Chapter 6 The Alpha Of Nite Pack

Anne's POV:

Three years later.

"Anne!"

An excited female voice suddenly came from behind. I turned around and saw my friend, Eve Lopez, running towards me. I hugged her with a smile. She was a girl I met during my exile.

Eve hugged me back before leaning away and then cupping my face. Her forehead crinkled as she said, "Oh, dearie. You have lost so much weight in only a few days. Why?"

As if she already knew my answer, Eve waved her hand and took out an invitation card. "Guess what I have got here?" She waved the card before uttering excitedly, "This is an invitation to the coronation ceremony for the new Alpha of Nite Pack. I heard that the next Luna would also be announced at the ceremony. It's going to be grand."

Just as I was about to say something to meet Eve's excitement halfway, my eyes fell on the photo on the invitation. My heart twitched. I drew a shaky breath and asked, "Can I have a look at that, please?"

Eve willingly handed the card to me. My eyes widened as I examined the photo carefully. No freaking way! Oren was the one in the picture!

The gold lettering read, "You are invited to the coronation ceremony of Nite Pack's new Alpha, Oren Beckett."

Bloody hell! Oren-the father of my child and my boyfriend from three years ago-was now the Alpha of the Nite Pack!

My hands shook. I wanted to scream out loud. However, I breathed through my mouth to stay calm. Handing the invitation card back to Eve, I said with a smile, "It looks grand."

A thousand complicated feelings swirled in my heart. While I was happy that Oren was alive, I couldn't understand why he broke his promise. I hated him for abandoning me and leaving me to face the consequences of our lovemaking alone.

Henry was over two years old now. Who was Henry, you asked? Well, he was my son-the product of that night of passion. As I was saying, my two-year-old son already had it tough. His peers teased him because he had no father.

For Henry's sake, I had gone to many places in search of Oren. All my efforts proved abortive. I didn't even get a good clue. All that changed a minute ago. My Oren was now the Alpha of the Nite Pack.

I needed to get answers and also give my son the father he deserved.

On the day of the ceremony, I took Henry to the venue.

"Mommy, can I really see daddy today?" Henry was a little excited and skeptical.

I lowered my head and looked at him. "Yeah. You trust Mommy, don't you? You will meet your daddy today."

Henry's smile got brighter when he heard this. My heart melted at the sight of it.

On the way, many werewolves were coming and going with their own invitation cards and gifts. I carried Henry in my arms, walked toward the guards at the gate, and said, "Hello, I'm here to see your Alpha. Please tell him I came with his child. It's urgent."

The guard immediately frowned. He stared at me from head to toe before looking at Henry in confusion. "You have got to be kidding me! How is that even possible?"

"I'm very serious about this. I am also not lying. Please take me to your Alpha."

The guard tried to avoid my intense gaze. He scratched the back of his head with confusion written all over his face. He then looked at the others, asking for their opinions with his eyes. After a while, he sighed and said, "Please wait a minute."

All of a sudden, a young and well-dressed she-wolf came out. Everyone present bowed to her respectfully.

When I heard someone whisper the name, Lilian, I realized that she was Lilian Cohan-the she-wolf that was about to become the new Luna.

I looked at her in silence, and soon she turned to me too. A glint of panic flashed through her eyes. Tilting my head unintentionally, I stared at her. I was sure that I didn't know her. Why did she seem afraid of me? Did she know me?

Lilian strode toward me. She masked her panic and asked the guard what had happened.

After the guard reported the truth, Lilian's eyes twitched a little. She then said politely, "Miss, I can take you to see Oren, but you will have to follow me to the garden first."

Lilian seemed like a nice and easygoing she-wolf, so I agreed readily. Perhaps she just wanted to take me through the garden to see Oren in private before the ceremony started.

I put Henry down and held his hand as Lilian led us to the garden.

To my greatest surprise, as soon as we stepped into the garden, Lilian's smile disappeared and she ordered the guards next to her, "Throw these two into the pond."

Like a bunch of puppets, the guards immediately moved to me and Henry. I looked at Lilian, only to see that she had a complacent sneer now. It dawned on me that she had no intention to help.

Damn it! How could I have believed that the next Luna of Nite Pack would help me get to her soon-to-be husband? Which she-wolf would love to know that she had a competition? I was so stupid and careless!

"Mommy!" Henry suddenly screamed in fear as one of the guards tried to snatch him away. I put him behind me and faced the guards fearlessly.

Life as an exiled she-wolf taught me a lot. I had experienced my difficulties, so I was no longer the weak teenager from three years ago. These guards were ants to me.

In a matter of minutes, all the guards were on the ground, wincing in pain. I massaged my fist and wiped the sweat on my forehead. As I walked towards Lilian with a cold face, her eyes widened in shock and fear. She balled her thin hands into fists.

"Hey, what are you doing? Don't come closer!" Lilian threw punches that couldn't hurt a fly as I was only inches away.

Unsurprisingly, she was much weaker than the guards. I dragged her by the hair and forced her head into the pond.

"Ah! Help! No..."

Lilian coughed and slapped the water. The beaten guards didn't dare to come to her rescue. They didn't want to suffer the same fate.

While I didn't want to hurt Lilian, I had to punish her for attempting to kill me and my son.

Suddenly, there was a burst of footsteps and mutters.

"The Alpha is coming!"

Finally! Thank goodness we were going to meet again. How would he react when he saw me? Would he be shocked? What explanation would he give for just ghosting me? Most importantly, how would he feel to learn that he had a son? Would he be overjoyed? And how would things turn out after that?

My pulse galloped at the thought of this.
