Chapter 3 The Reunion

Susan turned the corner after entering the terminal where Lane was supposed to be meeting her, and ran into someone knocking her flat on the floor. "Oh my gosh! I am so sor..." Susan started as she looked up at her latest victim of her hurried clumsiness. She found herself looking into the amazing blue eyes of the one person she ever let herself fall in love with.

"Still always in a hurry, I see." Lane stated as he reached out to help her up. He laughed as she refused his hand and gathered herself off of the floor. He was staring, she was still the beautiful clumsy girl that had left his heart broken.

"Hello?" Susan waved her hand in his face bringing him back to reality.

"Sorry, are you ready to go?" Lane said embarrassed for getting caught staring at her.

"Do you have all your luggage?" She asked.

"Yes, I only brought the one bag. Let's go, there are way too many people here for my liking." Lane started walking towards the doors to the drop off area.

"Uh, I parked in the garage." Susan said, pointing in the opposite direction.

It was Susan's turn to stare, Lane seemed to be confident but out of sorts at the same time. But who could blame him? He was here because his kid-sister is in the morgue. However, Susan couldn't help but notice that he looked more distinguished, and mature. His muscles could be seen through his shirt, rippling as he moved. Her heart skipped a beat as his blue eyes caught hers and she couldn't look away. It was like looking into the waters of a clear lake and she could see all the way to the bottom.

Lane cleared his throat and she snapped out of the trance he put her in. "Lead the way." he stated, sweeping his arm in the direction she had pointed.

"Where do you want to go first?" Susan asked as they approached her beat up silver Toyota. Lane reached her door before she could and opened it for her. She paused and looked up at his solemn expression. She felt guilty and awkward at the same time. She wasn't sure if he was being nice out of habit or if he was trying to show off his manners for her sake.

"The morgue I guess, the detective wasn't clear on the phone. I want to know what happened to my sister." Lane just wanted to get this over with and take his sister home. Being this close to Susan after the three years of nothing was starting to get to him and he wasn't sure how to deal with it and Chrystal's death all at the same time.

The ride to the hospital morgue was long, quiet and awkward. Lane thought about asking her about when she left him, but decided it wasn't the right time, so he stayed quiet.
