Chapter 8 THE NEW SECRETARY

Frost and Leo were already in the dining room with Maria setting the table. Vinca came in like a breath of fresh air in a humid room, with Bruno at her heels.

Both men looked at her in awe. She was the real epitome of spring; a fairy princess in a purple sundress and a light matching sweater with pink slippers, holding pink roses in her hand.

For sure, spring had arrived. She gave each one of them a rose as a sign of appreciation for the love and care that they had shown her since her rescue, blushing a crimson red as she handed the flowers.

She was very much at ease in their presence, like a family from another world. She frowned as she had a passing thought of her mother and father.

The table was laid with fried eggs, sausages, baked beans, grilled tomatoes, and toasted bread. One had a choice of either coffee or tea.

As they were eating, Vinca turned to Frost and asked him if he had thought about the request she made some time back. She needed to get a job and keep herself busy even as she was continuing with her therapy sessions.

Sometimes, seated alone, she would have a recollection of things that happened to her in her past, like she would see the face of a younger version of her with an older couple, walking down the street. Or she would see herself and Damont on a date in a restaurant.

Everything was still distorted at the moment and to bring some sanity into her life, she needed a job to keep her busy. Of course, Frost didn't want to agree to this thinking that she might overwork herself in the name of running away from her thoughts but Leo together with Maria managed to convince him to give this a chance.

Early morning she was dressed in a crispy yellow and blue suit with a flowered scarf around her neck. She. looked at the official part as she eagerly waited for Frost to sermon her into his office. He had organized for her to be his secretary so that he could keep an eye on her.

Coming into the building in the morning with Leo by her side, she was so nervous as all eyes were on her. Whispers were heard around her as people speculated who she was because they had never seen the boss's assistant in a female company.

Frost eventually called her into the office. "Do you have any experience in Office Management?" he asked.

"Yes, I do. I can type at 80 words per minute. I am also good at office organization. I know my way around a computer and I can also make tea." She answered with a bright smile.

Leo, who was very happy to have a female companion on the top floor, couldn't wait to show her to her cubicle that was adjacent to his office and directly facing the CEO's office.

Frost called for a short meeting in the conference room for all employees and introduced Vinca as his secretary.

Some of the young female employees were jealous of her presence in the company and more so her position. After dismissing them, everyone went back to their workstations. Linda and Jane the front office receptionists couldn't help gossiping.

"Where did such a flat-faced woman come from,?"

"I wonder, when did the boss start having a female secretary? Isn't his assistant enough to handle his tasks?"

"Who knows, maybe she wants to jump into our CEO's bed and become the first lady, chimed in Shanice who was listening to their conversation.

"Mmhh, she had better not try to mess with us because we will show her no mercy"

That is the conversation that Leo walked into. Clearing his throat to make his presence known, he went towards them.

"The three of you had better stop spouting nonsense otherwise you will be out of jobs before you know it"

They bowed in apology, turning crimson in the face at having been caught red-handed.

Vinca was in for a rough time in the company. Leo got her a new computer from the store room and set it up on her desk. He then keyed in some commands as she went to Frost's office for her first batch of work. She felt a thrill seated at her desk as she typed out the letter given to her by Frost.

There was a commotion at the front desk. An immaculately dressed beautiful lady stood with her nose up in the air. Her bodyguard, a man of a sturdy structure with muscles bulging under his black suit was standing guard next to her.

The receptionists were trying to explain to her that she couldn't go to the top floor to see their boss without an appointment but she was having none of it, insisting that their boss was her boyfriend and she had come to give him a surprise visit.

Not giving a hoot about what the receptionists were saying, she moved towards the private elevator that went straight to the top floor. As the receptionists rushed to stop her, they were roughly pushed aside by her bodyguard. Jane had no choice but to call Nick and alert him of the visitor.

Coming out of the elevator, she strutted towards Frost's office, excitement building up in her at the thought of seeing him again after so long. She could see herself with his arms wrapped around her as she lifted her head to receive a kiss from him. A wide smile spread across her face.

Leo came out of his office in a rush to warn Stam only to come face to face with the one person he never wished to see again in his entire life.

"Miss Bernice Skylar, what brings you here?" Bernice looked at Leo like she had seen a very disgusting sight and didn't bother to answer him. Vinca, seated at her cubicle wondered who this beautiful lady was.
