Chapter 6

Parking Lot at Discovery Pizza

Scott gently woke up the girls so they would get in their booster seats. Cody and Luke got in their spots and helped the little girls with their seatbelts. Scott noticed that Madeline was quiet since that encounter with that punk. He walked to her side of the midnight blue SUV and opened the front passenger seat door.

He turned her legs so she would face him. She had her head down until he lifted her chin up. He saw tears rolling down her red cheeks. He wiped them away with his thumb, took her hair tie out of her head, and ran his fingers through her black straight hair. She closed her eyes and tried to get herself together. He brought her to his chest and hugged her. She stiffened a bit but took a deep breath and exhaled. She could smell his fading cologne and a bit of perspiration but it mixed well. She had calmed down but still a bit ashamed at how she was acting.

"I'm sorry that I'm acting like this and bringing trouble. I guess I dressed to sexy and attracted the wrong attention,"she said in his shoulder.

Scott was confused about what she said. He didn't understand why she was blaming herself for that asshole harassing her. He looked at her fitted dark blue skinny jeans, red baseball style shirt, white and red hi-top shoes with little makeup on her face, and her hair around her shoulders. He immediately concluded that her abusive husband more than likely tore her self confidence and esteem down constantly. He was disgusted by Lester and he really didn't know the man. Just knew Lester had a beautiful wife and two great kids that lived next door to his house for almost a decade.

Scott rubbed Madeline 's arms and kissed her forehead.

"It wasn't your fault. It was that asshole's fault for not knowing what no meant. I don't think anything you put on would change how sexy you are. You could put on a potato sack on and I would find it attractive and every red blooded male over the age of twenty would too," Scott complimented.

Madeline was shocked and taken aback by what Scott had said to her.

"I like being your fake husband so don't be ashamed,"Scott chuckled when Madeline immediately went red again.

Scott laughed and surprising himself kissed Madeline on the lips. Madeline surprised herself and kissed him back but pulled away as quickly the kiss started. A bit awkward and confused at each other's forwardness, Scott went to the driver's side of the SUV and turned the engine over.

45 minutes later

"Daddy I need to go potty,"Lucy called up to the front of the car.

Scott was startled a bit because he was replaying what happened in his head when he kissed his son friend's mom. 'Very attractive mom. Unfortunately very married mom with a great ass,' Scott thought to himself.

He kept sneaking glances at the sleeping woman and driving at the same time.

"Daddy I need to go potty,"Lucy said again a bit louder in case her father didn't hear her the first time.

"Alright Lu. Here, a diner is coming up we can use,"Scott said and exited off the freeway.

Madeline felt the car slowing and started to open her eyes. She thought they made it to the intended destination but realized it was a diner instead. She saw Scott letting out Lucy who was doing the universal potty dance. Lekki was following her friend out of the car too. Scott nudged the boys to wake up so they could use the bathroom as well.

Madeline got out and grabbed her satchel purse. She opened her side of the passenger door and Luke came out followed by Cody. She grabbed the boys' hands and followed Scott to the diner entrance.

Greasy Country Lovin' On

The family walked to the entrance door and it said 'No public restroom! Only for paying patrons'. THX Mgment

Scott was about to turn around but stopped when he heard the door open and the bell jingle. He walked in with the girls and stood next to Madeline .

"I could go for something to eat. I'll take Lucy and Lekki then you go with the boys after you get us a booth,"she said and left with the girls after Scott agreed.

Scott waited a bit longer until a waiter escorted his family to a corner booth.

With Katelyn

Katelyn hated her life right now. She hated that she had to work when she was used to being cared for. She wasn't able to bask in luxurious things like she was used to. She was lied to the very moment she went to go get her car detailed, oh how much she cursed that day.

Flashback

Katelyn, was at the car dealership getting the family car detailed and maintenance work done on it. She was enjoying her rare moments of being by herself. Her mother-in-law insisted that she took her young kids to the zoo to give Katelyn a breather. Katelyn enjoyed motherhood to an extent but felt that she was cheated out on the finer things of life.

Growing up she knew she was going to marry rich, have two kids with a nanny and a m to take care of everything while she looked cute in expensive clothes and spent her husband's money however she pleased. That was how she was groomed to be and do.

Her family spoiled her since she was an only child to the Davenport Multi Million Dollar Oil Company. She grew up with a golden spoon in her mouth and thought she married a man that would continue with that type of lifestyle.

She was so wrong.

Scott's family came from old money as hers did. But Scott was one of those that wanted to make his own money and not rely on his father's influence nor money. Much to Katelyn's chargin the slippery slope to middle class was hard to cope with but she was a trooper. Stupid love and heart.

She kept in touch with her friends growing up and they were quick to share what their husbands did and what expensive gift their husband bought. Trips that they were gifted and a black credit card with no limits on it.

Katelyn was a bit jealous and wanted Scott to do just that as well. Instead he gave her babies, a custom house he designed that she had to maintain, and an allowance of $2,000 she could have to do what she pleased with.

She was thankful that Scott didn't cheat and was excellent in the bed. She was also glad that her husband was nothing like her next door neighbor Madeline's either. Lester made a pass but quickly stopped when she threatened to tell her husband and make a police report. But there was still something missing and she just didn't know.

Katelyn, still waiting on her car to get done she walked around the car lot daydreaming what she would be doing in one of the new line SUV that was being advertised as the 'Must have of the year'.

She was looking at the price tag and shuttered.

She couldn't believe she shuttered at $64,000.

She use to spend that in a weekend if she was being lazy when she was growing up. Now she is forced to think smartly with money.

"What a pretty lady as yourself know anything about a car other than it needs gas to go and oil to keep it running," a husky voice whispered in her ear.

She jumped a bit being startled out of her daydream of endless shopping and filling this car up with bags. Katelyn turned towards the dapper man and eyed him. He was wearing a three piece blue suit, and brown shoes, with a little black stubble on his chiseled face. He looked at her with his grey eyes as if he wanted to devour her.

Katelyn was taken aback because she looked a mess. She had a hair appointment right after this and also a nail appointment too. Her small ray of freedom she kept up with to maintain her upbringing she was use to.

The man introduced himself as Seth Calloway and was indeed related to the Calloway Farms. Katelyn saw dollar signs but quickly shook her head she was married after all and mother of two now. She was flattered and entertained the man's blatant fluttering for a while longer.

'It's nice to be looked at as a sexy vixen again and not just a fixed live in maid and milk machine. What's harm in flirting back just for a little while. I'm definitely not getting much at home since Scott is working all the time,' Katelyn thought and entertained the attention the man was giving her.

End of Flashback

Katelyn remembered that day bitterly because not long after that started her slippery slope to poverty. Indeed Seth was related to the Calloways but he was a cousin twice removed and had no real connections to get any of the estate nor millions. The suit he had on was a rental he used for an interview as a salesman. That's why he was at the car dealership. He saw her and thought she was well off and pretended to dress down to avoid predators such as himself trying to make a move.

It took a great deal of his savings to woo Katelyn and even more to convince her that he was the real deal. Much to his chargin his investment didn't pan out well. He did luck out and was able to get married to Katelyn and own a business of his own. He knew that this diner was a stepping stone to the luxury life that he believed was just on the horizon. Katelyn wanted her old life back and seeing Scott again gave her hope.

'It's definitely not greener on the other side,' Katelyn thought bitterly as she looked at her wedding band that was turning green again and the diamond fell off somewhere.

Her now current husband, who was the short order cook, made her earn her keep. He wouldn't give her a divorce and made sure she didn't take birth control because he wanted her pregnant with their first child.

Katelyn could remember vividly when she decided to leave her small family all those years ago because she was promised money and a carefree life with no kids.

Lies!

She could scream!

What she got was a second rate husband that forced her to work in his off road country side diner. They got in all kinds of weirdos at all times of day and night.

She didn't have to go far to get home since they lived in a cramp trailer behind the diner. That cramp trailer was supposed to be a penthouse overlooking the Downtown Skyline. She kicked herself for leaving her husband and small children. She knew Scott was coming up rapidly in the Architecture sector because she subscribed to goArch Inc.

So to say she was beyond surprised and enraged to see her ex husband not depressed and didn't even recognize her.

She placed three menus down hoping he would recognize her and save her.

"Oh we will need two more kids' menus ," Scott said as he let Lekki and Lucy in the booth next to him.

Lucy sat on his lap and started to color the kid's menu. Lekki got the other kid's menu and got on Scott's other leg. The boys left to find the restroom where Madeline waited for them.

Katelyn shook her head and immediately went to the back to spruce up her wardrobe. She could at least try to get her ex husband to want to have her back. At this point in her miserable life she wasn't above groveling.

She went to her locker and applied dried out makeup to her face to make her look a bit better. She ran a hairbrush through her greasy black hair and put it in a simple bun. She lowered her zipper of her brown and white uniform to show her breasts. She reached for a cleaner apron and replaced her dirty one.

A burly man came into the women's locker room and watched his wife transform into a beautiful woman who he wished would stay. He saw the ex husband and wanted to kick him out but a customer was a paying customer. He came to the back to see what Katelyn was doing. That's when he saw her doing a mini makeover.

Katelyn was leaving to go back out when she saw her husband watching her with his arms folded against his chest.

"What are you doing back here?"Katelyn questioned as she tied her white server's apron around her waist.

"I was seeing what was taking you so long to get their orders. The wife had sat down already," Seth informed her.

Katelyn stopped.

Her lungs and heart stopped functioning for three split seconds. Then it hit her like a ton of bricks. The woman she told where the restrooms were, was sitting in the same booth as her ex husband.

She immediately recognized who it was.

Madeline Davidson who lived next door to her old house.

Katelyn was pissed!

She knew those two had something going on but now the proof was in the pudding.

'Man!! I wish I knew they were having an affair while I was married. I could have gotten more money. I could have at least been able to keep the house. Damn! Well I got him once I can do it again. Watch out Madeline , I'm getting my life back,' Katelyn thought.

She walked back to the main dining room but stopped when another server,Adam, was taking her meal ticket's order.

She briskly walked by other tables that was trying to get her attention and heard one of them call her a bitch.

She didn't care.

She was a broke bitch that needed her bastard ex husband to have mercy and let her back in. She reached the table and heard Scott order for the table.

"Three Lemon Meringue pies and six waters,"Scott said.

Adam shook his head and collected the table menus.

Katelyn immediately turned back around to get the pies and water.

Minutes later she was beside the table and caught a bit of the conversation the family was having. Katelyn saw it was her son talking to the others. How long has it been since she has seen her babies? How could she forget her babies?

The Family

"So Luke,did you have a great day today?"Madeline asked while running her fingers through his short black hair.

"Yes Momma! I really liked the laser tag and the swing ride where we went in a big circle really fast. The best part was the birthday pancakes you made,"Luke said happily and hugged her.

Madeline giggled, hugged, and kissed the birthday boy on his forehead.

Scott noticed that Madeline didn't bat an eye when Luke called her Momma.

'I guess she is because she's been the only consistent positive mother figure in my children's life. Mrs.Madeline Callaghan sounds really nice,' Scott thought and then heard plates crashing to the ground.

The family turned to the noise.

A woman was on the ground picking up the mess. Adam came and placed the fresh pies he had on the table and then the ice cold waters next to everyone.

Scott and Madeline shared and the siblings shared their pie. The family continued to talk about their fun at Discovery Pizza.

15 minutes later

"Your ticket sir please take as much time as you need ,"Adam said and left.

"How much,"Madeline asked and reached for her bill folder.

"Ah not much. What are you doing? Didn't Luke tell you I was paying for everything and woman I am,"Scott said playfully and Madeline giggled.

"At least let me pay for something,"Madeline said.

Scott smirked and leaned forward in his spot. He looked around and the children were sleep.

"You can give me another kiss right here and all debt is paid,"Scott whispered and pointed to his cheek.

Madeline turned a bit red and gnawed her bottom lip. She shook her head and leaned forward to kiss his cheek. Scott turned his head to catch her lips on his.

"Ahem," a female voice was heard and broke up the kissing couple.

"Oh sorry. Ka-Katelyn is that you?"Scott asked after a bit taken aback.

Standing there was the woman he thought he was going to grow old with. She looked worse for wear. Her skin blotchy and greasy unlike how her skin use to be. She looked like she put some weight on which made her fill out her dirty waitress outfit. Her nails had chipped red fingernail polish that was in need of a repaint. Scott wanted to laugh because she swore up and down that her new life was going to be better than the one she had with him.

Scott grabbed Madeline's hand and rubbed the back of it.

"Your change sir,"Katelyn said with sadness in her voice.

"Uhm thanks,"Scott said and started to get out of his seat.

"Why her? Why did you make me out to be the bad guy? Huh? You were cheating on me as well! I should have asked for more money and my children. You good for nothing son of a bitch,"Katelyn said venomously.

Scott stood up and rolled his shoulders but heard a slap.

"You are the one that left , not him. You have been gone since Lucy was a baby. He didn't cheat on you that was all you. Us and our relationship was much, much later. You had your chance and you blew it,"Madeline said and turned to grab Lucy who was asleep at the booth close to her.

"You bitch! You was jealous of my marriage. You told me so when we were pregnant with our girls. How Scott was attentive to my every need,"Katelyn said with her arms folded across her chest.

"Well thanks for letting me know. Now I get to know firsthand how attentive my husband is since I'm carrying his child now. If you excuse me we have places to go,"Madeline said and walked out carrying Lucy.

Cody, Luke , and Scott was speechless. The boys were more confused but Scott was turned on. Scott picked up Lekki and made the boys go in front of him.

"Scott, wait please," Katelyn tried again.

"What Katelyn," Scott asked, turning around to face her.

"Can you loan me some money. Please! I'm trying to leave this place and go back home to my mother,"Katelyn whispered after stopping Scott from leaving the diner again.

Scott pushed his son and Cody out so he could talk to Katelyn semi privately. Scott looked down at Katelyn and turned to look out of the window at Madeline . Madeline motioned for him to come on.

"Here's a hundred that's all I have on me in cash. I can't help you with more. Please don't try and contact me or my family either,"Scott whispered and handed her the money.

"What the hell am I going to do with a hundred? Huh? I need more. Please three thousand dollars and I'm out of your hair,"Katelyn whispered and rubbed Scott's arm.

"Daddy, where's Momma?"Lekki asked sleepily and snuggled in Scott's shoulder.

Lekki continued to pretend to sleep. She didn't need Lucy's mom trying to worm her way back in their life. The siblings plan was working like a charm.

"I'm sorry but that's all I can do,"Scott said holding Lekki tighter.

"Scott please,"Katelyn whispered harshly.

"Is there a problem or something?" Seth asked, coming from the kitchen.

Seth had and heard enough. He wasn't going to lose his wife after getting her. Yes he may have twisted some truths and lies together to get the woman to leave her comfortable lifestyle.

He honestly thought the judge was going to award her children and alimony to her. He was hoping to live off of her money. But it didn't work out that way when Social Services made a statement that Katelyn was an unfit mother.

"Nope just leaving,"Scott said and left.

"Please come visit again,"Seth said and hugged Katelyn to his robust body.

Katelyn looked out the dusty and smeared window as the black suburban drove away with her family and replacement.

'I will be back beside you Scott. Just you wait,' Katelyn thought and went back to work.
