Chapter 7 She's awake!

Of all the people, why did it have to be her?

Stanley saw the tension and panic on his Nicholas' face, and windered what was wrong. But when he heard how the lady ended up in the hospital, he was able to connect the dots. She was the woman Nicholas ran over that night! Small world. He could only imagine what must be going through Nicholas' mind right now.

He noticed that Nicholas had gone completely mute.

"It happened on an early monday morning. My poor girl was on her way to an interview. It was supposed to be a day of joy for us as she had worked really hard to get the job."

She narrated.

It all made sense now. Nicholas remembered how some papers went flying in the air, when she fell. It must have been all of her documents.

He now felt the gravity of what he had done.

"She would have to sign a contract, or you could do it on her behalf. One containing specific rules she must abide by."

" Under no circumstances should those rules be broken, else, every other agreement will be dissolved."

Nicholas suddenly blurted.

"Yes, sir! Of course. As long as she wakes up, she'll do whatever you ask, sir. I'll make sure of that."

Olivia said excitedly, unable to control her emotions.

"Fine, then. I'll have her moved to a bigger hospital, and have one of the best doctors treat her."

"And...discretion is key, ma'am. I wouldn't want all the media attention. So, this stays between us. Is that clear?"

Nicholas explained to Olivia, who was now in tears.

"Yes, sir. Of course. You have nothing to worry about."

"Thank you so much, sir. I really appreciate it. Thank you, sir."

She went on to kneel at his feet, and couldn't keep the tears from falling.

She wept in gratitude as she held Nicholas' leg, before Stanley pulled her up. Nicholas was uncomfortable with the whole situation.

If only this woman knew what he did, she wouldn't be thanking him right now. He felt guilt wash over him. His mood changed the moment his fears were trully confirmed. Karma truly had no menu. You get serve what you deserve.

Nicholas stepped out of the hospital, and headed towards his car. His bodyguards who were outside the door, followed immediately after.

After a while, Stanley joined him in the car, and they left.

It all still felt like a dream to Olivia. The CEO had moved Josephina to a bigger hospital, as promised. 'Crystal' hospital was one of the best hospitals in the city. One that was only meant for the rich. It was the hospital for the rich.

Josephina's ward was very huge, spacious and comfortable. It was bigger than their home. Olivia had a special chef who prepared her meals, thanks to Nicholas. And there was a very huge sofa where she slept in the ward.

Different specialist doctors were on Josephina, Administering the right medications to her, and checking for the slightest improvement. It was almost like treating royalty. There was no way Olivia would have been able to afford all of this. Not even in her whole entire existence.

The man's magnanimity was unmatched.

Alone now with Josephina, Olivia was smiling. She felt very optimistic about the whole change. She was glad that she was able to do something to improve the situation. Not too long after, a nurse came in to check on Josephina, and Olivia took the opportunity to use the bathroom.

While the nurse was trying to regulate Josephina's drip line, she noticed her fingers move. In total shock and disbelief, she ran to go get the doctor.

Doctor Alex hurriedly entered the ward to examine her, and Josphina moved two of her fingers. Before the doctor could say Jack, suddenly..., Josephina flicked her eyes open.

The windows were opened, and the ray of light almost blinded her as she squinted and shut her eyes. She wasn't used to the light. She tried opening them again, and that was when her mother walked in.

"Oh my God! Jose- Josephi--na!! Oh my God! honey you're awake?! Jesus Christ!"

She screamed. Overwhelmed with joy and happiness, Olivia darted towards her daughter, and gave her a delicate hug.

The nurses had to pull her off Josephina, for fear of snuffing the oxygen out of her. The doctor examined her and ran numerous tests.

He also asked her some random questions, to be sure she didn't suffer any brain damages, and Josephina could only blink. She painfully made a fist and raised her hand to her mouth, indicating she was thirsty, and the nurse quickly brought her a glass of water.

It was a complete struggle, passing the water through her parched throat. Swallowing was a tough feat, and she managed to do it in small gulps.

Her mother sat facing her and looking in awe, she was tearing up and sniffing. But they were happy tears. She thanked everything she held dear, that her daughter was given a second chance at life.

"M- mu-m?"

It was barely audible. If Olivia wasn't paying close attention, she might not have heard it. Josephina finally spoke, and her mother couldn't contain her joy.

"Yes honey, i'm here. I'm right here. Thank God!"

She said, rubbing her arms, and soothing her.

Nicholas was in a meeting when he saw the doctor's call. Knowing it would be important, he excused himself from the meeting to take the call.

"Hello, doctor Alex. What's going on? Everything okay? "

He asked, anxious to know why the doctor was calling him.

"Everything is great, Mr Thompson. Actually, i have some good news."

He said, and Nicholas' heart skipped.

"She's awake. The patient has finally opened her eyes. She survived."

The doctor said.

Nicholas didn't know what to say or how to react. One thing was for sure, he felt happy and anxious upon hearing the news, and he didn't know why. Maybe it was because of the guilt. He felt like a weight had been lifted off his shoulder.

"That's good to hear. Thank you so much, Doctor. I'm in a meeting right now. I'll talk to you later."

He said, and ended the call.

Nicholas was back at the meeting, but his mind wasn't. He was just anxious, and restless. He was so relieved to hear the news, and was happy that he wouldn't get to deal with the guilt anymore. He suddenly began to wonder how she would be feeling right now.

She must be very hungry after staying in coma for a month. He imagined what her voice would sound like. Her personality, or attitude.

Was she as innocent as she looked when he saw her on that hospital bed? He imagined if she was still looking as flawless as she did, or if something had changed.

He quickly dismissed the thought as he saw no reason to entertain it.
