Chapter 9 Her Lucky Day

"Y... You." Lucy groaned and listened to the beeping sound from the other end. She contemplated where to go for a while, then finally gave the driver her home address.

If she goes to her sisters-in-law's place, they won't stop pestering her with questions until they squeeze the whole truth out of her, and that was like saying it directly to her brothers.

She'd rather face her parents' wrath than her brothers'. And also, her driver whom she had ditched in the middle of the road and ran inside a taxi must have gone back home and told them everything.

Looking down at her dress, she ran her palms through it to smooth out the small creases on it, while the car drove through the city.

When she looked out of the window, the morning sun rays had started peaking out of the horizon and many cars were going to and fro in the city.

She looked away and groaned. Why does she have to bump into that dangerous guy? Did the guys really see them when they stepped inside that room? Had they actually returned to the bar because of them? 'Urgh'

Her head was still buzzing with thoughts when suddenly, something crossed her mind.

She placed a palm on her forehead, then the other palm and her frown deepened. Thinking back to the bottles of alcohol she had last night, she was supposed to have woken up with a splitting headache.

Why did she not feel even a slight pain? 'This was a first.' Did that stupid guy do something to her while she was drunk? Did he make her eat something?

'Oh, no.' Her hand flew to her chest, as her heart pound wildly. He wouldn't have given her anything, she must just be lucky this time. She hopes so.

"Miss, are you alright?" She was jolted out of her shock by the driver's voice and she found him staring at her through the rearview mirror with a puzzled look.

"No... Yes." She quickly nodded then shook her head. "I... I mean, I'm alright. I'm fine."

"Uhm... You look familiar." The old driver continued. "It's like I've seen you somewhere in the past... Where was it?"

The man tapped a finger against his chin and Lucy gulped.

"N... No, Mr. I don't think we've met before," Lucy quickly declined with a wave of both hands. "It's probably someone that looks like–"

"Aha!" The man exclaimed and she flinched back with a gasp.

"It is you... The little princess of the Cha family. You got into a scandal with the twin CEO's a few months ago. How can I forget this outstanding beauty? You were everywhere in the newspapers and the news was the talk of the country..."

Lucy felt like breaking into tears as the driver blabbered nonstop. She covered her face with both palms as he continued.

"Tsk tsk tsk... It was such a pity that the news was taken down instantly. The town finally had something to speak about after a long time... But let me tell you something, miss."

His voice turned serious all of a sudden.

"You might want to keep your distance from them, they've offended countless people and her enemies with almost every thug in the city... I'm afraid even your brother might not be able to save you. You see this car?" He kept on speaking. "I ended up with this after they destroyed my boss's business. In one night, I was turned from a chauffeur to a taxi driver."

He sighed heavily and Lucy lowered her head while fidgeting with the hem of her dress.

Why would they do that to this poor old man? She bit her lips thinking back to how they'd almost lead their cousin, her Big Brother's friend, to bankruptcy and the only person they hadn't dared to trifle with was her Big Brother.

What kind of fun do they derive from hurting people. She had also tasted a fraction of their cunningness and knew what they were capable of.

"Th... Thank you, Mr... I'll take note of that," she looked up and said, and the taxi driver nodded. She also doesn't want to associate herself with any of those dangerous guys.

"Good child... You're so innocent, we don't want you to end up with the bad guys, right?" The man chuckled.

It was a long ride before the taxi arrived in another quiet residential area.

A lot of mansions that all looked similar but had different layouts were lined up facing each other. Security men were patrolling in front of each mansion gate, and when they passed by Gina's house, Lucy ducked quickly, as she could spot the girl's brother's car driving out of the mansion.

The old driver chuckled and she straightened up with an embarrassed expression.

After a few minutes, the car finally stopped in front of another mansion.

She fiddled with her bag to bring out the money when the man instantly stopped her.

"Don't bother about the money," he said with a chuckle.

"But you don't have to..." Lucy shook her head and brought out a note.

"I insist." The man turned back and glanced at her, his wrinkled face creased with a gentle smile. "Who knew what favors you might do for me in the future, Princess." He let out a small laugh.

"Oh." Lucy scratched the back of her head with a chuckle then put back the money and thanked the man.

After stepping out of the car, she waved at the man and then hurried toward the huge gate.

The security guys looked at her in astonishment but none of them uttered a word as they greeted then opened the gate and let her in.

On reaching inside the mansion, the place was strangely quiet. Even the servants that usually tend to the flowers every morning were nowhere in sight.

'Well, they might be in their quarters.' She shrugged and then continued walking toward the large door.

She slightly pushed the door and peeked her head inside. 'Strange. Why is everywhere quiet?' This must be her lucky day.
