Chapter 2 Honeymoon

Lyla had asked for a divorce three months ago, but Joshua hadn't replied a word. It was as though he didn't know anything about it. Unexpectedly, three months later, when she "got cheated on", he suddenly brought it up.

And why did his tone of inquiry sound so sarcastic?

Lyla, however, was no pushover. She looked at her newly-manicured nails and deliberately tried to provoke him, "At least he's good in bed. You, on the other hand..."

Joshua remained expressionless. He just looked at her steadily, unfazed by her outright insult to his manhood.

That was right. Such a provocation might've worked on ordinary men, but Joshua was always calm and collected, even being insulted.

But that was precisely why Lyla wanted to leave him. He was just so boring! It seemed that this man would never lose control of himself. He didn't flinch when she questioned him who lived on 14th Springton Street. He was also calm as usual when she demanded a divorce.

Pursing her lips, Lyla didn't say anything more. Anyway, her husband had had enough fun for today. It was meaningless for her to win this round of banter.

So she simply turned her head and looked out the window. The scenery outside was unfamiliar to her. Frowning, she asked, "It's not the way home, is it?"

"Dad and Mom miss us. They called me to ask if we could have dinner with them," Joshua explained patiently.

Oh. It suddenly clicked. Lyla took out a tissue and wiped off the red lipstick on her lips, and then took out another lipstick from her bag.

The color of the new lipstick wasn't fiery red like the earlier one, but a muted nude pink, which made her look more reserved and gentle.

The car soon pulled to a stop in the yard of the Harvey Residence. A servant trotted over to open the door for them. After getting out of the car, Lyla naturally slipped her arm around Joshua's. The two exchanged knowing glances and then stepped inside the house together like a loving couple.

"We're home!" Lyla announced brightly.

"Lyla!" When Joshua's mother, Maureen, came out of the kitchen, Lyla couldn't wait to hug her.

Maureen was pleased with Lyla's affectionate behavior. She looked her daughter-in-law up and down and frowned. "It's getting colder every day, yet you wear such thin clothes. Your hands are cold, too. Joshua, you should take care of your wife!"

Lyla blinked at her innocently. "Joshua is always so busy. He doesn't have the time to look after me."

With a gentle smile on his face, Joshua said lightly, "I'll take you to Iceland to see the Aurora Borealis once I'm done dealing with work. You have always wanted to travel there, right?"

Hearing this, Lyla beamed at him happily.

In Maureen's eyes, the two looked at each other with unconditional love. She sighed in satisfaction.

Joshua's father, Kameron, was a serious man, but because he hadn't seen his son and daughter-in-law in a long time, he smiled at them warmly. "Sit down. It's almost time for dinner. Maureen did some cooking by herself, knowing that you would be here for dinner tonight."

Lyla grinned in surprise, "Oh, my Gosh! Really? That's great! It's been a while since I tasted Maureen's home cooking and I really missed it. Thank you, Maureen!"

Lyla sat down next to Maureen at the table, constantly complimenting Maureen on her cooking.

She'd also occasionally urged Joshua to try some dishes, but none of which were his favorite. When he looked up at her with a thoughtful gaze, Lyla smiled back at him innocently. She was doing it on purpose.

Joshua shrugged it off and ate the food recommended by Lyla without any complaints.

He and Kameron talked about work over dinner. When Joshua mentioned that a big project was about to be completed, Kameron nodded with satisfaction.

"Just now you said that you were going to take Lyla to Iceland. I think that's a marvelous idea. When you got married, we were so preoccupied with the overseas cooperation that you skipped your honeymoon. This trip can make up for that."

"And maybe you'll come home pregnant," Maureen said with a wink. "I'm counting on it."

The piece of meat that Lyla had just picked up with her fork suddenly fell to her plate with a clatter. She abruptly raised her head and looked at Joshua, just in time to catch him frowning. However, the next second, the frown disappeared.
