Chapter 7 Part seven

KACEY POV

Several days passed by and I couldn't stop thinking about Ronnie's words. They kept ringing in my mind taunting me day and night. Was I really that cruel to Elijah? Even if that was the case I had no idea that I was doing something wrong and forbidden I just thought that we were close.

"You've been too quiet Kacey is everything alright?" Elijah asked curiously.

I nodded quietly and forced a smile.

"Yes everything is fine. I'm just thinking about the day we'll have our first test. The mere thought just makes me nervous."

"You shouldn't worry about such things because I know that you're a very smart young woman and no matter what happens I'm sure that you'll do great."

He took out his laptop.

"Come on, let's get started. The professor will be here in a few minutes. We need to revise our notes."

I nodded quietly and took out my laptop until I heard someone slow clapping behind me.

I knew that it only meant trouble.

"Ah well well well it looks like the new girl is trying to fit in that laptop must be so expensive I wonder where she got the money."

I sighed deeply trying to restrain myself.

"From what I've heard she doesn't even come from a wealthy family and despite this she ended up here because she seduced the owner's son."

Elijah stood up ready to defend me but I stopped him.

"Kacey..."

I looked him in the eye.

"I can defend myself, you don't have to say anything to her."

I stood facing the girl.

"What are you trying to pick a fight with the most popular girl at Venus university?" She taunted.

"No I am not the kind of person who causes fights but since you're interested in my life so much the least you could have done is asked me to tell you the truth."

"You're right I don't come from a rich family but despite this I ended up here at the most expensive university in the world because of my brains."

"And one thing I only have this expensive laptop because my mother had to make a lot of sacrifices just to buy it for me."

Everyone remained silent.

"People won't feel pity for you just because you come from a poor background."

She grabbed my laptop.

"I wonder what would happen if I dropped it by mistake? Because I'm such a clumsy person sometimes."

"Diamond, stop it" Elijah warned.

"Give me back Kacey's laptop."

Before she could let go of my laptop someone caught it mid air before it could hit the ground.

It was Maxwell.

"You're supposed to be on my side!" Diamond yelled angrily.

Maxwell gave me back my laptop.

"Are you okay?"

I hugged my laptop to my chest and nodded quietly.

He looked at Diamond who was still fuming with anger.

"I have something to tell you Diamond."

"I'm breaking up with you."

Everyone began to whisper and Diamond glared at me.

"You're seriously breaking up with me because of a nobody like her!"

The professor walked in and all of us returned to our seats.

I knew that this wouldn't be the last time I would be seeing Diamond and I had a feeling that after this encounter she was going to make my life miserable.

During the lunch break Maxwell had followed me and he insisted that he had lunch with me.

"Are you trying to get me killed?" I asked while looking around.

"No, I'm here because I want to have lunch with you."

"Well Elijah is going to be here any second and he's not really your biggest fan especially after your girlfriend tried to break my laptop."

"She's my ex-girlfriend," Maxwell corrected.

Elijah soon joined us and gave me a puzzled look.

"What is Diamond's boyfriend doing at our table?"

"It's my ex boyfriend," Maxwell corrected.

"I don't care what your relationship status is, just leave our table."

"From what I know this school is for everyone and I can sit wherever I want."

"My father owns this school and I can get you expelled."

"Expelled? For sitting on a table that belongs to every student here."

"Can we just have lunch?"

They both stared at me and sat down.

LATER EVENING

Maxwell decided to escort me back to my room when I was coming from the library.

"You never told me that you had a male best friend."

I looked at him and smiled to myself.

"Well you never asked me."

"Okay well don't get me wrong but I think Elijah doesn't want me to spend time with you."

"Elijah has been like that since we were kids. He only wanted me to play with him."

"I guess it means he has loved you for a long time."

"Love?"

"Yeah I'm not that blind Kacey it's clear that he's madly in love with you that's why he didn't want me to sit with you during the lunch break."

"Ronnie said the same thing but I don't want things to change between Elijah and I. He's my best friend and I don't want to lose him."

"The party is tomorrow are you going to come?"

"I didn't want to go but Elijah and I made a deal that I would only go on one condition."

"And what's that condition?"

"Well I can't drink any alcohol."

"Why not?"

"It's a promise I made to my mother. I promised her that I wouldn't do anything reckless while I was here."

"You must really love your mother."

"Yeah she's the only family I have."

"I'll see you tomorrow at the party Kacey goodnight."

Maxwell gave me a peck on the cheek and walked away.

THE PARTY

"Are you seriously going to the party dressed like a tomboy?" Ronnie asked curiously.

"I don't like dresses, they are always so tight and itchy they make me feel uncomfortable."

"Well I'm not going to let you go to the party dressed like that, one of your boys has to notice you."

"One of my boy's?"

"Yes I mean Maxwell and Elijah since they are both crazy about you."

"Oh."

"Here try this on."

Ronnie tossed me one of her good dresses.

"This is too short."

She rolled her eyes at me.

"You haven't even tried it on."

I took the dress and went to change and a few minutes later I stepped out of the bathroom.

"I can't wear this."

"Kacey you look stunning."

"Come grab your purse and phone. Let's go, we are already running late."

"Seriously I can't go the party halfnaked."

"You're not half naked and secondly I'm not letting you take off such a beautiful dress. It suits you. I want you to keep it."

I wore my flat shoes and left with Ronnie who was practically dragging me outside.

A few minutes later we arrived at the party and the loud music welcomed us.

Once we were inside Ronnie and I took our seats.

"Stay right here I'll go get us some drinks."

I nodded quietly as I watched Ronnie disappear with the crowd.

"Kacey is that you?" A voice muttered from behind me and when I turned around I found Maxwell staring at me.

"Yeah."

"Wow you look amazing."

I could feel the heat in my cheeks.

"Thank you."

He had two drinks in his hand.

"You should have one."

"Thanks but Ronnie will be back with our drinks any minute."

"I don't think she's coming back any time soon because I just saw her having an argument with Res."

"Who's Res?"

"I think he's her boyfriend."

"So take the drink I promise it doesn't have any alcohol."

I took a small sip.

"It's not that bad, I actually like it."

Maxwell sat beside me.

After I finished my drink Maxwell invited me to the dance floor.

"I'm not a very good dancer."

He smiled at me.

"Take my hand and I'll guide you."

He placed his arms around my waist and pulled me closer.

"I need some fresh air."

Maxwell took me outside.

"It's more beautiful out here."

"Yeah I guess so but you still owe me that dance."

"So are you going to dance with me?"

He offered me his hand and I grasped it slowly.

Maxwell pulled me closer and took off my glasses.

"Hey I can't see without those."

"You shouldn't hide such beautiful eyes Kacey."

"This is the first time I'm seeing you with your hair down and you look very beautiful."

I looked away.

"I bet that you've used the same line with Diamond."

He smiled at me.

"Are you jealous?"

"No."

"Don't worry, I think it's cute."

He cupped one of my cheeks.

"What are you doing?"

"Is it okay if I kiss you?"

We both stared at each other lost.

"I can't seem to hold back my feelings anymore Kacey and it's driving me crazy."

"Every guy in the room keeps checking you out and I can't take it because I want you to myself."

"I know it's pathetic but I'm even jealous of Elijah."

"I thought you wanted to kiss me."

Maxwell pinned me against the wall, making me gasp.

His lips captured mine in a passionate kiss.
