Chapter 4 Suspected Lover

Scarlet's heart began to pound so hard that she could hear it. She couldn't think straight for many seconds.

Her period had always been irregular, so she didn't panic after she didn't see it for three months straight.

Besides, she took morning-after pills the day after she and Lenny had sex.

"No, that can't be! I'm not pregnant. I took contraceptives after sex."

"Ma'am, it might interest you to know that contraceptives are not a hundred percent effective. There is a 3% chance that sexually active women would get pregnant even after taking them," the nurse explained and sighed.

Scarlet suddenly felt dizzy. Everything turned black again.

She was unconscious for another hour. When she woke up, she panicked again and had to take countless deep breaths to calm down.

She rubbed her belly with mixed feelings.

A baby was growing in her belly. And it was Lenny's.

How inconvenient! She had just divorced him two hours ago.

For many hours, Scarlet felt she was sinking in a quicksand. Several thoughts plagued her head. Worse still, she had no one to advise her now.

Should she tell Lenny that she was pregnant? After all, he was the father of the baby.

She felt that it was the right thing to do even if she might have to get an abortion.

As a young student, it would be extremely difficult for her to juggle her studies and childcare at this age.

It took a while before Scarlet finally summoned up the courage to leave the hospital. She decided to talk to Lenny.

As soon as she left, a woman immediately approached her ward and talked to the nurse who was tidying up the bed.

"What happened to that woman?"

"And you are?" the nurse asked warily.

"I'm her sister."

The nurse noticed that the woman looked like Scarlet, so she figured that it was true they were sisters. She gave her details of Scarlet's condition.

"It's nothing to worry about. She just suffered from sunstroke. Since you are her sister, you have to take good care of her. She's three months pregnant. Although she has passed the critical stage, she still has to be very careful."

"What? She's pregnant?" Colleen Brown exclaimed. When she saw that the nurse gave her a suspicious look, she flashed a fake smile and uttered, "Well, I see. Thank you."

The news of Scarlet's divorce from Lenny had gotten to the Brown family not too long ago. They heard that the alimony was a lot.

They were already scheming how to get their hands on the money. Surprisingly, Scarlet was pregnant.

Lenny had been out of the country for a whole year. How come Scarlet fell pregnant?

Colleen's eyes widened. Oh my! Could it be that Scarlet cheated on him?

What would Lenny do if he found out about this? Would he take back his money? Worse still, he might decide to vent his anger on the entire Brown family.

"This is not good! I can't let Scarlet land us into hot soup. I must find her and take her home before thinking of a way to deal with this mess!" Colleen said to herself with bated breath as she rushed out.

Scarlet went back to Lenny's villa. However, she was hesitant to go in. She hung around the villa for a long time.

Suddenly, she heard the roar of a car engine behind her. She turned around to see Lenny's car.

He was obviously surprised to see her here.

The backseat door opened. He came out and helped someone out of the car. It was a petite and thin woman, about the same height as Scarlet. She looked sweet and lovely.

When the woman saw Scarlet standing there, she moved closer to Lenny and tugged at his sleeve.

"Lenny... Who is she?"

"My ex-wife." Lenny added bluntly, "You go inside first. I'll handle it."

"Okay, I... I'll be waiting."

The woman flashed him a bright smile and followed the assistant into the villa.

Scarlet couldn't stop staring at this strange woman. Why was she here? Was she the woman Lenny loved?

"Who is that young woman?" she asked subconsciously.

"That's none of your business, Scarlet. Why are you here?" Lenny asked.

"Oh..." Scarlet mumbled. His words cut into her heart like a dozen knives.

More than ever, she felt that the man in front of her was so distant.

He was like a total stranger even though she didn't particularly know him well. It was almost as if they had never been married.

At this moment, Scarlet regretted coming here in the first place.

Would he care about her pregnancy? Probably not!

They hadn't been in love, nor gotten to know each other. Why would he be concerned about the baby?

Scarlet decided to make the decision herself.

She clenched her fists decisively and looked up at him with a smile.

"It's nothing, Mr. Foster. I only remembered that I left something here. It is not important. If you find it later, just throw it away. I'll take my leave now."

With these words, Scarlet turned around and walked away, holding her head up high.

As Lenny stared at her back, his heart skipped a beat.

She looked so weak. The urge to wrap his arms around her and protect her filled his heart.

Lenny clasped his palms tightly to stop himself. He was surprised at himself for thinking of such a thing.

Perhaps it was because Scarlet looked so much like the woman he spent the night with three months ago.
