepare a driver for me? I'm used to going by bus or on foot." Livy explained.

"Evan said that you are still a private tutor. Your place of teaching is quite far from here, isn't it?" he said.

Oh. That was what it means ...

Livy lowered her head again as Arthur stared at her intensely. "It's not that far away for me."

"You're my wife now. I don't mind if you want to take the bus to go anywhere, but once in a while you can use a driver too so that other people don't turn this into gossip."

Arthur didn't really care about the gossip other people made of him, but he didn't want Livy to get involved. If they saw Livy getting on the bus when she was officially his wife, one could think that their marriage was simply forced.

"I see," Livy replied.

"What are you going to do today?" Arthur wiped his mouth with a napkin and finished eating.

Livy looked at him again, right into his quirky, misty eyes. "I'm off teaching today, so I'll be completely resting at home. Do you usually come home late at night?"

Arthur nodded.

"Is there anything you want to eat at that time?" Livy asked, then explained, "I-I have nothing to do, just staying at home would be boring, if you need anything I can do it for you."

Arthur's eyes were cold and indifferent as he looked ahead. It was like penetrating her, at the same time as researching her as well. She was nervous.

"All the maids will. You don't have to do anything," Arthur replied and he stood up.

Livy understood the distance Arthur had placed on her, with these words, the meaning was clear that he did not accept her service. She could only sigh.

"You're leaving now?" Livy couldn't help but ask.

"Yes, continue your meal."

After that Arthur left.

Without Arthur, the atmosphere in the house grew cold. When Arthur was here, the atmosphere in the house was also cold and strange, but when he was gone, the house grew colder to the point of freezing. In the house maids were very professional and well trained. They said they come from a company that provides specially trained maid services, so they didn't really like small talk with her.

The maids wore special uniforms. There were a lot of maids, so wherever Livy walked, she would see them. Each of them has a different task.

At this moment, Livy saw the chef clearing the table.

"Young Lady, is this food to your taste? Young Master said before he left, if you have food you like, you can tell me. I will prepare it."

Livy was surprised to hear that. Arthur said that?

"The food here is made according to Young Master's taste. His health is not good, so all food must be in healthy and nutritious portions. For people who are not used to it, they will be bored."

There were actually a lot of vegetables served on the table, but Arthur only ate boiled vegetables and fish soup in small portions.

"Is he used to eating so little?" Livy asked.

The chef smiled. "Yes. Young Master usually doesn't eat breakfast, but this morning he had breakfast because you were here, to make you feel comfortable."

Livy's brow furrowed deeply.

Why did Arthur care so much about this kind of thing? He was very cold, but actually also cared in a nonchalant way.

There was still so much Livy wanted to ask, only to find the chef back in the kitchen. She didn't eat much today, luckily she wasn't too hungry, so she went back to the room.

On the way, another maid came up to her, "Young Lady, I have prepared a study room for you. You can see if there is anything lacking in it. If there is any deficiency, you can tell me or the head butler."

The head butler in question, Livy saw him yesterday, he was an old man who still looked healthy and fit, named Jim.

She asked, "Was this also prepared on Arthur's orders?"

"That's right, Young Lady."

Livy had guessed, so why did she have to ask again?

"I'll see it."

After all Livy did not have any activities, immediately the maid showed the way to the study room. It was right next to her room on the second floor. So this house has three floors. On the second floor there were five doors. It just so happened that her room was on the far right, and Arthur's on the far left, that meant they were separated by three other rooms. She had just found out that the room next to her was actually a room too, but in the two days before the wedding, it had been turned into a study.

When she walked in, there were ceiling-high bookshelves, every gap filled with new books by famous authors. It was a special educational support book. Now that she knew why Arthur had asked about the major she was taking, it turned out that it wasn't just for fun, but to prepare all of this.

Livy somehow felt a little scared.

Rich people are so easy to do anything. The room was completed in two days and the decor was made as comfortable as possible. All the materials look expensive. In addition to the bookshelf, there was a desk and laptop on top, a gilded sofa, a soft velvet rug, and quirky wall hangings.

Livy had also been in affluent economies in the past, but compared to Arthur's wealth, that was just the tip of a small needle. This difference was too great.

Now she wondered if all this wealth was the result of Arthur's hard work alone, or with his father as well. By the way her father-in-law still hasn't retired at this time either, right?

"Young Lady, I'll leave you. Look what's lacking from here, I'll be back with a snack." The maid resigned.

What was lacking?

This was so complete that she was speechless!

Livy picked up a book on state law and sat down on the sofa. Because she wanted to be a lawyer, she was very excited to read the book and she spent the whole day there. The cake and green tea that the maid served was also good, she felt very pampered.

She put the last book on the shelf and stretched. Coming out of there, she saw the maid still working. She decided to go to the room.

"Young Lady, you missed lunch." A maid said after knocking on her room door and this was a different maid even though they asked the same thing every hour.

"I've eaten a lot of sweet cakes. I'm so full."

Since there was nothing else, the maid left. It had only been a few minutes since the maid had left, another maid came in, and Livy almost laughed at seeing how tiring this was all. And this time it turned out to be the butler.

"Lady, Master asked you to get ready at seven p.m. After he returns, he will take you to the main house." The butler said.

The main house mean the home of Arthur's parents. They didn't talk much before the wedding because they were too busy. Livy thought it was a tradition to honor elders and she readily agreed. The butler brought new clothes for Livy to wear and it was a pretty knee-length dress.

Livy thanked him and stared at the dress in amazement.

After all these years, she finally had a new dress for herself. She was very moved. Before, she used to wear Brenda's used clothes, sometimes the clothes she received were torn or faded, but she didn't complain. Seeing her being pampered like this by Arthur, she almost forgot the suffering of living at aunt's house.

"Master is waiting in the car." The butler announced exactly seven o'clock.

"Thank you, Uncle Jim."

"Lady, don't hesitate, just call me Jim." Jim said politely.

Livy agreed and hurried down the stairs and headed for the door. The black car waiting in front was ready to go. The driver who saw Livy immediately opened the door for her, as soon as she entered, she saw Arthur was there.

Tonight, Livy dressed up with the help of one of the maids. Because she was born beautiful, when she dressed like this, her beauty immediately radiated well. Her long hair was tied in a bun and decorated with a beautiful flower pin. Made her look a bit mature.

Livy was currently twenty, dressed like this, she felt commensurate with Arthur who was ten years her senior.

The car started immediately when Livy was well seated. They only had brief greetings, but she chatted with each other for a while after that because Arthur was busy with his work tablet. Livy was nervous about her appearance, all the way her heart was beating.

"Is it boring at home?" Arthur asked suddenly.

Livy glanced at Arthur who was still busy with the tablet in his hand. "Not bored. You made a nice study room for me, I still thank you."

"That's good."

Then he fell silent again. Livy felt a little annoyed that it was so difficult to establish a harmonious conversation with this man, she thought about what to say until she saw Arthur finished with his tablet. The man leaned his head against the car seat, closing his eyes.

Even under these circumstances he was still handsome, the cold and hard-to-touch kind of handsomeness.

"Are you tired?" Livy looked at him from the side, noticing the exhaustion on Arthur's face and a bit worried. "You're tired from work and still have to go to dinner. Why not turn it down?"

"Just a little sleepy." Arthur answered without opening his eyes. Then he coughed lightly.

Arthur clearly emphasized the distance between them when he only answered the first half of her question. Livy, who originally wanted to ask about Arthur's illness, why he was coughing so often and since when he started getting sick immediately dismissed it.

That was not a problem either. If Livy needed Arthur's help to keep her away from her aunt, she didn't need to know anything else, she just had to make a good face in front of Arthur.

Until the two of them finished with this business, they would part on good terms.

"Your father ... is so similar to you." Livy smiled gently.

"Mn."

Livy continued to ask, "Do you have a brother or sister?"

"Youngest brother ... I guess."

'I guess?' What does it mean?

Before Livy could reply, she saw Arthur open his patterned eyes, look straight ahead blankly, then said, "No matter what happens in that house later, you just have to be quiet."

... to be continued ...
