CHAPTER 6

AURORA'S P.O.V

I entered my room and flung myself on the bed out of frustration. My head was spinning with anger, and my heart, racing like someone who just escaped from the hot chase of a beast in the bush.

I need to make a plan soon. No, I need to make a plan now. I've a few hours remaining before I would be compelled into choosing a mate for the Rut festival. And, that can't happen definitely, I haven't met any dragonman that can serve as my mate. I haven't met anyone that I'm attracted to. The only way I can escape from this whole trouble is by making an escape plan before tomorrow. Yes, an escape plan.

A plan on how I would escape from this whole callous tradition.

My thoughts were cut short by the announcement of the arrival of Jack, my cousin by my maids.

" Dragonman Jack O'Brien, Cousin to Our lady, Aurora O'Brien, arrives." Mabel, my chief maid and only human friend announces.

My annoyance speedily increases at his arrival,

" What the heck does he want here? " I said, asking myself in a low pitch voice.

He knocked on my door after the gate of my chambers had been opened for him by my maids.

" Hey Aurora, we need to talk. Open the door, it's me, Jack. " He said.

His voice alone was annoying, his pompousness is no different from that of a posturing peacock in a gallery. The way he said " open the door, it's me, " makes it sound like a command tone. I've always been annoyed by the sight of Jack since childhood even though he was my first friend and was slightly older than I was. He has the capability of ruining my mood because of his pompous attitude.

" What do we need to talk about? I need to take my rest. Let's talk, tomorrow, Jack. " I told him as I was trying to speak without letting my reply convey my ultmost annoyance.

" Please, Aurora. Let's talk now. It's your birthday and the 'Rut' festival, tomorrow. Tomorrow will be a very busy day. It has to be now. Please, open the door. " Jack pleaded.

Oh. Wow. What on earth did I just hear? Jack O'Brien? My cousin, the one whose ego is equal or rather higher, than that of a peacock, did he just plead with me to open the door? Wow, this is surprising .

I decided to open the door for him to listen to what he has to say. At least, he had put away his ego for a while, and pleaded with me.

I giggled wildly, stood up, straightened my hair, and went to open the door for my cousin. I offered him a chair in the outer room chamber, but he refused. He then walked into my innermost chamber, sat on my bed, and with a smile on his face, that smile that distinguishes pompousness, tapped the side of my bed, motioning that I sit near me.

" What the heck does he want," I began wondering.

I sat on the bed near him as he motioned, and he held my hand, surprisingly.

I became short of words, " why is he acting abnormally, " I wondered.

" Aurora, I've come to discuss a very important issue with you, " He began. " What do you think about making the O'Brien family one of the most powerful tribes in the dragon world? "

" Jack, oh my God. You're here again with your dreams. Are you here to talk about your endless overzealous dreams? " , I said to him because since childhood Jack has always been an ambitious person, he was always speaking about becoming a powerful person that controls thousands of armies. I felt he came to my room to tell me one of such dreams because of his opening words.

" No, Aurora. This is not an overzealous dream. It's real. It's a plan and we can bring it into existence starting from this night. It depends on the both of us. The future of the O'Brien tribe is in our hands. " Jack said, staring deeply into my eyes.

" Alright. I'm listening. What's your plan? " I said, rolling my eyes away from him.

" Here is my plan: The only way we can maintain our tribe's dignity and influence and then convert it into power, is by maintaining the tribe's power internally. Now, for this to happen, the heir to the throne of this tribe must be from the O'Brien family. If someone from this tribe becomes your mate, it would be easier for power to build up in this tribe, than an outsider would. You know that adage that says a tiller would always take care of his farm properly, it's the same case here, too. Do you get what I'm saying?" Jack explained.

I was starting to get confused with what he was explaining. To retain power, my mate has to be someone from this family? The realization of what he was proposing hit me and It sounded really funny to me.

" Wait, Jack. Are you saying that my mate has to be from this tribe? But you're the only remaining male in the O'Brien family. Does this mean you're thinking of being my mate? Of course, you know it's not possible, we're cousins! " I blurted out in disbelief.

Jack moved closer and said " it's possible, Aurora. It is very very possible. The fact that we're cousins doesn't matter. It doesn't count. We're from the dragon world, we're not humans. It's normal for related dragonmen to mate with each other. You can be my mate. Choose me as your mate, and I would respect your choices in the future when I'm on the throne. Trust me on this Aurora, let's join forces and ignite the power in the O'Brien tribe. Let's do this. "

As he spoke, he began slipping his hands into my clothes. His tender palm wrapped around my breasts, his second hand rubbing my inner thighs and my passion was beginning to rise. He was about nibbling my neck when I pushed him away. I couldn't let that happen, he's my cousin and I'm not interested in bringing forth the future generation with him or any other dragonman, as that was what our people cared about the most.

" No, Jack. No, we can't do this. We're related. You're my cousin, you can't be my mate. " I said, panting heavily.
