Chapter 4 Find A Boyfriend

Calix's face darkened at my words. And his eyes were blazing with fury.

But I didn't care. I ignored them, turned around, and left with my suitcase.

By the time I arrived at the apartment I rented, it was almost nine o'clock in the evening.

I had been through a lot these past few days, and I felt so tired that I didn't want to unload my suitcase. All I wanted was to find a place to lie down.

I threw myself on the sofa and closed my eyes. The soft-touch under my body made me feel relaxed.

I was about to doze off when I suddenly heard a knock on the door.

I got up, feeling a little annoyed.

Who would come at this time of night?

Besides, I just moved in. No one should know my new address yet.

I walked to the door and opened it carefully. When I saw the person outside, I frowned.

"Eunice, you bitch! How dare you cheat on me!"

Calix was reeking of alcohol. His eyes were red, staring at me fiercely.

When I saw him like this, I subconsciously clenched my fists and took a few steps back, wanting to close the door. "You are drunk. I don't want to talk to you."

His face darkened even more. He raised his hands and pushed the door hard.

"You bitch! How dare you pretend to be a virgin in front of me! It turned out you are a whore behind my back. Since you can be fucked by other men, why can't I?"

Such a blatant and vicious slander made me tremble with anger. I couldn't help but retort aloud, "That's enough! We both know who cheated first. What right do you have to scold me?"

I tried hard to close the door, but I was just a woman. How could my strength match his?

Calix was completely enraged. He grabbed my dress and pressed me to the floor.

My head hit the side cabinet. It hurt so much that I couldn't help crying out in pain. I felt dizzy and desperate.

I knew very well that if it went on like this, I was in grave danger.

So I had to soften my attitude and beg.

"Calix, let go of me. Let's talk about this, okay?"

But he was too angry to listen to me. He grabbed my hands and began tearing off my dress. While he kept asking me why I betrayed him, he looked like a devil coming out of hell to collect debts.

He looked so scary that I trembled in fear. I struggled hard while my tears fell uncontrollably.

Calix pulled off my dress and pressed my legs against my chest with both hands. When he saw my private part, his face became more ferocious in an instant. He suddenly released my legs and strangled my neck.

"You're a bitch! A shameless slut!"

I struggled hard to get rid of Calix's hands. But they were like cold and hard iron clamps. I couldn't break free at all.

I could only try my best to open my mouth wide to catch some air. But it was useless, so I felt more desperate. My vision began to blur due to a lack of oxygen.

When I felt like I was about to die, I looked up and found a vase not far away from me.

I didn't care about anything else anymore. I struggled to reach out for the vase.

As soon as I had it in my hand, I smashed it on Calix's head with all my strength.

There was a loud bang.

Calix's eyes widened in disbelief, and he fell to the floor, wailing.

The desperate suffocation finally disappeared. I lay with my back on the floor, gasping for air. But it was not the time to be happy. When I looked at Calix, he was lying on the floor with his eyes closed. His head bled. My heartbeat went abnormally fast.

My entire apartment was in dead silence.

I swallowed hard and cautiously reached out to feel his breathing.

Suddenly, a harsh ringtone rang.

I was so frightened that I immediately withdrew my hand and looked in the direction where the sound came from.

My phone on the sofa was ringing nonstop.

Not minding my trembling legs, I rushed over and grabbed my phone. It was as if it was a life-saving straw.

"Eunice, what are you doing? I've been calling you for a while. Why are you not answering your phone?"

It was Lia's voice. Now that my best friend was on the other end of the line, I choked with sobs and cried out loud, "Lia, come here quick! I'm in trouble."

Lia helped me rush Calix to the hospital.

Holding a cup of coffee in my hand, I was restless, waiting anxiously on a chair outside the ward.

Finally, the door was opened from the inside, and a strong smell of disinfectant penetrated my nostrils.

I raised my head and saw Lia walking towards me with a stack of documents. I supposed they were test results.

"How is it? Is Calix okay?" I asked at once.

"It's just a minor injury. He won't die." Lia handed me the test results. Her bright face was full of disgust. "That scumbag deserves to die. How dare he hit you! Eunice, such a person like him doesn't deserve your worry."

I breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, it wasn't serious.

"I know. Lia, thank you. I'm so lucky you're here."

Lia held me in her arms and led me out of the hospital. "You are my best friend, so you are always welcome. Everything is settled here, so I'll drive you home. You need a rest."

I nodded. "Okay."

I followed her to her car.

On our way back home, Lia seemed to remember something. "I almost forgot. How was your meeting today?"

I shook my head, not knowing how to answer her.

Lia was a woman of action. If she knew that my boss had fired me, she would go and argue with my boss. She had already helped me a lot. I didn't want to trouble her again.

When she noticed that I didn't want to talk about it, she didn't ask any more questions. Instead, she changed the subject. "Eunice, it's too dangerous for you to be alone. I think you'd better find a boyfriend as soon as possible, so someone can protect you. Otherwise, Calix will still make trouble for you after he gets discharged from the hospital."

I should find a boyfriend?

I lowered my head and stared at my fingers, lost in thought.

For some unknown reason, Xavier's handsome and emotionless face appeared in my mind when she said this.

Lia left after sending me home.

I lay in my bed, tossing and turning. I barely slept the whole night.

The next day, I was awakened by a phone call from my boss. I picked it up, still feeling sleepy. But when she told me to go to Lloyds Company, I suddenly sobered up.

"Why do you want me to go there?" I asked in confusion.

My boss said excitedly, "We won the bid!"

I was a little surprised. Yesterday, several powerful companies competed with each other for the project. And it was not an exaggeration to say that our company was the weakest. Although my plan was written with great care, I didn't expect we would actually get this project.

Then I remembered something.

I smiled and said, "Congratulations! But I won't go."

"What? Why?" I sensed the anxiety in my boss's voice.

"Have you forgotten? You fired me yesterday, right?" I asked.

"But Mr. Lloyds wants you to sign the contract. If you don't go, we won't get this project anymore."

My boss pleaded and convinced me for a long time, but I didn't change my mind.

Maybe she noticed that I was determined, so she said through clenched teeth, "Eunice, if you go, I will give you a thirty percent bonus after we get the project."

I thought about it. Her offer was tempting.

A thirty percent bonus was a lot of money. If I got it, I could have money to pay my rent.

After thinking it through, I nodded and said, "Okay, I'll go."

After I hung up the phone, my mood weighed down.

Unexpectedly, I would face that man again so soon.
