Chapter 5 Arthur is an angel!

Alexa is standing in front of the mirror. Today she wore a white long frock and wrapped a white scarf around her head. Doriana sits in the yard knitting a woolen sweater. Today is Sunday. Daniel's school is closed, he went to play with his friends.

"Mom I'm going out,"

Alexa said as she walked down the yard toward the orchard. Doriana looked at her and knitting the sweater again. Alexa walks through the orchards. Last night she saw a pair of green lights shining here. Immediately she remembered the howling last night!

Even on this sunny day, Alexa's body began to twitch. Alexa crossed the crop field and entered into the forest. Picked up a bouquet of wild flowers and tied it with the dry thin bark of a mahogany tree. She said to herself,

"Emily, I will never pick flowers with you again. I will never go walking with you in the deep forest of this jungle, Emily. Never again!

Alexa came to the village road with a bouquet of flowers. Carriage traffic on the streets of Lublin has increased considerably these days. Alexa walked a short distance and took a carriage straight to Emily's house. Alighting from the carriage, she saw two strange men and Ella's husband John Benedict standing at Emily's house talking about something important.

Alexa followed Emily's house without looking. Emily and Ella's uncle built a burial ground because of Emily and Ella's insistence on their own land, some distance behind Emily's house. After Emily's parents died, a cemetery was built and buried there.

Alexa is standing in front of the cemetery, she has seen two graves here since childhood. And today another new tomb next to her! Emily's Tomb!

Alexa slowly stepped forward and placed the bouquet of wildflowers on the tombstone. When she touched the tombstone, salty water rolled down the corners of her eyes. But Alexa didn't wipe her eyes, she said in a choked voice,

"Maybe you understand, death is very close to you. I feel the same way today. Emily, maybe we will meet soon.

Alexa couldn't say anything else, she broke down and cried. Today the sun is shining in the sky, even in this light it seems as if Alexa is disappearing in the dark.

It was almost noon, Alexa came out of the cemetery. Came in front of Emily's house and saw three carriages standing in front of the house.

As Alexa walked forward, Ella called out,

"Hey! Alexa!! How are you?

Alexa smiled and said, "I'm good, how are you sister!?"

After talking with Ella, Alexa entered Emily's house. Ella decided to vacate the house and sell it. Alexa wants to spend one last time in her best friend's room. Entering Emily's room, Alexa looks around the room with tired eyes.

Lublin Police Officer Mr. Thomas is reading the newspaper with disgust in his eyes. Writing about the wolf terror in Lublin is also happening in the city. Many people in the village have already left Lublin and moved to nearby villages. Many have gone to distant cities!

Thomas doesn't like the matter at all. Thomas rang the bell and call for Joseph and Oliver. These two are very hardworking and honest.Philip came in behind Joseph and Oliver. Thomas looked away from the newspaper and asked Philip,

" Why are you here!?

Philip looked around and said with courage, "Sir, I know you must be sending them to some operation. I want to go with you, sir."

Thomas let out a small breath and said, "Of course I will send you, if necessary. You can go now.

Philip left the office disappointed. Philip is always ready to show his bravery. But seeing his childish and reckless behavior Thomas doesn't trust Philip very much. As Philip left, Thomas folded the newspaper and said,

"The people of Lublin are leaving the village one by one in fear of wolves. Meanwhile, in the city, true false stories about Lublin are being written in the newspapers.

Oliver shook his head and said, "That's the job of journalists, to add more jokes to what they hear. But there's one thing I don't understand, sir.

Hearing Oliver's words, Thomas looked up, Oliver said again, "Until last year, there was as much fear in Lublin in the winter. The flock of wolves attacked the sheep on the farm. Sometimes they sat down to eat people without finding the sheep. But even after last winter, the wolves movement does not stop.

The furrow of thought deepened on Thomas' forehead, rubbing his palm over his snot. Joseph flipped the newspaper over and said,

"Sir, the forest in the mountains has been mentioned repeatedly here. People also hear about the forest. I think we should search the forest with force. What do you think!?

Thomas thought of something and said, "Well, then prepare the force. We will conduct a search operation in the jungle.

Alexa went straight to her room after entering the house. She brought along two pictures taken with her friends and Emily's diary. Alexa don't want that someone read her friend's personal diary.

Alexa put down two pictures of her friends on the table. Emily, Julian and she in a picture. The photo was taken on Julian's birthday. Another photo of Alexa and Emily smiling happily.

Alexa took the diary and put it in the drawer, took the clothes and entered for bath. Doriana is preparing food for Alexa in the dining room. Allen has a high fever. Doriana goes to the room with soup for Allen after feeding Daniel.

Allen is lying on the bed with his eyes closed. His body has not been doing very well lately. Doriana sat on the bed. Allen said,

"I'm not hungry Doria, you eat."

Doriana Sighed and said, "You're not hungry!? You'll get sicker on an empty stomach.

Doriana took a spoonful of soup from the bowl and put it in his mouth. Doriana said as she fed Allen,

"Many of the villagers are moving to nearby villages or somewhere far away. Allen, I'm afraid too. These days, someone is being hunted by wolves every week. I think we should leave too."

Hearing Doriana's words, Allen clutched his chest and began to cough. He must have caught a cold in his chest. He was a little embarrassed and said,

"Where will we go from here, Doria!? Even if we go, what will we do when we go there!? Tell me where we will leave our land!?

Doriana's face showed a look of despair. Allen held Doriana's face in both hands and said,

"Don't be afraid, trust in God. Everything will be alright."

Alexa came downstairs after showering, entered the kitchen and saw the food on the table. Daniel is sitting on the steps outside scribbling something in a notebook. Alexa went and sat next to him. Daniel didn't notice. He is drawing pictures.

Alexa smiled and said,

"Did you eat lunch!?

Daniel nodded, Alexa asked, "Where are our parents!? Are they sleeping!?

Daniel said without looking, "Dad has a high fever, mom went to feed him.

Alexa got up and went to her parents' room. Doriana was just wiping Allen's face. Alexa tensely asked,

"Dad, what happened to you!? Why didn't mom tell me anything!?

Doriana calmed her daughter and said, " Don't worry Alexa. It's just a fever. It will be fine if he rest a little. You better sit next to your father.

Alexa sat on the side of the bed and said, "Dad are you okay!? How are you feeling now!?

Allen grabbed Alexa's hand and said, "I'm fine Alexandra. Where have you been all this time!? Have you had lunch!?"

Alexa patted her father's head and said, "No dad, I'll eat later."

Alexa came to the room after lunch. She doesn't like sitting at home anymore. It's like suffocating. Alexa sat by the window and leaned against the wall. Fruit orchards, fields, forests can all be seen from here. Alexa made up her mind that she would go to the forest in the mountains this afternoon.

Alexa is walking through the forest, walking and sitting next to a pond. Alexa often visited here with Emily and Julian. Alexa used to come with Emily after Julian went to study in the city.

A small pond in the middle of wild bushes, surrounded by unknown tall grass-like trees. Small and medium sized pebbles are scattered around the edge of the reservoir.

Alexa sat on a medium-sized rock. She is spending today in an impossible depression. She can't find peace anywhere. But coming to the forest, how does Alexa feel calm.

Sunlight cannot reach deep in the forest. Due to which the water of this reservoir looks more beautiful than the natural reservoir outside. The algae accumulated in the water. The faint light of the sun falling on the water of the reservoir increases its beauty several times.

Alexa picked up small pebbles and threw them one by one into the green water of the pool. Suddenly she heard a familiar voice and turned back in shock. Arthur is standing a few hands away!

Alexa asked with a raised eyebrow,

" Why are you here!?

Arthur laughed and said, "Why, am I forbidden to come here!?

Alexa said without shaking her head, "No, actually I didn't mean that.

Arthur came forward and asked, "Can I sit down!?"

Alexa smiled and agreed. Arthur immediately sat down next to Alexa. Alexa asked, throwing stones again,

"So this time are you came for visiting!?"

Arthur also grabs a few pebbles from the side, throwing them into the pool, keeping up with Alexa. Without looking at Alexa, he said,

"No, I didn't come for a visit at all. I came to Miss Emily's house, to buy sheep. But when I came, I found the house locked. Maybe she's gone somewhere. So I thought I'd take a little walk in the direction of the woods."

Alexa's face turned into sad after hearing Emily's name, "Emily is dead!!!

Hearing this, Arthur stopped. Looked at Alexa and asked, "When!? How!?"

Alexa looked at the green water of the pool and said, "Where the wolf devil roams, how the people will die!?"

Arthur smirked at Alexa's words, which escaped Alexa's eyes. Arthur sighed,

"That's right. May Emily rest in peace anyway.

Alexa nodded her head, but didn't say anything. Arthur looked around and said,

"It's not too late for dusk, let's go now."

Alexa said with a sly smile, "What's the rush!? What will happen when the evening falls!? The jungle will be covered in darkness! Night will wake up the nocturnal devils!?

Arthur looks at Alexa with sharp eyes. How the calm girl has become reckless! Alexa paused and said,

"You can go if you want, Arthur. But I won't. I'll stay here today."

Arthur flinched at Alexa's words, trying to calm himself. He went in front of Alexa and whispered,

"Alexandra it's enough. Let's get out of here.

Alexa giggled, arching her eyebrows and asked, "Why Arthur! Are you scared!?"

"You should be scared, Alexandra.

Arthur chuckled. Hearing Arthur's words, Alexa looked inquisitively, got down from the rock and stood in front of Arthur. Arthur asked somewhat hesitantly,

"What happened!?

He thinks to himself, "What is the girl looking at like this!? Did she find out something!?

Alexa asked with a raised eyebrow, "Well, why did you call me by my full name!?

Arthur, not knowing what to say. He forced a smile and said, "Sorry!

After that he picked up Alexa, Alexa was shocked by Arthur's sudden action.

" Why did you pick me up!? Let me go, let me go!"

"I'm sorry about that, Miss Alexandra. Now don't run around and be quiet, or I'll leave you here,"

Arthur said as he held Alexa tighter and walked away. Alexa frowned,

"That's what I want. But you're not letting it happen!"

Arthur smiled, " Those whose death is written will die at the time, not before.

Alexa asked in surprise, "So! Do you know! When I'm going to die!?"

Alexa babbled all the way. As they neared the house, Arthur dropped Alexa off in the orchard.

Alexa got down and breathed a sigh of relief,

"Luckily, you dropped me off here."

When she was about to leave, Arthur called back and said, " Won't you ask me to come!?

Alexa left without a word. Arthur stood for a moment and disappeared into the dense blackness of the forest.

Police Officer Thomas received a letter from the Warsaw police station. Thomas opened the envelope and began to read it. He was not very pleased with the letter. While folding the letter, he rang the bell.

After a while, Joseph and Oliver entered his office. Thomas asked them both to sit down and stood up. While walking he said,

"They are unwilling to send a force from Warsaw, they said they will send five from "Katna". They will come the day before the campaign. They will leave when the campaign is over.

"Don't worry sir. We will all try our best together," said Joseph.

"I trust, you will not disappoint me," said Thomas with a sigh of relief.

Joseph and Oliver said together, "Yes sir.

As he was about to leave the office, Thomas called out, "Call Philip "

Philip is sitting in a shop next to the Lublin police station and drinking tea. He was reading newspaper while drinking tea, in the meantime Oliver came and stood in front of him.

Oliver sat on the bench opposite, Philip after ordering a cup of tea. Philip put down the newspaper when he saw Oliver. Oliver took the paper and blinked,

"Sir Thomas has called you.

Philip quickly left the tea and stood up to leave.

"Maybe he'll let you go for the jungle expedition." Oliver smiled.

Hearing this, Philip danced happily. Oliver smiled lightly and began to fold the newspaper.

Philip is standing in front of Thomas's office, he knocks gently.

"Come in Philip," said Thomas from inside.

Philip opened the door and entered. Thomas asked Philip to sit down and said,

"Tomorrow the force will arrive from Katna. Early tomorrow morning there will be a raid in the jungle. You must go with them, be ready."

Alexa came to the room after having dinner. She took the lantern from the table shelf and lit it, took the sweater and started knitting. She was a little surprised to see Arthur in the jungle this afternoon. If he didn't go there today, then today would be Alexa's last day on earth.

Today Alexa felt like Arthur is an angel. Who brought Alexa from the darkness to the light! And also he called her by her full name, Alexandra!

Unknowingly, a smile appeared on the corner of Alexa's lips. Alexa let out a soft moan at the thought. Blood came out of the cut finger! Seeing the blood, the terrible face of Emily flashed in her mind. Alexa stood up from her chair, panting. Suddenly she felt someone close to her saying,

"Sleep Alexa, sleep!"

The words are so close to her ears that Alexa's whole body tingles. Eyelids are getting heavy. she is feeling sleepy. Alexa shuffled to the side of the bed and collapsed. Immediately, a pair of hands pulled her and wrapped her in a strong arm. Alexa looked up with sleepy eyes and smiled,

"Arthur!

In the morning, Alexa woke up to her mother's call.

Doriana said in a frightened voice,

"Alexa. Get up! Your father's health condition is not good. I am very scared."

Alexa sat up with a thud, got off the bed and ran into her father's room. Allen is lying in bed, waking up every now and then. Alexa ran and sat next to her father. Allen mumbled something while holding Alexa's hand. But Alexa doesn't understand anything. Alexa worriedly said,

"Daddy! Daddy, tell me what happened to you!!

Doriana entered the room, followed by Arthur!

Seeing him Alexa didn't care about that. Arthur came running after seeing Allen's condition. He is sitting on the side of the bed with his hands on his head. Doriana is going in and out of the room once.

While walking, she said,

" I've called Dr. Roger. But he hasn't come yet!!

Arthur called Doriana and said, "Aunty don't get worried. Do you have a big drum!?

Doriana thought for a moment and said, "Yes, there is a big drum. But there is fruit in it.

Arthur came up and said, "You arrange the water, and where's the drum!?

Arthur went out with Doriana. After a while Arthur came and picked Allen up. Leading him out of the room and inter into the living room. Alexa got up and ran after him. She came to the living room and saw a big drum full of water! Arthur took Allen and gently lowered him into the drum. Alexa doesn't understand what Arthur is doing.

Daniel looks surprised. Doriana is helping Arthur.

Allen's fever subsided after keeping a drum full of water for about half an hour. Arthur took Allen into the room and put him on the bed. Doriana wipes her hands. Alexa is leaning against the door of her parents' room. Arthur came after fresh up and said,

"Uncle's fever has subsided. He will be fine if he rests for a couple of days.

"Thank you so much, Arthur. For everything." Alexa said gratefully.

Arthur smiled and said, "For everything! Then I won't accept empty thanks."

Alexa doesn't understand what Arthur is trying to say. Arthur came a little closer to Alexa and said,

"Can I eat your hand made cooking this afternoon!?

Alexa looked for a while and said, "Well, tell me what you want to eat."
