Chapter 5 An impressive combo

Chase

A very persistent alarm clock woke me up from my beauty sleep and I grunted my disapproval. I needed some more sleep but the fucking alarm won't just shut the fuck up.

Instinctively I stretched an arm attempting to turn it off. After trying for some time and having no luck, I finally gave up, got up, and put it off myself.

Mum knew me so well that she made sure to put the alarm far away from me, conscious of the fact that as soon as my feet touch the ground, I'd be unable to go back to sleep.

That darn woman.

I went to the bathroom and freshened up. As I was styling my hair, mom popped her head into my room.

"Mom, can't you knock? What if I was naked" I whined.

"Good morning to you too sweety. How was your night" she said sarcastically with an eye roll.

"Oh so sorry mommy. Good morning, did you sleep well?" she pecked me on both cheeks before answering

"Yep, slept like a baby"

"Breakfast is ready, be quick with it so you won't be late on your first day of school" she stated.

Ah, I almost forgot about that.

I went downstairs and as usual, my dad wasn't there. He never was anyway.

I went to the dining room and spotted my seven-year-old brother, Derek sitting and waiting patiently for me before eating.

As soon as he set his eyes on me, he flew out of his seat running in my direction.

When he was close enough, he circled his tiny arms around me. I crouched down to his level, hugging him back.

I pecked his cheeks and he giggled making his dimples even more prominent.

He's so cute.

"How was your night buddy" I inquired

"Super big bro" he replied sweetly. With the go-ahead, he started narrating his dream while we ate.

We walked out and split once we were through with breakfast. He went to his driver and I entered my customized Bugatti Chiron.

I reached school at 8:04.

Crap, I'm late.

I entered and noticed the hallway was completely deserted. I would have used the school map but I left it at home.

'Great! now, how am I gonna get to class' I questioned myself.

Just when I thought all hope was lost, I saw someone; a girl to be precise heading my way.

She passed right beside me and didn't even notice me.

What the hell is she thinking about at this time of day?

I shrugged it off. She's my only hope.

"Hi," I said trying to be polite. When I noticed she didn't respond I repeated "hi". This time she stilled then whirled around to face me with an incredulous look.

"Can you please show me the 3-01 class?" I said again trying to be polite. She looked at me for a long time before dropping her gaze to her feet.

Her small voice rang out just when I thought my case was hopeless "come with me. That's where I'm heading anyway."

Her voice was wow! And she was cute. What an interesting combo.

We both walked to class and when I entered the students gasped and comments flew. I've already gotten used to it so it doesn't bother me in the least bit.

The teacher said I should introduce myself so I did just that and the girls cooed. I was told to take my seat and I discovered that there were only two unoccupied seats which were ones on each side of the girl who escorted me here, cutie since I don't know her name.

I found it strange but I shrugged it off. I sat at her right and noticed how nervous she was. I figured it was because everyone was staring at her...more like glaring at her.

Again I shrugged it off. Maybe they just don't like her. But why?

It's none of my business.

Class ended and as expected, my table was crowded with girls.

As soon as they went back to their seats, I placed my head on the table suddenly experiencing a mild headache. Cutie who also happened to be my seatmate turned to me as she raised a perfect eyebrow making her look even cuter.

Her gesture silently asked if I'm okay and I just shrugged indicating a 'yes'.

The class was over once again yet she remained seated until everyone left.

This girl is weird.

I followed her to the cafeteria and just as we entered, the attention was on us again. Comments flew but I ignored them. She on the other hand was extremely nervous.

She ordered a simple sandwich and a bottle of water whilst I went for fries with sauce, diced pear, and an apple juice.

She got her order before me so she hurriedly proceeded to the empty table at the far back.

I followed her lead, both of us settling our food on the table. I noticed she was quite surprised but didn't object.

She lowered her gaze to her food like it was the most interesting thing at the moment, completely ignoring me.

The silence was awkward so I decided to break it.

"Hi, I'm Chase."

"I know" she drawled probably wondering where I was going with this. Just before I could say something else, a voice interrupted rudely. "Evangeline, Mrs. Hernandez wants you in her office now," the skinny girl said through clenched teeth, her face in a deep scowl.

She got up without a word and left. Minutes later, she came back and said she was assigned to give me a tour of the school. I gave a slight nod before following beside her.

"So your is Evangeline huh," I said more of a statement than a question. She slid me a sideways glance before nodding her head in affirmation.

"Yep, but you can call me Angel for short"

"A perfect name" I mumbled under my breath.

"What was that," she abruptly stopped with furrowed brows and a slight frown.

"Oh, nothing," I said rather quickly. She shrugged and then we continued our tour.

By the time lunch break was over, I knew my way around the school.

Angel informed me that she needed to use the washroom so I made my way to class.

Ignoring the flirtatious glances from the ladies and the murderous glares from the guys I took my seat.

Since no teacher was in class yet, I pulled my book out and began to work on an assignment.

I quickly looked up when someone settled on my table.

"What the heck is your problem dude?" I gritted out.

He leaned closer and whispered the words "you're messing with the wrong girl."

I was confused.

First of all, who the hell was he talking about?

Secondly, how does it concern him? I doubt he's just looking out for me.

Seeing my confused expression, he clarified "I mean Evangeline."

Oh, so that's what he meant by that.

"And why do you care" I snapped.

Totally dismissing my question, he continued "she's dangerous."

I mean what the hell is wrong with this guy?
