Chapter 6 Episode 6: Lies

Chapter 6.

Charlotte watched as Clara disappeared into the woods while staring in the direction that she took.

"Charlotte!" Melony called again as she walked up to where she was standing.

"Come on, what the hell are you still doing here? Your mom is worried sick about you" she whined when she saw Charlotte.

"And what are you staring at? Your Highness?" She asked.

"Oh, nothing. Nothing at all" Charlotte turned and started walking out of the woods. Melody stood there, looking in the direction that Charlotte was recently staring at. She wondered if someone or something was there.

She shrugged and hastened her footstep to meet the pace of Charlotte that was walking to the castle. They parted ways as Charlotte walked to the royal dining hall while Melony took the opposite direction.

She was still walking when someone dragged her to a shade as she did her magic and the person flew and hit the wall.

"Oh, dad! I am so sorry! I did not know that it was you!" Melony quickly apologized as he picked himself from the ground and started dusting his body.

"Soon, child. You would be sorry for yourself!" He scowled as she faced down, without looking up at her father's face.

"What is happening? How are the twins doing?" He quickly questioned as he stretched his neck?

"The future Queen is growing in strength every day. And she is getting better at every magic she did. Today she was able to consume thousands of logs!" She explained.

"That is good" he nodded.

"And her twin? What's up with her?"

"She believes that she is useless and nowhere in strength near the future Queen. She performed really badly at today's training.

"Very nice!" He nodded again.

"Has it been made known to her that she younger twin would be crowned Queen instead of her?" He questioned.

"Not yet. Queen Ursula said that she would have to do that" Melony responded as her dad turned her back at her.

"The Queen better be fast about it. I do not want complications when it is time to crown the Queen" he said and turned to look at her.

"And you, keep a close eye on the future Queen. If you can secretly give her lectures behind the required training time, do it! Am I understood?"

"Yes, father" she bowed.

"You may go!" He commanded as she took a step to leave but he quickly called her back.

"Wait!" She halted at the spot without turning back to look at her dad.

"Have you started whispering to the white stone that she would soon be Queen?"

She turned to look at her father this time before responding.

"Yes, father. But I asked her to keep it a secret from her sister until it was made official! I also told her that that is why she has to train more and be stronger than her sister so that she could finally claim the throne" She explained as her dad nodded.

"You have done well, Melony. I did not do wrong for choosing you for this important task" he said and finally dismissed her. She took a bow and left as he heaved a sigh of relief.

"Soon" he muttered, smiling one-sidely.

Charlotte walked to the dining, she stopped at the door and peeped through, she saw that her family was seated, waiting for her.

Immediately she appeared in the hall, Chloe huffed.

"It is about time!" Chloe blurted out and picked a dry bread from the plate, she broke it and dipped it in a cup of wine, and started chewing.

"I am famished after that long and hectic training today! What took you so long?" She kept chewing as Charlotte walked to her seat which was next to Chloe's and opposite her mom while Chloe was sitting opposite her father, Lucas.

"I am sorry that I have to make you guys wait so long," she said and removed the strand of had from her face and shove it at the side of her left ear.

The royal servants walked to the hall and started dishing out the food to their plates, when they were done, they left, leaving just the royal family to themselves.

"How was training today, kids?" Their mother asked as Chloe squeaked excitedly.

"We learned about fire-making today!" Chloe began.

"Oh, mom! Dad! You should have watched me perform some magic! Even Melony said that I was getting stronger by the day! You heard her, right Charlotte?" Chloe said excitedly.

"Yes, I did" Charlotte said and sighed.

"Wow! That is quite fantastic Chloe. Keep it up, okay?" Their mom said

"Yes, mom" she said and started eating the grapes.

Lucas watched as Charlotte was repeatedly picking on her food without saying anything.

"How about you, Charlotte, how did yours go?" He asked her.

"Fine, I guess" she said without looking up at any of them.

"Charlotte could not even make a simple flame of fire!" Chloe said and made her pinky finger lit up with fire as her mom and dad exchanged glances and smiled at each other.

They were glad that Chloe was growing stronger and would not disappoint as the future Queen.

"I believe as time goes by, Charlotte would be as strong as Chloe" their mom said.

"Psst! I wish!" Chloe mumbled under her breath and rolled her eyes as they began to eat their food in silence.

"Mom, dad?" Charlotte called out as their parents looked up at her.

"Yes, darling?" Her mom said.

"Can I ask a question, please?"

Lucas and Ursula exchanged looks before they turned to face Charlotte who was intently staring back at them while Chloe was busy munching on the grapes as they were her favorite.

"Of course, darling. You can ask anything" her mom responded.

"Okay, thanks." She sighed and dropped the fork that she was playing with on her plate while her mom took a cup of wine and was drinking slowly from it.

"Why are we not allowed to perform our magic In the night?" She dropped the bombshell as Ursula got shocked and she had to pour out the wine in her mouth that ended up choking her.

Lucas quickly passed her the cup of water which she drank and hit her chest and properly cleared her throat.

"Are you okay?" He asked her as she nodded and dropped the cup of water on the table.

"Yes, I am fine now" she said and sighed and turned to Charlotte who was still staring back at her.

"Well, Charlotte. I have told you before that it is taboo for a witch to perform their magic in the night" She said.

"But why? Why is it forbidden?"

"Well, my child" she said wiping her hand with a hand towel as she had lost her appetite.

"It is because of the Dark Lord, have I told you about the Dark Lord before?" She asked as both kids shook their heads sideways.

She glanced at Lucas who was as confused as the kids. She winked at him as he quickly realized and nodded.

"Yes, the Dark Lord" he supported her.

"What about the Dark Lord?" Chloe was interested now.

"The Dark Lord would steal our powers if we perform our magic in the night. That is why you are not allowed to perform your magic in the night but it during the day" she lied as Charlotte nodded.

"Oh," that was all that she could say. She shrugged and picked her fork and started picking on her food again.

"Damn! I would never perform my magic in the night! I do not want the Dark Lord to take my powers!" Chloe declared as Ursula and Lucas glanced at each other and smiled.

"Mother, father, is there ever a way that I would be as strong as Chloe?" Charlotte asked.

"I guess if you practice" Chloe shrugged.

"Well, I have been practicing all my life" She protested.

"I guess that you are not doing it right"

"Well, show me a better way to do it"

"Girls!" Their mom intervened before they would go into a fight.

"Charlotte, " her dad called softly as she looked up.

"You would grow stronger when you grow old. You would be able to master your magic" Lucas said.

"And there is also a way that you can be as strong as Chloe!" Her mom said.

"Oh, really?!" Charlotte became immediately excited as Chloe quickly looked up at her parents.

"Yes" Their mom said and Lucas did not understand where she was going.

"Then how?"

"When your sister, Chloe is crowned Queen. She could make you stronger by giving you some of her powers" she spoke as Lucas finally understood what she was trying to do. Chloe smiled immediately.

"Chloe be Queen? But I am the older twin, why does she have to be the Queen?" She questioned as Lucas immediately looked up at Ursula who was not relenting.

"Because she is stronger. The coven needs a Queen that is strong enough to protect the Kingdom" she lied again.

"Oh, I see" Charlotte said and faced down as Chloe kept smiling.

"Can't she share her powers with me? Does she have to be Queen first?" Charlotte asked innocently.

"Yes dear, she has to be the Queen first before she can be granted the power to gift her other twin powers!" The Queen said calmly and Lucas wondered how she came up with all this all of a sudden.

"So, I would be strong when Chloe becomes Queen? Cool!" She said excitedly and glanced at Chloe.

"You would make me stronger when you become Queen?" Charlotte quickly turned and asked Chloe.

"Sure, I will. What are sisters for anyway? As soon as I am made Queen, the first thing I would do is to make you stronger!" Chloe announced as Charlotte smiled.

"Mom, dad! When would Chloe be made Queen?" Charlotte asked excitedly.

"On your 25th birthday," she spoke.
