Chapter 4 Four

Chapter 04

Scarlett's viewpoint

After attempting to lift the files on my own for a full ten minutes. When I finally had a basic notion, I divided them and started moving them from his office to mine, then back again, until I was finished.

Sadly, I sighed as I looked at the files that had taken up the entire desk and some of the ones that were still on the floor.

I whispered my little comfort word, "I'll get through this.

I had worked on those files for a solid seven hours, so how long will it take me to complete those files three times over?

I should get started right now.

**

Well, as you probably already guessed, I had to wait until dusk to finish them. I was still in the office at ten o'clock.

Lillian bid me good night and then went. I was the only person left, as everyone else had gone home.

Tonia had repeatedly beeped me while I was pleading with her, complaining that she couldn't care for the twins on her alone.

I should complete them before I go, according to Alexander. Yes, I received a call from him two hours ago. Then, he still wasn't gone. I'm not sure whether he's still around, but he threatened to fire me if I left without finishing them.

Maybe I should have reasoned with him or maybe I shouldn't have interrupted him earlier; he was undoubtedly irritated and gave me all of this work as a result.

For Christ's sake, I know he despises me, but this is excessive, and my entire body feels numb. The weight of carrying and organizing paperwork has physically made my hands tremble. At home, my children are waiting for me.

I had to use a lot of willpower to contain my emotions. He has a knack for breaking me. Only a day has passed; I doubt I will be able to stay. However, I really do need this job. I don't seem to be wanted by any other companies, and I get paid well.

But they're too much for me to take at this point. I didn't bother checking when my phone beeped again because I knew it was Tonia.

I refused to pick up as it rang nonstop. Sorry Tonia, I'm unable to.

Gosh! The files, even the ones I had organized, fell to the ground as I yelled and threw them around furiously.

Definitely not! As I picked them up, I continued to chant, "No!" I swept my hair back in embarrassment. What did I do? I damaged them in a matter of seconds after at least an hour of labor.

God, I thought I was going to cry right now. Once more, my phone rang, and I compelled myself to answer it.

"Tonia, I'm really sorry. I'm sorry, but I have like..."

"You may depart!" I was cut off by a cold, familiar voice.

"Tonia? " There is no way that this is Tonia. It was a private number, according to the display of my phone.

"Alex?" When the call ended, I realized that I had spoken those words into the speaker.

What, Alexander was that? Has he heard me? He did hear me yell, did he? He didn't, did he not? I believed he left. Where did he acquire my phone number?

It's obvious from my application form what a moron I am. I've had enough! I should leave right away since Tonia will be furious with me.

Before realizing I hadn't packed my things, I quickly left the office.

I hurried out of the office after grabbing my bag and the disposable plastic containers that contained my lunch, putting them into the disposable nylon I had packed.

I won't lie; it was very dark and I was holy. The lights came on as I walked down the corridor, but it was still unsettling because I was alone myself.

As the elevator descended, I hurried inside and impatiently tapped my foot on the floor. I quickly left it, made my way out of the building, and walked over to the bus station.

I have to use a bus because I don't have enough transportation fare with me.

The bus didn't arrive for 10 minutes, so I ran onto it. I nearly hit an elderly woman who sent me a terrible look, so I had to apologize right away.

We both appear awful, so why was she acting that way?

I was left off at the bus stop twenty minutes later. I made it home after a five-minute walk.

The moment I stepped into my mobile home, the lights turned on hastily.

I felt horrible as soon as I saw Tonia dozing off on the couch with the twins curled up on her chest.

She is a member of the elite, thus the fact that she endures this for me constantly touches me. I feel awful right now since I love her so much.

I yelled "Babe" as I noticed her making some motions. She slowly and drowsily opened her eyes and turned.

She responded gently, "Hey, you're back," and I nodded.

I quickly offered my apology as I helped her carefully take the twins from her body; they were still asleep when I placed them on either side of my shoulder.

When she said, "Bring Riley," I handed her my young daughter. She remarked, "Let's take them inside," and I consented. She took the lead, and I followed.

Are you going to explain, then? Tonia asked while glaring angrily. I apologized, saying that Alexander had put me through hell. She then grabbed my hand and dragged me into the living room.

She said, "Tell me," as we both sat down on the couch.

She responded, "Wow, he really means you than I thought," and I nodded in agreement.

Yes, I anticipated it, but not by much. I feel like I'm going to pass out any second since I'm so exhausted right now. I said, "I haven't eaten all day," and she raised an eyebrow in shock.

"All day long? Girl!!" She chastised.

I said, "I'm sorry, I just couldn't take breaks in between."

"So, did the twins?" you ask.

She responded, "Yeah, I bought them food," and I sighed in relief.

Saying "Thank you so much"
