Chapter 2 The missing father

After that night, they don't see each other again.

Both Adelia and Elias rushed to study like crazy. The future is vital to them, so each exam dramatically influences the future.

When Elias met Adelia again, it was already half a month later. That was when they had just finished the exam.

Seeing the small figure of Adelia in the schoolyard, he immediately ran over.

''Adelia, wait for me.''

Elias looked at the girl standing in front of him and laughed until his eyes were full.

''Can you do your homework just now?''

''Also temporary.''

Adelia coldly replied. After hearing this, Elias vaguely felt that there was something wrong with Adelia today. Her eyes weren't as bright as usual. Today, my friend wears a white dress and looks very gentle and beautiful, but he still feels different from before.

Only the fifteen-year-old boy didn't think so much. Those thoughts were thrown to the back of his mind a few seconds later.

Thinking about his well-done exam, Elias's mood naturally improved slightly. In his head now, he only ran through the words "Going out, going out, going out."

''Adelia, the exam is over anyway, let's go somewhere to celebrate. Grandma cooks well, or you can go home to help her cook some dishes."

When Adelia heard the two words "grandmother", his mood was a little agitated, and her face suddenly turned pale.

''Can not.''

Elias, who was happily listening to her say that, was startled and turned to look at her with blurry eyes.

Adelia's mood is not good at the moment, so he doesn't have time to care about whether to explain or not. Now she just wanted to go home to her grandmother.

''Elias, or leave it for another day. I'm busy today, goodbye.''

After saying that, Adelia hugged his bag and ran away. She left her friend, who was still standing there dumbfounded. Elias looked at her body a little funny. If you don't go, don't go, anyway, there's no need to be in such a hurry. He scratched his head and walked towards his house.

In a small apartment.

This apartment only had Adelia and his grandmother, and from time to time, Elias came to play. Besides, no one came to play at home. But for some reason, today, the living room has more than two people.

Is a man and a woman. Everyone exudes a scent of 'money', dressed unobtrusively but luxuriously.

The two of them and their grandmother sat across from each other on the sofa. The man was calm and sickly; the other woman seemed to be a lawyer sitting next to him.

''Mom, now that you're old, you don't have much health left to care for Adelia. So it's time for you to pick it up."

Grandma frowned after hearing that. She was not intimidated by this man's aura from beginning to end.

''Richard Smith, I already said it. Adelia has been with me for many years, raising him from a young age to adulthood. You and his mother are not responsible, but I am. For a long time, I considered myself without a daughter; Adelia, from childhood to adulthood, did not know who her parents were. So it is best to leave it as it is now."

The opposite man was still listening to her silently, not intending to interrupt. She paused for a moment, then opened her mouth to continue.

''I know you understand what I'm saying. So give up the idea, don't come here to spend your grandchildren with me. At most, you and I go to court; a lawyer you can hire, I can also invite. Are you so bad that you come here to make it difficult for an old woman like me?"

After listening, Richard Smith remained silent.

After a while, he slowly opened his mouth.

"Can you still have the strength to take care of her after the first year of high school or not, still rely on heaven?"

Grandma's face paled in an instant. Richard Smith continued.

''You understand what I'm saying, don't you? I heard that my mother has lung cancer, and it's still in the final stages. How long can mom live? One month, three months, six months, or a year? Mom, not to mention the medical expenses, taking care of Adelia is already impossible."

Richard Smith said as he pushed the medical record in front of his grandmother.

Grandma's face was unbelievable; it took a long time to adjust to calm herself. She couldn't believe that Richard Smith had even prepared this.

She tiredly leaned on the sofa; she seemed to have lost this chess game.

When Richard Smith saw the older woman like that, he felt a little bitter, but it was quickly hidden. They remained silent, no one said anything, and no one noticed the beautiful girl who had already lost any blood at the door.

Adelia covered his mouth with both hands, making himself speechless.

Her grandmother, however, has lung cancer. Moreover, it is still in the terminal stage.

Adelia had come home from school early, and she had heard all the conversations. Other things she didn't care about, who was her father and mother, she didn't need to know or maybe didn't want to know. But it was her grandmother's health that shocked Adelia the most.

Adelia covered his mouth, stood at the door, and finally couldn't help but sob. Everyone in the room heard it and looked outside the door.

Adelia ran to hug his grandmother. Her tears flowed.

''Grandma, are you sick? Moreover, it is also terminal cancer."

Grandma hearing her granddaughter worry about her is both warm and heartbreaking. She reached out and patted Adelia's head.

"No, this disease is curable; it only takes a year."

''Really. But why do you say cancer can't be cured? It's the same on the internet."

''Nonsense. Who said it couldn't be cured? As long as she rests in peace, she will be cured. It only takes a year, so I can't take care of you during this time. I'm going to live with my father.''

Grandma seemed to remember something and repeated it suddenly.

''Oh, I forgot, this is your father, Richard Smith, you are her son-in-law, and you call her mother a mother, and I call him a father.''

Adelia looked dimly at Richard Smith.

When he saw his daughter looking at him, he was overjoyed. As he was about to open his mouth, he heard Adelia's voice.

''This is your father, your mother, where are her mother and daughter.''

"Your mother is dead; he died ten years ago."

Grandmother's face did not change color. Richard Smith was a bit surprised by her answer. He didn't believe that she could be this heartless either.

Grandma considered her daughter dead; even when I asked her, she was not salty and said, "Your mother is dead."

After listening to Adelia, he did not ask or doubt anything because she has no memory of this mother. As for the father sitting in front of his eyes, it feels even more strange.

Richard Smith just opened his mouth now, he said softly.

''Adelia, tomorrow I will pack my clothes and come live with you. Can you rest assured that you can go to the hospital for a medical examination?"

Adelia didn't think much of it, so he refused. Of course, her grandmother was sick; she had to be by her side to take care of her; how could she leave like that.

The aunt looked at her grandchild like that and felt a little warm, but she also opened her mouth to refuse this heart of the little girl.

"You should still follow your father. Can you come back to me when Grandma is cured?"

Grandma said while stroking Adelia's hair. Eyes involuntarily reddened. Adelia looked at it and panicked.

''Grandma, don't cry; I'll go with him. Will obey; when she comes back, please take me home."

The little girl happily told her grandmother; she put out her little finger and hooked it.

''This kid, you're about to go to high school, and still so childish. Okay, when the disease is cured, I will return and take the child home."

Grandma also reached out and hooked her little finger.

Seeing the two of them talking to each other can't help but make people sad. The secretary, who was always silent, also turned her face to the other side because of the tears. Richard Smith's mood also gradually became heavier, especially when he saw the other hand hook.
