Chapter 2 Anniversary

Andrew Pov:

I knocked on the door of almighty Laurel Smith! When I heard enter in a cold voice, I entered.

"Mam, we received an invitation this morning from Mr. And Mrs. Brown. They have invited you to join their 25th Anniversary Celebration Party!" I informed in a very professional tone.

Her cold grey eyes which were till reading a file were now focused on me! Well, it's been 4 years working for her but still it makes me uncomfortable and sometimes... fear!

"The ones we sealed textile deal with?" She asked in her usual cold voice, very minutely raising her eyebrow. Why everything about her is cold!? Can't she spare her smart and efficient secretary from her coldness!

"Yes mam!" I quickly responded without wasting any time!

"When?" She enquired coldly.

"This Friday mam!" I dutifully informed.

She nodded, "Give them conformation that I will be there!"

"Okay mam." I responded.

"And there's one more thing, you have to take a date with you." I hesitantly informed her.

And... her eyes became more colder!

"Is it? Fine then, you would also be coming with me!" She said. I almost lost my balance! What!? I had gone with her on so many formal occasions and it's not a problem but that day... all my colleagues are planning to go to club and enjoy and I want to go with them too!!

I looked at her, and now she had shifted her focus back to business file! I sighed in my mind! It's not like I have a choice!

I left her office and went back to mine!

After replying to some emails, organizing all the files, and so on, I am finally at rest! I relaxed at my chair, and thought about my recent transfer from London to New York! When I joined my work 4 years ago I was very inexperienced and unprofessional, but in these years I learned so much and became efficient!

Well, it's not like I had a choice back then! My very strictly cold boss would've fired me, but luckily I managed well! And about shifting to New York, I wanted a change! So I thought it would be great to move to New York with my boss, and besides I have learnt so much from her, from dealing with clients to managing different things at a time and what not!

And I plan to learn more from her, so not to leave this precious opportunity I came here!

Suddenly intercom buzzed, "Mr. Wright, arrange a meeting with Peirce and Co. to discuss about finalizing the airlines deal, also bring that file to my cabin, now!"

"Okay mam!" I responded.

Well, enough of relaxation I think, it's time to go back to work!

Maria Pov:

I was sorting business files into most important, important and least important ones! This is something I learned in my almost 4 years of working experience under employ of my Mysterious Boss Adrien Williams, that it is the best way to organize them!

Then I settled at my desk and checked for any new mails.

Oh, there's one invitation! I opened it as I can't send it to

Mr. Williams right away! And that's because I am strictly ordered for the past years under the almighty's employ that only very important mails related to business work from business clients should be passed to him!

So here I am, reading the mail! It's an invitation from Mr. And Mrs. Brown for the celebration party of their 25th Anniversary!

Hm, as long as I remember these are the ones who promised to seal textile deal with us, but actually sealed the deal with Zeal Group of Industries!

It was very unprofessional!! Not only deal but Ms. Laurel Smith, The Owner and Chief Executive Officer of Zeal, took away the title of Richest Billonare on planet from The Unbeatable Adrien Williams!! Incredible!

My intercom buzzed, bringing me out from my string of thoughts!

"Ms. Miller, I want the finance reports of all the owned FMCG companies in 10 minutes!"

Time to get back to work!

Devil of the Business world gave me a task to complete!

In next 5 minutes I informed the finance department about the reports and went to collect them. I returned running in next 3 minutes, still 2 mins left!

I sighed! This is the reason I wear flats or flat low heels on work!!

I knocked on the door after steadying my breath!

"Enter" A cold response came from inside! Ofcourse, why waste energy on 2 words when it could perfectly be done with 1!

"Sir, this is the file you asked for." I handed him the file and retreated to my previous position.

"Also, sir, we've received an invitation from Mr. And Mrs. Brown for the Celebration Party of their 25th Anniversary." I informed.

His face became darker!

"The ones who backed away from signing the deal at the last moment ?" He asked in a chilly voice!

"Yes sir!" I hesitantly responded!

I waited and waited for his response. Well, I know he would reject this invitation as he never entertain people who don't benefit him in return!!

"I'll be there!" I heard a very cold voice! What!? But why!? I looked at him trying to get the answer of why, but... reading a coded document written with invisible ink would have been much more easier!

"Okay sir. Also, you have to take a date with you." I quickly retreated my mind from that path and informed him!

His black brows scrunched minutely, "Is it? Fine then, clear your shedule also along with mine for that evening!" He responded with his usual cold voice!

"Okay sir!" I nodded obediently and left his office!

After all, I don't have anything to do on this Friday evening.

But, I wonder why this sudden change in policy of not entertaining those who don't benefit in return? What is cooking inside that devious brain of his!?

Friday:

Andrew Pov:

Days flew very quickly, and it's finally time for my colleagues to go to club and me....to some stupid occasion which don't have anything to do with me, and that too with The She-Devil of the Business World!

"Mr. Wright, I will pick you up at 7 sharp!" The aforementioned She-Devil informed coldly, and went towards the private elevator!

I quickly followed as I am also heading Ground floor only!

She raised her eyebrows indicating that what I am doing!? Ofcourse, why to waste words when message could conveniently be passed with mere use of expressions! Or rather minute expressions!!

"I am also heading down." I said casually!

"Who said I am heading down, Mr. Wright?" She said looking at the button plate of elevator!

I looked at it and frowned, why would she head towards the upper floor, which is completely empty!?

"But why would you head towards the rooftop mam?" I asked getting confused!

"That's none of your business." I was replied with a very coldly rude response!

I was going to respond but she beat me to it!

"Now, out of elevator, Mr. Wright." She said in a calm frosty voice! She don't even raise her voice a little but still she makes everyone

want to hide in a far place far far away from her!

I stepped out hastily! And the elevator door closed! I have to wait for this elevator only! The other one for general use have some mechanical issues and is in repairing process!

I tapped the button to bring the elevator down! In less than 2 minutes it came and I stepped inside, and tapped G!

At Celebration Party:

The Event Hall was full of business personalities! Everyone were chatting when Mrs. Brown, who was keeping an eye on the entrance, saw one of the two most awaited guests of the evening, enter.

She quickly took her husband by arm and stepped forward to welcome none another than The Laurel Smith!

Andrew:

We just entered the crowded hall and I saw a very happy Mrs. Brown coming towards us with her husband.

"We are so delighted that you accepted our invitation, dear! Welcome!" An over enthusiastic Mrs. Brown spoke.

"Yeah, My wife and I are grateful to you for the deal and also for sparing time from your busy schedule to attend our celebration party!" Mr. Brown said with a smile.

"I am glad I could help!" My employer said, as usual without any emotions! And about help? So yes, the deal definitely helped in quadrupling the company's profit!

"We warmly welcome you too Mr. Wright!" Mr. Brown said with the same smile reserved for professional purposes.

"Yes, we do." Mrs. Brown said with a warm smile directed towards me. Well, the least I hope is not to get bored! Which I might add is impossible!

"There are many people waiting to meet you, Ms. Smith! Let me introduce them to you." Mr. Brown said and lead us towards a group of people.

Maria:

We reached the venue and entered! Mr. and Mrs. Brown saw us and quickly came to greet us! By seeing their movements, it feels like we are one of the most awaited guests here!

"I am glad you accepted our humble invitation, Mr. Williams!" Mr. Brown said with a professional smile.

"Yes, we are delighted that you spared some time from your busy shedule for this very occasion!" Mrs. Brown said with a warm smile. "We warmly welcome you both!"

"I wish I could share your delight aas well!" My boss spoke in his cold voice!

The smile on their faces faltered!

"There are many people waiting to be introduced to you, Mr. Williams, let me do the honor." Mr. Brown said, quickly regaining his professional smile again!

Andrew:

We were surrounded with people, a lot of people! And I could see the irritation growing in Ms. Smith! Ofcourse, she detest wasting her precious time on some unimportant people who can't benefit much to her!

Slowly, the crowd dispersed! And, finally I heaved a sigh of relief!

Little did I know, that happiness was very short lived!

"Ms. Smith and Mr. Williams, I would like to introduce you to each other!"

So...how was the first chapter?

Also, I would like to inform you that next chapter will be in our main characters pov and not their secretaries ^^'

I thought it would be more appropriate to introduce the main characters from their secretaries point of view before we finally get to know the real characters! :)
