"Aye lass get ye pants on, we have a bit of a problem with the neighbor." Groaning, I flopped back down on the bed and closed my eyes. Ok, it wasn't a dream it as a nightmare, when I open my eyes, it will not be the butt crack of dawn, and there will not be an annoying, if not hot, man standing in my doorway judging me.
I cracked open my eyes and saw he was still standing there. Glancing out the window snow fell in tiny flakes dusting the windowpanes. The heater in my room was on full blast and I had about ten blankets piled on me. He was still giving me that judging look with his penetrating hazel eyes.
"Do you mind? Have you heard of something called privacy?" He snorted and continued staring at me like some creeper. I threw a pillow at him and it hit him right in the face.
"I will give ye five minutes to put some pants on or I am dragging ye down to the stable in what you are wearing." Continuing to glower at him he threw the pillow back at me and slammed the door. I kicked off the mountain of covers and reached for the pants I wore the day before. Most girls would have tried to at least look somewhat cute for the sexy intruder in their bedroom, I just wanted to kick him in his sculpted butt and go back to bed.
Making my way down the stairs I did a quick turn and went into the kitchen where Eugenia was humming and the smell of fresh bread and coffee danced in the air. I sighed and Eugenia shot me a smile. Maybe she knew who the weirdo was that I found in my room.
"Hey Eugenia, something strange just happened, there was this strange, rude, guy just gawking at me in my doorway this morning. Please tell me I was hallucinating from jet lag and there was not a pervert watching me sleep." Eugenia kept ticking her head towards the pantry and I thought she just had an itch; her hands were covered in flour so it wasn't exactly like she could itch it.
"Why whatever is wrong with you Eugenia? Do you have an itch?" She sighed as the man came out of the pantry with two large 'to go' mugs and he was staring at me again with that penetrating gaze.
"Ye are completely oblivious aren't ye? Geenie please fill these up we need to deal with the witch from next door." Eugenia sighed and took the mugs.
"Make sure she doesn't get in trouble, you remember how Melinda handled things." I raised my eyebrows, How did Great Aunt Melinda deal with the witch next door. I really wanted to know how she handled it. They both shared a look and ignored me.
"Aye but I am not the lass's babysitter." He shoved the coffee mug towards me and stalked out the door, Magnus let out a loud woof and jumped on the man. Scowling I stuck my tongue out at his retreating back and grabbed my coat and boots from the side of the door.
"Please try to get along with Mack he is a good guy, a bit surly but he has a good heart. He didn't mean to give you a fright when I told him to go wake you up." I waved Eugenia away and thanked her for the coffee, doubling back I gave her a peck on the cheek and her eyes filled with tears.
There was a woman by the stables yelling at Mack, Magnus was growling at her and she had two kids attached to her ample hips. I shouldn't really talk about her body; I was quite well endowed in the hips and shoulders myself but this woman was downright pineapple shaped. Her kids started running around and poking through things around the stable, and she just let those monsters run free? One of the horses snorted and let out a loud whinny.
"Ok lady you want to put a leash on your crotch goblins?" Mack's eyes widened and her eyes looked like they were ready to bug out of her head, she reminded me of a frog that was run over by a truck.
"Jacob, Kendra please get away from that horse before you get hurt." I winced at the sound of her voice as it pierced my ear drums.
"Mrs. Lachlan, if ye would just stop to listen," She raised a sausage finger to shush him and I felt the hackles go up on my neck. I did not know the guy but who was she to go bossing around someone on my property.
"Listen here lady, I don't know what broomstick you have up your butt, but I think you need to get off my property." Her face turned bright red and she stormed towards me and I stood taller than her and she smelled like rotten cheese.
"I called the constable and he will be here to deal with this vicious animal that attacked my children." She was pointing at Magnus; Mack went to try and stand between us but I pushed him out of the way. He stumbled and I kind of felt bad but this woman was on my property, threatening my dog, well bring on the constable, I was about to lay a beat down on this Karen.
"Well I guess that means I don't have much time to shove my foot up your..." Mack slapped a hand over my mouth and started dragging me towards the stable. Magnus was barking his head off and the woman was screaming, well more like screeching.
He tossed me into a pile of hay, Magnus came by me and started growling at him. I wanted to get back up and start fighting everyone but Mack glared at us both.
"I do NOT want to hear a peep out of either of ye and STAY here until I tell ye to come out." I shifted in the hay and he pointed at me again, there was a vein bulging on his forehead and he looked ready to murder Magnus and me.
Slamming the stable door I flipped it off and lay back in the hay. My first truly official day in Scotland and I was picking fights with the neighbor, had some strange man in my bedroom and the threat of arrest is hanging over my head. I scratched the dog's ears and let out a laugh.
"Well Magnus, looks like you and I are both delinquents." he licked my face than lay on my lap.
