Chapter 5 A Devilish Husband

A tearing pain traveled from Ariana's neck to her back as Theodore's grip tightened. Desperation to breathe took over her when her life flashed before her eyes. She struggled with all her might and finally broke free from him with a muffled groan.

Holding her neck, Ariana took a few steps backward and gasped heavily as she stared at him in horror.

There was an unfazed look on Theodore's face. His gaze suddenly dropped to her belly, causing his expression to become cold. Nothing but cruelty gleamed in his dark eyes now.

"You had better pray that you don't conceive. Otherwise, I'll get rid of it in the most vicious way."

Ariana held her belly with her other hand. She averted her gaze fearfully. The pain in her throat caused her to cough hard. She could feel it in her bones that Theodore wanted to kill her.

Only now did she realize that Jasper was saying the truth about his half-brother. Theodore was so ruthless!

It was best to explain things to him now. However, Ariana didn't have the courage to do so.

She reasoned that this angry husband of hers wouldn't believe her even if she told him that she had broken up with Jasper and changed her mind about the plan.

Theodore continued to stare daggers at her. His patience soon ran out. "Get the hell out of here. And never show up in front of me again!"

Ariana took to her heels as soon as she heard this. Once she opened the door, she bumped into a man in a suit. He stared down at her with a warm smile on his handsome face.

Not wanting to stay there for another second, she averted her gaze, apologized, and then ran out.

Horace Silence walked into the room only to find Theodore staring in the direction of the door. Like the intelligent man that he was, Horace figured that the woman who ran out was his boss's new wife.

Although he was a little curious, he didn't dare to ask Theodore any questions. He just greeted him and dropped the examination report on the bedside table.

"The doctor said you are almost as fit as a fiddle. He said that you will make a full recovery after some remedial exercises." Horace scratched the back of his head and added hesitantly, "Now that the doctor lied that you are not doing well, I think your family members will take it as an opportunity to hurt you. How do you intend to handle that, sir?"

Theodore's lips curled up in a smirk as he looked up at his assistant. "There's no cause for alarm. It would be fun to watch all my prey fall into my trap."

Horace pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose and blurted out recklessly, "Is Ms. Edwards also one of your prey?"

"You are too inquisitive, Horace. Mind your damn business!" Theodore immediately scolded him.

Horace's muscles tensed up. He lowered his head remorsefully.

"Anyway, look into Ariana. I want to know everything about her!" Theodore ordered coldly.

Horace nodded. "Okay."

Ariana went to the housekeeper, Judy Kelly, and requested that another room be prepared for her.

Judy was a chubby and warm-hearted middle-aged woman. She took one of Ariana's hands in hers and said comfortingly, "I understand that you will have a hard time settling in as Mr. Theodore Anderson's wife. But I want you to be patient. He's just regained consciousness. Give him some time. Soon, he will grow fond of you."

Ariana didn't believe that Theodore would ever grow fond of her. She had only escaped death by a whisker today, so she made up her mind to stay away from him. She insisted on getting her own bedroom.

Once the room was prepared for her, Ariana was ready to rest. She lay on the bed, but she couldn't sleep a wink. She stared at the white ceiling and pondered about what the future held for her.

The initial plan was for her to become a widow to Theodore since it was said that he was on the brink of death.

It never crossed her mind that he would suddenly wake up and insist on divorcing her.

The thought of getting thrown out soon depressed Ariana greatly. To avert her attention, she decided to surf the Internet. But the first news she saw shocked her to the bone. It was a notice for the latest auction in Ivebridge. One of the items to be auctioned was a necklace that belonged to her late mother!
