Chapter 4 Resolutions

Chapter Four:

Kathy's POV:

I watched from the back how captivated Elise was by the show. It warmed my heart to know that they loved it so much.

I didn't know what to make of my work. You know, while growing up, I'd seen her watch movies and wish that her mom was a banker, a doctor, or a nurse.

Maybe I just didn't want to break the poor kid's heart or ambitions or I decided to be silent.

It was hard for them to tell her that I worked at a museum for arts. With time, I noticed she fell in love with art and would go on have have her room furnished with paintings.

"I wish I could become great too someday," She'd say to me while admiring a painting.

"Look at the attention to detail in this. No way I can ever be this good." She'd say with a bow of the head.

"You have the potential to become great, I mean, look at your work! Do not let anyone ever tell you otherwise. Who knows, you're better than most of the greats while they were your age." I would say, trying to encourage her.

"Well, most of the greats are not as terrible as I am, and they came from a lineage of artistry. But look at me mom, no lineage whatsoever."

"And where did you hear that from? That greatness is passed on in lineage?" I scoffed and laughed.

"That is a terrible way to think especially if you want to be a very good artist. You must take out such blocks from your head, shut it out."

I thought it best to leave the surprise until today, I mean what better day to tell your daughter that you work at a museum and show her a live presentation of Leonardo da Vinci's iconic works?

The fulfillment I got from seeing her happy was all I needed.

I must have been a bit biased with the presentations and the closing speech as most of the words I spoke were intended for her.

"So, tell me, girls, what did you think of the show?" I asked them when the showroom was empty.

"Was it that bad?" I continued after they were silent.

"No!" Keira said curtly.

"We are just eh... looking for the right words to describe it. It felt surreal, almost unbelievable. It was beautiful, to say the least." Elise finally admitted.

"You do not have to find the right words your faces say it all and..." I was saying before Elise engulfed me in a tight embrace.

"I love you, Mom. And thank you for this, it means the world to me that you let me experience it. It's better than all the awards I got at school." Elise continued.

"Oh, come off it. I love you too, and it's what mothers are meant for, making their daughters feel the world."

"Now, go on to the car. I'll catch up soon after I say goodbye to Lukas." I said handing them the car keys.

"They look so happy," Lukas noted as he stepped out to join me.

"Yes, and I am glad it did," I admitted.

"You mind if I ask why? I mean, why do your daughter or her cousin have no idea you work here or that I am your assistant? I always thought I was a special assistant to you?" Lukas asks.

"You are one heck of an assistant Lukas and I want to thank you for helping me set this up. Thank you but I won't be answering the question." I answered with a smile.

"Well, any good news about college yet? Didn't she apply for a scholarship too?" Lukas inquired.

Elise had earlier applied for a scholarship to college and so far, we've heard nothing from the board yet.

"Nothing yet and Elise has lost all hope. We're beginning to look at other alternatives. She likes to pretend to me that she's happy, but I'm her mother, I know." I said calmly.

"She'll be fine," Lukas assured.

"I hope so. I guess this is a good night then. I'll text you." I said, turning to leave.

"I will call you" Lukas replied.

Racheal's POV:

"Miss Racheal at your service, thank you," I finished dropping the telephone.

I worked as a customer care personnel for a delivery company and God, were humans the worst to have to deal with.

I mean, how would one call the line to ask me how to use a product he or she just bought like I'm a manual?

"Next time, please, do not buy a product you can not use." I'd say.

"Please, we are a delivery company and you didn't buy the product from us." I'd say to another.

My boss had threatened to fire me several times but we all know that I am too good at this to be left out.

It's one of the reasons I'm stuck here because I love my voice and want to put it to good use. Besides, I loved to use the telephone.

My thoughts ran back to the conversation I had earlier with my boyfriend, Jon. How could he be thinking of not making it to the party?

I imagine the faces of the other girls or what they'd say if I didn't turn up with Jon.

"Another beautiful girl probably snatched him off as she did."

"He must have found out he was too good for her."

"I have always maintained that Racheal was not meant for Jonas."

"How did he even like her in the first place? She must have instigated the relationship."

These thoughts and many more bothered me and I decided that today of all days would not be the day Jonas got to embarrass me.

"Hey Berry," I said over the phone. My best friend was the one to call to help me with my plan.

"Hi there, Racheal. What can I possibly do for the Queen today?" She asked.

"I need your help, and quickly too," I replied.

"Why? Is there a problem?" She inquired.

"Yes, Jonas is likely not going to show up at the party tonight," I said in whispers.

I mean, they say the walls got ears and I couldn't risk that.

"Oh, oh, that's too bad. Do you have any plan in mind?" She asked.

"Of course, I do. I always do, that's why I called you."

"I'm all ears, fill me in."

"I need you to find me a boyfriend. Someone tall and good-looking just for the party," I whispered.
