Chapter 6 Working at Morrow's company

She stepped into the company with courage.

She was looking rather too nervous or shy as she sees the announcement board which stated that all new employees should go to the hall they had been interviewed.

Gladys held tight her handbag as she walked to the hall she already know.

She was dressed in a neat black skirt that stopped at her kneel with a white T-shirt.

Her hair fell at her back with her polished shoes.

She had almost forgotten about Naomi whom she had met as she stretched out her neck eye - searching for Naomi.

Gladys couldn't see a trace of Naomi and she thought Naomi wasn't chosen as she felt bad for the girl.

A man walked in and Gladys identify him to be Mr. Alfred as he began addressing them.

He shared them to three teams and Gladys was teamed with the launch team.

"Naomi Gabriel" Mr. Alfred called and Gladys gasp wondering if Naomi was chosen she looked back as Naomi pointed her hand.

"You will be joining the launch team as well." He added and Gladys smile though Naomi didn't see her.

Mr. Alfred ended his speech with a conclusion that they should be good with whatever they're assigned to do and should respect everyone in the company.

With a stroke of ' good luck coming from him, he walked away.

"Hey," Gladys called Naomi as she walked towards her Naomi turned to Gladys and widened her eyes surprised.

"You made it," Naomi said excitedly.

"We did make it." Gladys chipped in.

"What team are you in?" Naomi questioned.

"I guess you weren't paying attention. Same as your team." She replied.

"I can't believe you were chosen." A lady uttered sarcastically and they identify her to be one of the ladies who mocked Gladys's dress the previous day.

"You dare guess it was the power of decent dressing." Gladys fired.

"Decent dressing doesn't rule the fashion world." The lady retorted.

"Hey girlie--" Naomi was saying before getting interrupted by the lady

"It's Precious by name."

"Oh. I guess you're precious in the sight of lustful eyes." Gladys lambasted. "Let's go, Naomi."

They walked out of the hall not giving Precious the chance to reply as they use the elevator.

"Just forget about what she said." Naomi conversed.

"It won't bother me either," Gladys replied.

The elevator opens as they walk out of it and Gladys breathed out.

"Okay, I have a job now," Gladys says beaming with smiles.

"And it's not a dream," Naomi added and they both chuckled.

"How may I help you?" A middle-aged woman with tiny glasses asked after noticing the ladies to have been standing in the hallway for a while.

"Hello Ma." They greeted bowing a little.

"We... We are to work with the launch team." Naomi informed the woman.

"And you're still standing there chitchatting?" The woman rhetorically asked with a strict look walking away and they ran after her.

They entered an office with the woman.

The office was wide with desks, office chairs, and printing machines with some young guys and ladies working.

Gladys mumbled a ' wow at the ambiance of quiet and peaceful working as the woman clapped her hands bringing the attention of the worker.

"Okay guys, here are our new colleagues, they'd be joining the team starting today." She announced and Gladys realize they were in the launch team office.

"I am Naomi Gabriel." Naomi introduced herself.

"Gladys Morgan. It's nice to be here." She said.

"I'm the director of the launch team. Call me Nicole." The woman informed them and they nodded.

"Yes, Ms. Nicole." They chorus.

"Nicole only." Nicole corrected and they wonder why she asked them to drop the formality as they nods.

Nicole assigned them a seat and as well a mentor.

On the first day at work, Gladys felt like the heavens made a covenant to always be on her side.

The day's work went smoothly with her answering politely at every mention of her name.

Working with Naomi was fun as well and their mentor made them know all there was about the launch team.

The colleagues were peaceful with each other and cooperative as well and there was nothing more Gladys could ask for as she worked diligently at every little work assigned to her.

"Okay guys, let's go for lunch." Collins, Gladys, and Naomi's mentor called out.

"Y'all have twenty minutes to do that." Nicole tells them."fifteen minutes extra for Collins and the new employees. You should show them around." She ordered him and he nodded with other employees murmuring at the given time to eat.

They walked together to the cafeteria.

Taking their meals, they chose a table and sat together as well eating.

"I must say you both look pretty." A colleague complimented me.

"Thanks." Naomi appreciated and Gladys didn't find the need to as she smile a bit, eating the donut in her mouth.

"By the way. Why did Ms. Nicole allow us to skip formality while calling her?" Naomi asked gulping some water.

"Because she doesn't like it." A female colleague answered.

"But it is every established company's code of respect," Gladys spoke gently.

"We aren't meant to tell you two the main reason because no one apart from us, her workers must know. But since you two are part of the team. It's actually because Nicole is a divorcee and while married she didn't bore any child for her ex-husband. " Collins stated and softhearted Gladys felt sad for Nicole.

"She preferred her name to be called without formality because she want to feel young and ignore the fact that she's getting older or shall I say a divorcee." Another female colleague added and Naomi with Gladys nodded with emotional faces.

"Don't be fooled." Collins snapped at them. "Her nickname is Morrow's witch. She would be the strictest person you had ever met. Be careful around her." He warned and they all laugh.

"In other words, our time is ticking." A male colleague said and three other colleagues stood up and ran out of the cafeteria.

"Okay, I'll be taking you guys around," Collins said standing up and Naomi with Gladys stood up as well.

They walked out of the cafeteria, and Collins began showing them around the company.

Some minutes later, they were done touring the company they returned to the office while Gladys excused herself, walking to the toilet.

She walked out of the toilet after easing herself and as she turned to go. And there, she met with the familiar golden-brown eyeballs gazing at her.
