Chapter 6 Shift

_What is that annoying sound?

I raised my head hardly from the bed, extended my hand to turn off the alarm, than turned to lie on my back, watching the ceiling. It's a beautiful ceiling.

"You're really going to do this again."

I quickly got up hearing a voice and turned around looking around the room

who spoke now

"Gosh"

I furrowed my eyebrows as I thought of yesterday's events, Matthew, my she-wolf, the pack , Alpha.

I looked at the calendar to see a big x , my eighteenth birthday is tomorrow,

I'm going to practice shifting today. I jumped out of bed quickly but as usual I fell on my nose,I rolled my eyes at my wolf's incessant laughter.

I pulled the covers off and ran to the bathroom. I quickly took a shower and wrapped a towel around me and the other around my hair. I went to the closet, grabbed my jeans, a white shirt and sneakers. I slowly got dressed and headed outside, but the sound of my wolf stopped me.

"Towel you idiot"

I laughed lightly and pulled the towel off my head, fiddling with my hair to tidy it, then I hurried down the stairs and found my mother in the kitchen preparing breakfast.

_good morning

She turned to me with a wide smile and approached, grabbed my face and kissed my cheek

_Good morning to the sweetest girl, I see that you woke up early today

I laughed lightly

_Of course I'll get up early I'm really looking forward to doing my first shift

I left her and went to the dining table, jumping happily, and the sound of my mother's laughter echoing behind me

I sat in my place waiting for everyone as my mother brought the dishes so I got straight again to help her prepare the table ,after few minutes and my father, Matthew and my brother were all at the table

My mom sat next to my dad on the right, and I was next to her, Max in front of me, and Matthew in front of mom

_I see someone woke up early today

Dad spoke jokingly so I blow faking annoyance as Max's sarcastic laughs

_I need to get used to it.

max replied while acting shock to my statement

_I can't believe it , who are you and what have you done to my sister ?

I threw a napkin at his face because he is making me look like a lazy girl in front of Matthew, and I don't want to.

_Come on finish your breakfast so we can go to the forest

I shifted my gaze between them all nervously, eager, yes, but very nervous. I know that the first shift is very painful. My mother patted my hand tenderly.

_Don't worry, we will all be with you

I slowly nodded at her and looked at the plate in front of me. I ate my breakfast in silence. My father finished his breakfast first, so he got up and headed to his room, then my mother followed him.

After few minutes I put my spoon down and started to move the dishes to the kitchen after Matthew and Max got out to wait in the car.

I picked up the last plate and put it in the kitchen and went out.

_Take a deep breath, Eva, and picture your wolf in your mind

I closed my eyes to do what my dad said .I took a deep breath to clear my mind of everything and imagined mixa with her pure white fur

after few seconds, I felt a huge pain all over my body, I quickly bent down and screamed, feeling my bones breaking one by one.

I clenched my fist on the dirt beneath me and bit my lip to stop my screaming.

I let out a gasp when my ribs broke again. I felt a hand on my head and the pain eased a little, but I closed my eyes hard as I felt my bones rearranging themselves.

Seconds and everything disappeared I opened my eyes to see my father standing in front of me and my mother next to him and Matthew and Max I tried to talk but all that came out of me was a few grunts

I looked down and I saw two paws instead of my hands , my eyes were wide open , it worked, I shifted, but it's like when Mixa took control, I'm just watching.

I felt her shake her head and move towards my father and bend her head, and he raised his hand and passed it through her fur as she purr with pleasure.

I laughed lightly at her behavior, I saw my mother walking forward as well and passing her hand as well

_You are very beautiful

Mixa stood arrogantly at my mother's words and I rolled my eyes

"arrogant"

"Of course, look at my beauty, cat."

She started jumping happily, allowing the breezes to pass through her fur, so I spoke

"Come on run, wolf."

She didn't wait another second to start running , well I admit she is so fast and it feels so good to feel free

I really don't want to know how she suffered so long locked up I felt her slow down a bit and I cought a glimpse of my father's dark brown wolf next to me and my mother with her light brown wolf and Max behind them with his gray wolf and another wolf that must have been Matthew

I saw Max running beside me as mixa hit him playfuly

"" I told you my wolf is faster than your wolf ""

he Replied to me arrogantly

""" Really let's see.To the lake """"

Mixa shook her head to accept the challenge and increased her speed and set out for the lake

I laughed with enjoyment when she got there. she went to the lake to drink water. I could tell that she looked just like the dream I had seen. Her eyes are very beautiful blue. She raised her head arrogantly again, I said while rolling my eyes.

"Remind me to never complimente you again."

"You will"

She shook her head and layed next to a tree and put her head between her front pows.

I closed my eyes as well to rest a little and clear my mind I felt their arrival but I didn't bother to open my eyes.as mixa stayed lying down, I felt my father trying to talk to me so I let him

""" We'll go home and leave you with your wolf. Don't be late """"

I felt them leave so I relaxed and let Mixa do whatever she wanted.

Hours passed while she was lying beside the lake and I did not complain. The weather is really nice and the breezes comfort the soul, but this calmness was disturbed by the sound of breaking branches. My wolf quickly got up and sniffed trying to find a scent.

But there was nothing. She slowly walked trying to find the source of the voice .I spoke in whisper, even though no one would hear me

"Beware"

We heard the sound again, and mixa quickly ran towards the direction of the sound

I didn't know what she was chasing until I saw the deer running in front of us. I watched her jump and put her fangs around its neck and drop it to the ground.

It moved a little, and her fangs tightened even more until it died, and her fangs slowly moved away from its neck.

" close your eyes "

She told me and I did it fast I don't want to see how she's gonna eat this thing.

As for her, she pounced on the deer with hunger. I did not comment. I knew that she wanted to do everything that the barrier prevented her from, so I left her the comfort of acting.

She ran , jumped and chased every living creature she saw for hours. I was amazed that she isn't tired yet.

"I've been locked up for years, I want to make up for it all."

"I know but don't stress yourself out. Tomorrow is a big day. I don't want to look bad in front of our pack."

"It's almost sunset, let's watch it from the top of the hill and go home."

"you got it"

As soon as she heard my answer, she ran happily jumping on the rocks with ease until she reached the top

She slowly advanced the edge and sat on her back legs to watch the beauty of this view

How does the sun disappear, leaving dazzling and breathtaking colors?

I felt Mixa shake her head and then howled to spread a feeling of happiness in the bond between us

I laughed with joy as we watched the sun disappeares leaving a black sky
