Chapter 5 In Harm's Way

As Ross pulls the trigger, I feel my head ache with the sudden noise, and I let out a scream. There are more gunshots but it's not from Ross. By now, the hall is scrambled with people running around to get cover and some men have pulled out their guns. I'm staring around wondering what's going on right now. Ross has a murderous look on his face as he keeps clutching my waist and moving me away from the bloody scene. It's a blood bath in here.

Many have fallen from the gunshots and then I spot a man pointing a gun toward me but Ross is quick to get a bullet between his brain making me squeak in panic.

He takes my hand and we run up the stairs before I remember Bellow is down there. And my dad! Where's Charlotte?!

"Wait!" I scream trying to run down again but Ross grips my hand.

"What the fuck are you doing?"

"Bellow! My dad... Charlotte" I'm stammering and shaking. My God! Bellow, if something happens to her because of this stupid party that was for me.

"Let's get out of here now, Blair!"

"I can't leave them!" I scream at him.

He aims his gun behind me, gunning someone down, I feel blood splash on my bare back, causing me to squeak in disgust.

"What are you, stupid? You have a death wish?!" He screams at me before hurling me up on his shoulder when I try to protest. He runs away from the horrific scene while I'm hitting him hard to let me go, meanwhile I'm sobbing at the intensity of the evening.

"Stay here! And I fucking mean it!" Ross yells in my face and I nod, folding my arms, unsure if what to do. I don't have much strength in me to fight or argue because I'm too shook up.

"Where are you going? Don't leave me" I plead.

"I'm going to find your family so stay put, Blair," He tells me and I break down in sob. How could this happen at the one night I thought I could have fun. My mind keeps wandering to Bellow and if she's ok. She looked so happy as she danced with that man but I can only see her pink hair disappearing under a table while I was being pulled away by Ross now.

Ross cups my cheek forcing me to stare at him. "They'll be fine. Just don't leave your room ok?"

I nod again and he walks away from me to the door. "Lock up behind me and don't let anyone in. Understood?!"

"Yes" I manage to say, and he was gone like a flashlight.

I walk to my bed, kneeling on the floor by it, gripping my arms as tears roll down my cheek. I'm sad and there's blood on me and my dress but I don't have it in me to try and take a shower or change. I sit in silence for what seems like hours before I hear a harsh knock on the door and I cover my mouth in fear that I may squeak and give myself away.

The bang becomes louder and I keep moving back on my butt and hands, staring at the door and hoping it doesn't break down with all the massive hit. God, Ross where are you when I need you? My savior!

The hit becomes louder and I pick up one of my shoes ready to puncture someone in the head, straight to their fucking brain with the heels.

There's a loud bang. A gunshot and I wait to hear what happens next when I see red liquid flowing into the room from below the door and I scream with fright!

"Blair!" I hear Ross on the other end of the door. I get up quickly and run going to unlock the door. Ross's face comes into view, his face bloody but not from his own. Even his white shirt is soaked red. I cling unto him tight not letting go.

"Thank God you're here" I sob into his shirt not minding whether I'll get dirty.

"Come with me. Your dad and Charlotte are safe and in the library" he tugs my hand but I halt.

"What about Bellow?"

He stares at me in silence and fear trickles its way into my heart. Is she?...no way!

"I don't know, Blair. I didn't see her. Maybe she's safe. Come with me now" he grabs me against my will, pulling me to my dad's library while also being cautious. We pull in soon after and I see my dad standing by the window, I run into his arms.

"Dad!" I cry. "Where is Bellow?"

"Hunt is searching for her" He assures me and I lower my head crying.

"What's going on?"

"I don't know sweetheart. But some men were spotted outside the manor earlier today, surveilling the place one of the guards said." Dad frowns.

My mind wanders far before I gasp. "Russians!"

"What?"

"Yesterday, when I was on the run I was at a gas station in St Petersburg, Palmetto and I saw two Russian men. They had weird tattoos of course. I was wondering what they were doing here in Florida and at a gas station for that matter, but they blew it. Burnt it down to the ground" I huff out a breath and see anger cross my dad's eyes.

"You reached Palmetto?" Dad asked in annoyance.

"That's not the point right now, dad" I roll my eyes.

Dad nods, "Fucking, bloody Russians!" He cursed with a deep scowl.

"I don't get. Why would they blow a station?"

"Palmetto, you said?" Griff who's been standing by the corner asks me and I nod.

"Our last drug sales location was at a gas station at Palmetto," Griff tells my dad and my eyes widen.

"You sell drugs?" I glare at him and he looks at me.

"There's a reason sweetheart and you don't need to know" he paces around the library. "If it's true what you say about the Russians, then we must be on our guard. This is war." He stops walking and his eyes flicker to Ross who's standing by the door, his hands stuck in his pocket and staring down.

"You saved my daughter's life tonight," Daddy says, a warm look on his face. "I'm thankful to you, I don't know what I would've done if I had lost her tonight. I know, my whole world breaks"

Ross stares at my dad for a long time and I see an unfamiliar emotion cross his eyes. One that gives me chill. He then stared between me and my dad before speaking. "It's my job to keep her safe" He says with a small smirk.
