Chapter 5 Growing closer or apart

Sweat flows from my face down my cheeks, and even though the air is impossible to go away, that time, I was losing my chance to get a taste of it. The wind has its freedom to sway, dance, and attract attention, but I couldn't breathe it in.

There's a 99.9 percent of probability that Damion is just making fun of me when he said those, trying to attract my attention or let me forget about the desire to kill or eat him.

Almost got drowned by Damion's dark and meaningful stare, Chandra gets in between. I thought she would appear as my savior like the last time. Yet, I was wrong.

"You must be lucky that I didn't shut you up, but Damion. If I were the one who did that, there's no sweetest refuge welcome for you anymore, Tracy," she says as if I would be threatened. I rolled my eyes in response and crossed my arms.

"Why are you so obsessed with protecting Damion? He doesn't care about you," I say with a smirk on my face. A simple line could break Chandra's heart in a split second of time.

"Accusing is your new game?"

I laughed.

"What's the point of accusing when I could hear his thoughts?"

That put away the smile on her face and gulped, a sign of losing from an argument.

Chandra whispered in Damion's ears and I didn't hear a thing. After they settled, Damion went inside, and Chandra pulled my hand to the hut as well. I struggled to escape. But wait, why do I have to escape in the first place? With that thought, I stopped the attempt to go.

Chandra brought me inside her room. This is truly magical. There are a lot of potions and magic bottles in here. I'm so amazed at how narrow it looked outside, and now has an extensive space than it actually looked. I can't help opening my mouth in amazed.

"Why did you bring me here?" I started the conversation.

"I know that you lied earlier. Stop lying from now on."

Because of Chandra, laughing is now part of my system every time she talks. Every word she says served as a comedic line for me. Until she speaks again.

"...when he was five years old, he started to notice his identity. He was confused and couldn't understand why some of his actions are out of control and some of his thoughts are starting to have a life of their own. That's when I realize that he isn't the one who's controlling the body, but the intruder."

My eyebrows furrowed, stuck with endless questions again.

"You brought me here just to clear his name?"

"I brought you here to convince you to go away. I'll be honest. There's no concrete plan left in my head as I did everything to open the portal. I tried to ask for divine help, to maximize the ability I have learned. But it's impossible to do overnight. And I was left with no choice but to let you stay here for a couple of days, instead of one night. However, only two days had passed, and you're already causing too much stress for Damion."

She moved closer, near to my face, and speak again, "Now, go and find yourself a savior to get you out of here."

Furrowing my eyebrows, I responded, "Why do you care so much about Damion?"

Chandra turned her eyes away. She gulped. I'm sure, there's no right word that could fit into her mouth right now.

"He has something that I owned. And I needed him to track down the other. Lastly, I cared for him."

"It's funny that you only say the word 'care' in the last line. Guilty?"

Chandra didn't respond. She just glared at me, might be hoping I would gradually get scared. Hell, no, I wouldn't.

I don't understand Chandra. At first, she wanted to protect me from Damion. Now, she wants to protect Damion from me. What is her purpose?

"...and what is that thing he has that is yours?"

Just when she was about to answer, her door opened. It spat out Damion together with his cold stare. He came to me and pulled me out. Chandra pulled my other hand, stopping Damion to go. She was confused, and so am I! This world is too confusing.

"Where are you taking Tracy?" asked Chandra.

"I'm taking Tracy with me. You asked her to find a savior, right? Now, she has one."

My eyes widened. There's not enough time to digest what he just said. All I feel is random, I don't even have the ability and time to identify it. Damion continued on going away. I was surprised that Chandra didn't give him another question after getting one answer.

Damion brought me out of the hut. He walked continuously, holding my hand tight, spitting no words. It's deafening.

Then we stopped at the lake.

Damion sat beside the lake, tasting the fresh air and satisfying sound of a lake.

"Did you hear everything?" I asked.

I thought he wouldn't answer, but he did.

"From the very start."

I don't know why. But somehow, I felt the ache in his heart. In this world, the one thing he has is Chandra. And because of me, he is forced to know the forbidden information from him. To Damion, Chandra is his world. But his world just collapsed.

"This is awkward, just to let you know," I say. Then now, he glared at me, furrowing his brows.

"Do you think I didn't feel the same way?"

"Then why do you have to take this risk of taking me and going away when you couldn't afford it?" I asked.

Damion took a deep breath, staring blankly at the lake with little bubbles on it caused by the fishes.

"Because of the linked."

My heart beats faster. I thought I was the only one who is concerned with that link. Don't tell me...

"...actually, what I've said a while ago is a half-truth."

Damn. The beat of my heart just went faster. Its speed changes in a short amount of time. I locked my gaze upon him, digesting what he just said. I felt the connection, even more, when he did the same. He looked at me, carrying the weight of the spark and the connection between us. I feel like we're much more than just two werewolves connected.

However, it didn't take that long, before I suddenly smell his blood. Nonsconsciously, I shifted into a werewolf and craving for his taste. The connection somehow slips, making the feeling more intense.

"Kill me if you want," he stated.

"I'll just have a taste."

"You can enjoy every bit of me."

"There's no way I would resist," I say, then I attacked him.

I was surprised.

The moment my teeth landed on his neck, which is his vital point, his heart glowed and I was electrocuted.

My eyes are blurry... my body feels numbed... my head is so heavy. Closing my eyes feels harder than now, then every other night that has passed. Damion took a peek at me. I was amazed... and exasperated. I just got outsmarted. He probably baited me to do this, using his precious blood.

But right before I closed my eyes, someone carried me in his arms.

It was Damion.
