Chapter 3 3.3 Think about the offer

Walking out of the third company for the day, Estella could not help but keep a long face. Worst still, she didn't still get the job and it's getting her freaked out. All 7 organizations want a person with three years of experience. Even when she knows that she is at least supposed to be experienced, making it 7 years is too much.

After all, she doesn't really have to do much. But staying jobless and extremely broke for two months can bring the best and worst out of any poor person like her. She can't even remember when she had a good meal if not for bread and anything else that seems edible. Her gadgets already need repair and she had run out of groceries for a long.

"Track clients, Remind boss of his meetings, take his calls, be nice" Estella recited with a fake smile as she walked down the road and flagged a taxi "This is all too much" she sniffed angrily "How do a three-year-old company want someone with 7 years experience?"

A few seconds after, the car stopped in front of her as she pulled the handle angrily and sat down. Her confused gaze kept moving from the driver's mirror to the back of his head. Her tongue ran over her lower lips as she kept opening and closing her mouth like a goldfish.

"What's your destination, Ma'am," the taxi driver said matching her surprised manner.

"Oh!" Estella blinked "Uhmm..." She trailed off "Just take me to anywhere 5$ would get me" She grimed "I am so broke right now and I need to go home"

She paused for another brief second as she studied the man's clueless face. Slowly with a sad face, she attempt to open the door before being stopped.

"Where do you live?" He asked.

"12a Pinewood street, Greenville" Estella replied "I know it's far that's why I said you should just drop me where I meet" she shrugged.

The driver looked more confused than sad watching Estella talk nervously without stopping. Many times he tried to talk but she just comes up with another long talk.

"I can get you to your house for free" The man half-shouted. His brows connected as Estella began to blink back tears "Just for a small price" he added.

"If you are planning to get into my pants, I bet I can walk all the way home" She snapped as she pushed the door open and walked out.

She was fussing like a kid, good thing the wind was friendly if not, she might as well have her lazy self been pushed by the wind. Her empty stomach kept making awful sounds making her want to just vanish into the thin air and never be seen again.

Estella ignored the man as he got out of the car and began to run after her. At first, she freaked out, and having to meet someone as inwardly irritating as Mc Call made her want to punch him right on the nose.

"Move on!" She said "I can just drop my bag and scream that you were trying to steal from me"

"You have just 5$ in your bag, And you say you are broke? That's a hell good amount to take you home and get you lunch too" The taxi driver said in surprise.

The honesty in his voice made Estella stop for a moment as she smacked her lips and looked around as if checking if someone was watching her. She opened her mouth and then closed it back without saying a word before moving her fingers through her hair.

"I have no money at all" Estella sighed "I was going to dupe you" she lowered her head.

Waiting for a second or more and didn't hear anything from the driver, she looked up at him to find him staring at her in pity. A moment ago she was about to cry now here she is, rolling her eyes like they would fall off.

"Fine!" Estella scoffed "I don't want that pathetic look or have someone feel pity for me!!!" she dampen her eyes with her thumb in a way that it won't ruin her light makeup "Just go away! If I walk for just one hour I won't die" she added.

Immediately she said it, The driver just shrugged and walked back to his car. It was the least that she had expected as all that she had wanted was the man to take her home. Normally, she had been wondering how she would walk these long and survive. Maybe by the time she gets to her apartment, her legs would be 10 inches shorter.

The taxi driver didn't even spare her one look as he got into his car and closed the door. The sound of the car starting broke Estella's heart as she let the burning tears flow freely.

If only she died with her parents, nothing like this would have happened. Or if they had survived, she would have been at school, studying counseling and psychology. At the early age of 21, getting into trouble had been part of her life since she began to run off her foster homes.

Countless times, she had told herself not to expect anything from anyone and where it had gotten her.

"Hop in sugar!"

Estella looked to see that the taxi had driven close to her. The window remain down as the man stretched to open the front door for her. He smiled at her hesitation before pointing at the back.

"Can take the back if you are scared of me" He grinned "By the way I am Norman" he added with a cute smile.

The way Norman's bright and perfect set of teeth shone seems way more tempting than staring at a box of chocolate cake when fasting. Estella shook her head clear before holding her bag to her chest and clearing her throat awkwardly.

"It's Estella, but I have nothing to offer," Estella said "Just move on" she added as she began to walk away.

Even when every of her pathetic weak muscles is begging her to swallow whatever she has in her throat, Estella just doesn't want to comply.

She ignored as Norman drives slowly beside her, keeping her slow steps.

"You must be stressed after trying to apply as the personal assistant" Norman said "I can help you"

Something inside her wants to freak out about having a stalker but she feels too exhausted to notice.

"You are way much the likes of following him all about and get occupied with work" Norman continued "I mean no harm" he added with a nervous smile.

After contemplating for a fast few seconds, Estella grabbed the front door handle and pulled it open. Nervously, she made herself feel comfortable while her hurting feet urges her to take off her heels.

"You are a weirdo," Estella said in shock "Do you stalk people or want to know about me before selling me out?" She asked calmly.

The fact that Norman kept staring at her blankly made her so freaked out but at the same time, the level of her calmness even when she gnash her teeth made it unable for Norman to suppress his laugh.

"I work there," Norman said with a bored expression "It's not really a significant post but, I think it's okay than being jobless and I don't really go to work" he smiled "I saw how you were acting when you were been Interviewed and I instantly knew what would be good for you"

Norman waited for a while to hear something from Estella but she didn't make a sound. She just sat still with a faint frown on her tired face, frankly, one can't tell of she is tired, angry, scared, or just confused.

Since she had still refused to say anything, he started the car and began to drive to the address Estella had told him before. A faint smile spread across his face as he realized Estella had taken him for a taxi man. Even if she couldn't get that his car was a private yellow and white color car, he doubt if his look made him also look like one.

"Besides, I am not a taxi man," He said "I am trying the company's to see how modest it looks and thanks to you, I know it looks like a taxi" he wiggled his brows.

The best part of the ride was silent as Norman drove. His lips moved as he chew inside of it nervously, he did make sure to steal several looks from her as he patiently waits for her answer but none came.

"I have a little experience in acting as I use to do commercials and Tv series long ago," Estella said suddenly "I stopped for more than a year now" she swallowed saliva.

It didn't take long for them to find themselves in Estella's neighborhood. With a sad look on Estella's face in which Norman felt was because of the notice posted on her door.

"Thanks" she muttered as she rushed out of the car.

Well, that was all she could say as she walked fast to her door and tear the paper off. Even when she had read the paper over and over again she still doesn't want to believe that she is getting kicked out for owing three months' rent.
