Chapter 4 FIND THAT WOMAN

Voltaire's POV

The woman's sudden departure took me aback. For some reason, I was no longer comfortable in the room as soon as the door shut behind her. I decided to leave too.

I called my assistant and ordered him to bring me a set of new clothes.

After I hung up the phone, I stared blankly into space. I could still smell the woman's fragrance in the air. It was then I began to think of what happened last night.

I rubbed my temples to stop the splitting headache. It occurred to me that we both had too much to drink last night. And that was why everything went out of control.

The throbbing didn't stop, nor did the thoughts. I got up from the bed and was about to take a cold shower to calm down.

But I caught sight of something-a red stain on the white bed sheet.

I pursed my lips and stared at it. As I thought of how shy that woman had been last night and how she had insisted that she wasn't promiscuous, the realization hit me. I had wronged her greatly!

However, it was too late. She was gone and I didn't even get to know her name. She was just a one-night stand. And nothing more would happen between us.

Getting entangled with a woman I had sex with on our first night of meeting was the last thing I wanted to do now.

"Don't blame yourself, Voltaire. It doesn't matter if she feels wronged or not. Your paths won't cross ever again," I said in a bid to convince myself.

It was almost noon when I walked out of the hotel.

Immediately I got into the back seat of my car, I leaned back and closed my eyes to sleep. The naked figure of that strange woman suddenly appeared in my mind. What the hell!

I opened my eyes irritably and put down the partition in the car.

My assistant, George, turned his head and asked, "Sir, can I help you?"

"Play some music for me."

"Okay, sir."

Just as George was about to turn on the stereo, my phone vibrated in my pocket. I gestured for him to hold on and took out my phone. The call was from the nanny.

Hazarding a guess as to why she was calling me at this time, I frowned.

"Cancel the meeting for this afternoon and drive straight to the kindergarten."

After giving that order, I clicked on the receive icon on my phone screen. The nanny's worried voice immediately came from the other end of the phone.

"Sir, Cedric has made trouble again."

"All right. I'll handle it," I said and hung up.

When I arrived at the gate of the kindergarten, the headmistress was waiting at the gate. She invited me to her office.

The first person I saw as soon as I entered the office was Cedric. He was a mess. There was dirt all over his face. His hair was rough and a huge chunk of it seemed to be stuck together by something.

"Daddy!" Cedric gave me a big smile. He looked cute and his set of teeth was neat and white. However, he looked a little funny because one of his front teeth was missing.

Instead of smiling back at him, I looked at Charlotte, who was sobbing beside him. Her eyes were puffy and red, so I knew she had been crying for a long time. She looked up at me and said sadly, "Daddy."

She then continued to cry her eyes out. Her nose was running at the same time.

It ached my heart to see them like this.

I strode to Charlotte and picked her up. "Baby, don't cry. Tell me, who bullied you?"

"It's Tom. He ate up all her strawberry cake!" Cedric grabbed my trousers and led me to a boy who had bruises on his face. "Daddy, this is the boy. Beat him up!"

"Don't you have hands? If you are strong enough, fight me instead of asking for your daddy's help!" Tom yelled and glared at him.

"You can call your daddy too!" Cedric taunted him with his hands on his hips. "Ha-ha! You are just jealous because I have a daddy, but you don't!"

"Nonsense! I have my daddy! He just went far away for something very important. I also have a mommy, but you don't have one. Your mommy abandoned you!"

"Shut up!"

When I saw that the two kids were ready to bicker to no end, I weighed in and scolded, "Enough, Cedric."

Cedric immediately stopped going at the boy and stood still obediently.

Tom made a face at him; Cedric snorted and ignored him. He then walked rapidly to a sofa with his short legs and sat down in a fetal position. Throughout my meeting with the headmistress, he didn't say a word. He remained mute until we got in the car and drove home.

The car stopped in front of a magnificent villa after a short ride. Cedric got out of the car in a hurry and rushed towards the house.

At this time, the nanny was watering the flowers in the garden with her glasses on. She had no idea that Cedric was coming, and he knocked her down. The watering can flew off her hands and fell on the flowers.

I frowned and walked to them with Charlotte in my arms.

"Daddy, please don't be mad at Cedric. He didn't bully Tom. It was Tom who asked for trouble. He stole my cake and ate it. Not only that, he also stuck gum on Cedric's hair. Now it won't come off." Charlotte leaned on my shoulder and whispered to me.

"Oh, I see." I muttered, patting her head.

"I secretly put a spider in Tom's drawer. He will be scared to tears tomorrow!" Charlotte chuckled and winked mischievously. She also clapped her hands as she jubilated.

This child never ceased to amaze me. I was so shocked by her vengeful mind that I became speechless.

"But I am still very sad. I didn't get to eat my cake." Charlotte started to cry again.

I didn't know how to console her now.

Raising the twins had been tough for me. Ever since their mother, Melissa disappeared, Cedric and Charlotte changed a lot.

Cedric became too troublesome. He was always getting into trouble at the kindergarten. I couldn't count how many times I had to set work aside and go to the kindergarten because he got into a fight with someone or behaved mischievously toward his teachers. On the other hand, Charlotte didn't get into any fights, but crying was her new hobby. She cried every day.

It was obvious that they needed maternal love. I tried my best to be with them, but my efforts didn't make up for their mother's love and attention.

Cedric was already sitting on the sofa by the time I got into the living room.

"Daddy, I have to tell you again that I miss my mommy!" he blurted out with displeasure.

He then crossed his legs and folded his arms over his chest like a displeased adult. As if he was waiting for my answer, he looked at me with narrowed eyes.

"Me too! I miss Mommy!" Charlotte wasted no time expressing her feelings. She sadly echoed her brother. "Daddy, Cedric and I need our mommy. We want to see her now. Why don't you use some magic to bring her back?"

I smiled bitterly.

There was a logical explanation for why I couldn't bring back their mother. However, Cedric and Charlotte were only kids so they wouldn't understand. I decided not to respond. After putting Charlotte down, I looked at my son's messy hair and said, "Come on, Cedric. Let me fix your hair first."

Cedric's eyes immediately turned red and he frowned at me deeply. "No, leave me alone! If you don't bring Mommy back to us, I will never wash my hair!"

He jumped off the sofa and ran away. He was so fast that he disappeared from the living room before I could think of catching him.

Charlotte didn't follow in her brother's footsteps. Instead, she looked up at me eagerly. I felt sorry for her.

"Good girl, please go and find your brother," I requested, ruffling her hair affectionately.

Charlotte nodded and left.

"Melissa, Melissa, Melissa!" I plopped on the sofa, rubbed my nose bridge, and murmured my wife's name helplessly. At this moment, the woman who had a striking resemblance to my wife came to my mind again.

I sat up and called George. "Find that woman."

"Eh? What woman, sir?"

"The woman who looked exactly like Melissa that was at the bar last night," I replied sharply.
