Chapter 5 Bitter Truth

As night fell, faint darkness gradually enveloped the whole place. The stars appear dim and then clear. Soon the moon began to shine, round like a silver tray in the clear, deep sky.

She sat crouched on the couch in the living room. Until now, Jacob has not come here. The whole large house with her alone. She feels unsafe.

The sound of the car stopping in front of the gate, then the sound of a car running into the garage next door.

She quickly stood up. Did he go home? As she expected, the door to the house opened, and then he walked in. Jacob stopped in front of the house, he took off his black shoes and changed into slippers. After that, he looked over at her. Every movement exudes deliberate steps.

"You are back."

"Uhm." He replied coldly and went straight upstairs leaving her standing there alone.

When he passed her, Samantha could smell the alcohol on him. He must be just returned from his business trip. She didn't know how much alcohol he drank. He looked tired.

He was the only person she trusted, so she was worried about him unconsciously.

Samantha was about to make some tea for Jacob. She went into the kitchen. But this large kitchen made her a bit confused, the things she needed she didn't know where, so she kept rummaging around in the kitchen.

"Bang"

From upstairs, he had just loosened his tie and was about to change when he heard a crash from downstairs.

What's the matter? He was very tired. The shrill sound made him feel extremely frustrated.

Jacob walked downstairs. He followed the stairs and looked into the kitchen. He just saw Samantha sitting and picking up pieces from the kitchen.

"What are you doing?" His voice was filled with boredom.

Samantha was startled, carelessly being cut in the hand by a fragment.

"I'm...I'm so sorry." She mumbled.

Seeing his unhappy expression, she shook her head in fear.

"I didn't do it purposely." She continued.

"What are you doing in the kitchen?"

"I... I saw you drinking... so I wanted to make some tea for you... but I looked everywhere and couldn't find any honey." She replied with a sad face.

"There is no honey in the house. If there is anything, just ask me." He still responded coldly.

"I just want you to be more comfortable."

"No need, thank you. You just make me more tired."

"I'm so sorry." She lowered her head.

Jacob said nothing more. He left the kitchen. Samantha saw this, bent down, and continued to clean up the broken dish. At this time, she realized that her finger was bleeding, and the pain was now gradually appearing.

She also did not dare to ask him where the medicine box was, so she could only wash the wound and then hold her finger tightly to stop the bleeding. Then she continued to clean up.

Jacob returned to his room. He was lying on the bed, closing his eyes slightly.

Many times when he looked at her face, he couldn't help but think of the other person. But he knew that all her actions and actions were different from that of that person. He could see her concern for him.

However, he still couldn't help but have a hostile attitude. It's like discovering that the food he always eats has the same taste, and one day, the same food but the taste has changed. Although it is more delicious or something, he still remembers the old, still feels unfamiliar.

Samantha finished cleaning, then returned to her room. She tried to go quietly, not wanting to disturb him anymore. According to the driver, his room was opposite hers. It meant that he was now only one door away from her, and one lobby.

But why did she see the distance between the two of them as too far?

In the end, what happened in her memory? She could completely feel his attitude towards her, unlike any other soon-to-be-married couple. Or was she and he forced to marry?

She immediately pushed the thought out of her head. According to him, she was just an ordinary girl, without parents, who could only rely on him, so how could it be called be forced? So what is the reason, then? Or was it because she did something wrong so he hated her so much?

Thousands and thousands of questions kept popping up in her head, it made Samantha feel like she was choking. She opened the door to the room and sat on the unfamiliar bed. Samantha crouched down and looked out the window.

Today the weather is very beautiful, the full moon shines everywhere, and the light gives her a feeling of coldness and loneliness.

When will she be able to regain her memories? When will she be able to live like before? Because now she feels like she is living someone else's life.

Suddenly, at the moment, the lightning sound ripped through a cloud suspended in the air. Rain poured from the center of the cloud. The wind blew through the rain, bringing undulating white waves that danced to the rooftop. The rain came down to refresh the wilting sunflowers and the rice plants, which were hanging their heads to the ground due to the heat. Young leaves are clinging to gray dust and look old and have been washed with rainwater to make them new. The early spring buds were succulent and iridescent. The sunflowers had raised their heads with yellow faces. The vegetable gardens reeked of the honey scent of flowering pumpkins. The land that was drunk was thirsty and evaporated with no rest.

Other than that, the rain showed no sign of stopping, but her memories of the past seemed to have dissipated like smoke. Memories are too far away. It's only a pity that the rain now is merely raindrops trying to hug the sleeping city...
