Chapter 6 Wedding Gifts

After spending a few minutes in a daze, Platt finally snapped back to his senses. He was flustered. Seeing the fury in Zoey's eyes, he began explaining in a hurry. "Don't listen to his nonsense, Zoey. Why would I intentionally hurt Sloane?"

Platt had never felt this humiliated in his entire life, but in his defense, he didn't know that the red diamonds weren't natural. If he did, he wouldn't have commissioned the bracelet. He deeply regretted not getting Sloane's gift personally. He just handed one of his subordinates sixty thousand dollars and told him to buy Sloane something pretty.

"What?" With a sneer, Ryder said, "If you don't believe me, then look up red diamonds online. What you'll find is exactly what I just told you. Let's see if I really am talking nonsense."

"Shut up, Ryder!" Quickly backing up Platt, Rylee scolded Ryder, "Who do you think you are? How dare you accuse Platt of wanting to harm Sloane? Platt said that he asked his friend to buy the diamonds. If there's really something wrong with them, then it's not his fault. Unlike you, at least he made an effort to get Sloane a proper birthday gift. You're seeing your daughter for the first time in the past five years, and you've brought her a shabby stone pendant as a birthday present?"

Ryder knew that it was pointless to explain himself. After all, in Rylee's eyes, he would never measure up to the heir of the Quinn family. As far as Rylee was concerned, he was just a pile of garbage compared to Platt.

Rylee had no idea that in terms of status, it was the other way around between Ryder and Platt.

"Enough!"

Zoey, who had been silent the entire time, finally spoke up. Her body trembled slightly. She took a deep breath, trying her best to restrain her anger. She looked at Platt and said, "I'm sorry my husband threw away your gift. If it's been damaged in any way, I'm willing to pay its full price of $600, 000."

"What?" Platt was stunned. He shook his head and replied, "I made a huge mistake. Now that the bracelet really is radioactive, then Sloane shouldn't have it. I'll get her another and better gift another day."

"No need," Zoey snapped.

Hearing her refusal, Platt didn't say anything more. Zoey was obviously angry, so she was now hostile toward him. If he continued to push her at this time, his chances of getting together with her would become even slimmer.

At this time, a black Rolls-Royce with a license plate of LBE 8888 slowly pulled over at the gates of the Swain family's residence. Behind it followed a new white Maserati without a license plate. The Maserati's interior was all red. It was obviously a lady's car.

Two burly men got out of the Rolls-Royce, took out a big case from the luxury car's trunk, and walked into the yard of the Swain family's house.

After the housekeeper went out to take a look at the newcomers, she came back and informed Ruben, "Mr. Swain, we have guests outside. Looks like they're here to deliver something. They're carrying a big case. The license plate of the Rolls-Royce is LBE 8888."

At first, the crowd didn't care much that there were people delivering gifts to them, but when they heard the car's license plate was LBE 8888, they all exchanged astonished glances.

Ruben shot up from his seat and asked in a hurry, "Are you sure you didn't make a mistake in its plate?"

"Yes, sir. I saw it myself," the housekeeper replied firmly.

"Everyone, let's all go out and welcome our special guest." Ruben made up his mind and hurriedly ran to the yard.

The owner of the car with the license plate LBE 8888 was Trent Sanchez, the richest man in Linbourne. How could Ruben not almost lose his mind?

Ruben led everyone out the door and into the yard. Outside, he found a middle-aged man in a suit.

"Hello!"

Ruben trotted to his surprise visitor and shook hands with him.

When Platt saw the middle-aged man, he was shocked. It was Terrance Delgado, Trent's butler. Although Terrance was only a butler, even Platt's father had to show him great respect.

"Mr. Delgado, what brings you here?" Platt acted as if he and Terrance were close. He walked to Terrance and extended his hand.

Terrance frowned and asked, "Who are you?"

Platt promptly said, "I'm the son of Shipley Quinn, sir. Last week, I..."

"That's quite enough. I'm not interested."

Before Platt could finish his sentence, Terrance interrupted him and waved him away, which scared Platt almost to the point of peeing himself.

The Quinn family was a little famous in Linbourne. But it was nothing compared to the Sanchez family.

Just now, Platt wanted to show off in front of everyone. He didn't expect that he would be brushed aside like that.

Ruben, who wanted to ask his own questions, had decided to keep his mouth shut.

Terrance took out a list of wedding gifts and read it out loud.

"Ten shops at the Bright Square. Ninety-nine percent shares of Gold Hotel. A Maserati and a villa at Sunny Garden. And $1, 005, 000 in cash. All these are wedding gifts."

It wasn't until he finished his sentence that everyone understood the meaning of the gifts.

Looking at the stacks of cash, the car keys, the stock certificates, the property ownership certificates, and the other valuable gifts piled up inside the case, everyone was completely dumbfounded. Even after Terrance left, they were all still in shock.

"Ruben, you have the luckiest daughter!" Finally, someone broke the silence.

"Trent is indeed the richest man in Linbourne. He is so generous. Paislee will have a good, carefree future."

"Paislee, don't forget us when you get married!"

All of a sudden, everyone gathered around Paislee and praised her.

Her elder sister was the most beautiful woman in Linbourne. How could Paislee be mediocre?

Paislee didn't come out of her reverie until she heard everyone flattering her. Then, she realized that her sister was already married, so these wedding gifts were naturally for her. But she couldn't figure out when she had gotten acquainted with anyone from the Sanchez family.

Standing next to Zoey, Ryder saw the jealousy-tinged amazement in her eyes, which filled his heart with bitterness. The gifts were all for her. Why should she feel envious?

But no one would believe it if he said it.

"See? When you and Zoey got married, we didn't receive anything from you, your family, or your friends. We even had to give you $500, 000. A man like you can't make her happy. Believe me, if you divorce her, you'll be doing her a big favor." Paislee walked up to Ryder, holding the keys of the Maserati in one hand and the property certificate of the villa in the other. Her face was full of self-satisfaction.

Giving her a side glance, Ryder said in a sarcastic tone, "Are you sure that these things are for you?"

Hearing this, Paislee felt a little disconcerted. After all, she had never been in touch with any man from the Sanchez family, but she quickly dispelled her doubts. She got embarrassed and then angry fast. Frowning at Ryder, she huffed, "What's that supposed to mean? Of course they are for me. I'm the only unmarried woman in this family. Therefore, I'm the only one who can accept these gifts."
