Chapter 9 All Wrong

"Hey, Danas. Don't take a taxi, usually take the bus," greeted a woman, as Danas got out of the taxi. "I didn't know you took a few days off, I even called you, but I couldn't get through."

The girl sighed, there was a sense of relief, but her body felt broken at the moment especially when they had just arrived from Germany and Melvin had given her so much work.

Danas looked back. Seeing who greeted him.

"Ah, it's you, Dav."

The girl with short hair, neatly arranged bangs, and pink lipstick on her lips made her face look beautiful. Davina Rahwani-her friend.

"Yes," the girl responded while patting Danas' shoulder.

"Aw..." she whimpered.

"What's wrong? Why are you wincing?"

"Nothing," Danas replied, the girl trying to hide that her body had bruises.

"It's really okay? You're different from usual, you look pale and tired."

"Yes, I'm fine. I didn't get enough sleep."

The short-haired girl just nodded her head. "So, what happened that you took a leave?"

"Um. It-it-"

Danas was at a loss as to what to explain to the girl who was asking him at that moment. She wanted to tell her best friend, but she hesitated, the man who married her was the man who made her family fall into poverty, and Davina knew it.

Puzzled, Danas scratched his unitchy head, making Davina's eyes round.

"Wow, what is it?" asked Davina as she grabbed Danas' hand. "A wedding ring? YYou got married, and didn't invite me?" asked Davina with a hint of annoyance in there.

Danas saw the changed look on her best friend's face, making her confused about where to explain what she experienced. If he told her, then he would have to tell her what happened to him-everything.

"Allow me to explain, Dav."

"Never mind, I don't need your explanation. You getting married, but not telling me, indicates that our friendship is meaningless."

"N-not so, you're my best friend."

"Best friend? Not anymore, when you didn't tell me that you were married." The emphasis on each word made Danas' heart ache.

Davina left him, walking away.

"Not like that, Dav. I wanted to tell you, I wanted to say that I need you, at least when I'm on campus."

"I'll figure out how to explain to Davina what happened," he muttered as he quickened his footsteps.

She knew it wasn't time to think because it was already 10 o'clock, and class was about to start. She saw a man walking in the distance, making her hurry to get to class. A little late, she could have to repeat the next semester.

"Huh! I was almost late," she muttered as she walked into the classroom, and was met by so many pairs of eyes.

"You're almost too late, Dan."

Only a smile was given by her in response. She looked at Davina for a moment, but the girl chose not to look at her. Her best friend seemed genuinely angry with her.

"Dav, let me explain it to you," Danas whispered, but the girl across from him didn't respond at all.

Many times he tried to talk to his best friend, but still did not get a response at all.

"Danas Cakrawala, What have you been doing since then? Would you like to replace me here?" reprimanded the man at the front of the class.

Everyone was looking at her. The strange looks, what she did to make all those people dislike her, made her only able to bow her head looking at her notebook on the table.

"Sorry sir," she said quietly.

"Don't do it again next time or you'll have to drop out of my class and repeat next semester."

Danas rounded his eyes, she couldn't possibly repeat the next semester. She struggled to finish her studies as quickly as possible and find a job, if she repeated then all her efforts would be in vain.

Again she lowered her gaze for a moment, then looked at the lecturer who was standing staring at her coldly, ever since.

"Yes sir, I won't repeat it again."

After class, everyone asked Danas questions, but she ignored all the questions given to her, she just wanted to talk to Davina.

Whispers could be heard, as

"Dav... Dav..." called Danas, but the girl he called ignored him.

"Hey, are you two fighting?" someone asked.

"Wrongly disagreeing!"

The past few days had been very hard for her, nothing good had happened to her, and when she came home, everything would change, the home that was supposed to protect her, but in fact was a hell waiting for her with new things.

Danas just flipped through the pages of the book, which she was reading. Melvin's words last night made her not stop thinking, what had she done, why did her husband say she was a murderer.

"What did I do?" she mumbled. "Who did I kill?" she muttered again.

Her reverie was interrupted when her cell phone vibrated, displaying a name on it.

"Melvin calling."

Seeing that name on his cell phone screen made him jump in surprise, making the chair he was sitting on shift backwards.

"Please, be quiet. This is the library."

"I-I'm sorry," she said as she tidied up her book and hurriedly left there.

She couldn't believe she had done so much wrong today. Making enemies with her best friend, coupled with the incident in class and the library, and she didn't know what would happen if she went home later, remembering Melvin's face made her body stiffen with fear.

On the way she was in the middle of her daydream, causing her to bump into a man.

Her books were scattered everywhere.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to. I didn't see you," said Danas and the man she bumped into simultaneously.

Danas was busy with her scattered books, helped by the man she bumped into.

"M-sorry, I was in a hurry," Danas said apologetically.

"I should apologize," the man said as he handed Danas a book.

Danas took the book, and put it on top.

"Em. Can I ask you something, do you know Davina Rahwani?"

Danas looked at the man who was talking to him. A well-dressed man. Gray shirt, black drill pants, slightly disheveled hair, with sleeves raised to the elbow.

"Excuse me, can't you hear what I am saying?" the man asked, but there was no response from the girl in front of him. "Ah, sorry, you're deaf apparently," said the man while using sign language.

"You looking for Davina?" asked Danas who had woken up from his reverie. The man nodded his head. "And I'm a normal person," said Danas, making the man apologize instantly. "I saw her when class was over," said Danas again. "Sorry, I have to go soon," Danas said as he hurriedly left the man.

Her cell phone vibrated continuously, displaying a name that made her so scared, she wanted to return home immediately.

"Why didn't you pick up my call?" A voice startled him.

Her eyes were slightly rounded with her body tensed up when she saw the man who was in the car, staring at her with a cold gaze, and wanted to grab her.

"I-I-"

"Get in," Melvin ordered.

Danas did not move from her seat, but stood still. How could she not, the man's voice frightened her.

""Are you waiting, I told you to get in the car?"
