Chapter 5 Who Says We Are Strangers

I got up to take a shower. In the bathroom, I looked at myself in the mirror. I didn't sleep well last night, so I was not surprised that my face was as pale as a sheet.

But there was nothing I could do about it. And I was running out of time, so I randomly picked a dress from my closet, put on light makeup, and took a taxi to Lloyds Company.

I tried my best to arrive on time, but I was still late.

Much to my surprise, my boss didn't scold or threaten to fire me this time. Instead, she dragged me into the building of Lloyds Company.

As we walked, she reminded me, "Mr. Lloyds has always been harsh to others. But this time, he agreed to cooperate with us without putting forward any harsh additional conditions. I don't know why he seems nice to us. So for God's sake, you must say something good to him and make him sign the contract."

I was surprised to hear that Xavier had no harsh additional conditions. I didn't say anything, but I couldn't help sneering in my head.

Finally, we arrived at the door of the CEO's office. Paul, Xavier's assistant, was already waiting for us. As soon as he saw me, he said, "Mr. Lloyds is waiting for you inside."

I nodded and pushed the door open. My boss was about to follow me in, but Paul stopped her.

"Ma'am, I'm sorry. Mr. Lloyds only wants to see Eunice."

My boss blinked her small eyes, looking confused. But she knew she could do nothing about it, so she said to me, "I'll leave everything to you, Eunice. Please, do your best."

I didn't bother to answer her. I pushed the door open and entered the office.

Xavier sat at his desk with a cigarette between his fingers.

When he saw me, he raised his eyebrows and took a drag of his cigarette. Then he slowly exhaled a puff of white smoke from his mouth.

I blinked and looked at his handsome face through the smoke. I couldn't deny the fact that he was really good-looking. If he worked as a gigolo, not only women but even homosexuals would swarm to him.

He stubbed his cigarette out in the jade ashtray and stared at me for a while. Then he smiled faintly and said, "Good to see you again. Have you thought about my marriage proposal?"

I met his gaze, and I felt my face burning hot.

I now understood why he said confidently in this office last time that we would meet again. Our company needed this project very much. I bet he knew it, and he wanted to use the contract to blackmail me.

I felt he was very annoying.

Most people said he was always conservative and rigorous. But why did I feel different? Every time I was alone with him, I felt he was a playboy.

To avoid any trouble in the future, I had to make things clear to him.

"Mr. Lloyds, I don't care about why you want to marry me. But in my case, I can't marry a man I just met. Even if you are rich, I won't compromise. We don't even know each other-"

"Who says we don't know each other?" Xavier pushed his chair away, stood up, and approached me lazily. He was like an elegant lion walking toward his prey. "You're Eunice, twenty-five years old. You are now working in an advertising company, and you have been in a relationship once. You like to wear red, and your measurements are..."

Then his eyes fell on my chest. He added meaningfully, "There is a small heart-shaped red mole in the middle of your chest."

"You had me investigated? How dare you!"

I looked at him in disbelief, feeling enraged that he knew even such private information.

"No, honey, it's not like that." He bent down and got closer to me. And I could now smell the tobacco from him.

For the first time, I appreciated the smell of tobacco from a man. Why did it smell good on him?

It was slightly pungent but attractive.

"I just want to know you better, so I got some information about you," Xavier added unhurriedly. His voice was low and mellow, like that of a cello.

I suddenly clenched my fists tightly. My mind went blank for a moment. I must admit that he had the ability to bewitch people.

I gritted my teeth and stepped back to keep a distance from him. Then I said firmly, "I don't need you to do that. From now on, please stay away from me. Don't pester my life in the future."

"Do you hate me that much?"

He stared at me for a long time before he heaved a deep sigh. When I looked at him, I was surprised to find that he looked a little sad.

He looked like an abandoned puppy. And I felt sorry for him.

I pursed my lips and explained with difficulty, "Actually, I don't hate you. But if a stranger suddenly offers to marry you, you will also refuse, right? So-"

"Who says we are strangers?"

Xavier suddenly interrupted me again in a loud voice, still looking at me.

After saying this, he strode back to his seat, took out two contracts from the drawer, and handed them to me.

"One is an advertising contract, and the other is a prenuptial contract. Either sign both of them or don't sign anyone. I will give you two days to think about it."

After investigating me, he was now threatening me.

I regretted that I sympathized with him just now.

I glared at him angrily before I turned around, slammed the door, and left. I didn't even bother to say goodbye to him.

I walked forward angrily with my head down. When I arrived at the lobby on the first floor of the company, someone suddenly grabbed my hand.

"Eunice..." My boss looked at me expectantly. "Did you confirm the project with Mr. Lloyds? Did you convince him to sign the contract?"

"No," I replied coldly, withdrawing my hand. "Mr. Lloyds needs to think about it."

Her small eyes widened in shock. She mumbled worriedly, "How could that be? Did you piss him off? His assistant told me that he would sign the contract as long as you came."

I looked at her indifferently, waiting for her to finish her words. Then I said, "Tomorrow, I will submit my resignation. Don't bother me with this matter anymore."

I turned around and left. I didn't want to talk to her anymore.

And I didn't want to have anything to do with Xavier anymore. He was only pissing me off.

"Eunice, what are you talking about? You can't resign." My boss shouted behind me, threatening me. "If you can't sign this contract, I'll ask all the advertising companies not to hire you."

I stopped, knowing she would really do such a shameless thing.

I had no choice but to compromise. I told her I would go back and reconsider it.

Things didn't go well the entire day, and I felt so stressed. When Lia asked me to go to a bar in the evening, I agreed without hesitation.

It was a good time for me to release my pressure. And maybe I would have another one-night stand just like that night.

Lia and I had been sitting in our booth for a while when I suddenly felt the need to go to the restroom. I stood up and walked outside. But when I passed by another booth, I unexpectedly saw a familiar person.

Xavier was wearing a suit that was incompatible with the bar environment. He leaned against the sofa, drinking wine casually. I didn't know why, but the scene looked familiar. It seemed I had seen it somewhere.

I glanced at the sexy woman next to him, and my lips curled slightly.

This morning, he insisted on marrying me. But now, he was with another woman. He was such a playboy and a liar.

Anger surged in my heart. I gritted my teeth and decided to ignore him.

But at this moment, Xavier raised his head, and our eyes met. He smiled and waved at me.

I pretended I didn't see him and walked toward the restroom. But after only a few steps, I was hugged from behind. Regardless of my struggle, he dragged me to the private room and forced me to sit on the sofa.

I was furious and wanted to stand up. But Xavier held me in his arms and kissed me on the cheek. Then he lowered his eyes and looked at me. "Babe, are you still mad at me?"
