The head nurse was sitting at the station with a worried expression while looking over the roster for the rest of the week and especially the afternoon as two-afternoon nurses and a morning nurse called in sick for the rest of the week.

She raised her head and saw nurse Davidson passing by holding a catheter bag and a bluey, she signalled for him to come over.

'Paul would you be able to do a double tomorrow afternoon?' asked the head nurse.

'Sorry Jill, I have a family gathering tomorrow, stated nurse Davidson.

"that's alright, I thought I would ask you first, have you seen nurse Sullivan?" responded Jill.

'You mean Abby? Replied Paul with a sad expression before looking down.

"Yes Abby Sullivan, Jacqui Sullivan is still on maternity leave as you already know" replied Jill

Paul paused for a while with a concerned expression, deliberating on whether to tell Jill about Abby as he felt it wasn't his place to say something yet.

Jill noticed the look on his face and decided to ask him "Paul are you okay?"

Paul who was deep in his own thoughts and worries, raised his head with a confused look on his face and asked 'sorry did you say something?'

"I asked if you were, okay?" Jill repeated

'With a guilty expression, Paul said, 'I am okay, as for Abby she is on leave as of tomorrow, you will probably get an email regarding her leave, which has already been approved'

'Sorry Jill, I've got to go, Mr Kent is waiting for a catheter change before Jill could reply, Paul had already started walking away.

Jill called out to him "how long is she gone for?"

'I don't know' paul replied as he disappears around the corner.

Jill with a frustrated look on her face, picked up her phone as she dialled Abby's Number

She waited and waited but her call only reached the voicemail, she called again and still no answer.

She then walked over to the phone at the nursing station and dialled *33750*

*Ring Ring Ring*

"Emergency department John speaking"

'Hi, John! It's Jill, is nurse Kim there by any chance?'

"Kim is currently assisting Dr Park with his rounds, she will be back soon, if it's urgent she has the Ed mobile on her' replied John before hanging up and greeting a patient who

just walked in.

'Hello Sir, how may I help you asked John.

In a very timid and low but audible tone, the old man said "I...I am looking for my wife the..the lady at the front said to..to come here..yeah come here he said while nodding his head as if unsure of what he is saying.

'Oh okay, what is your wife's last name' said John while logging into patient admission.

As he looked up, he got a call, which he answered "Emergency department John speaking" while still looking at the man waiting for the last name.

'John is there a man in his late 60s looking for his wife in the ED by any chance? Asked the lady on the phone

John with an unsure tone replied, "ahh yes, why?"

"Tell him his wife is on level 2 near geriatrics in block E and to ring the bell when he gets there and the nurses will show him to her room"

John thought for a second and *ding* with a surprised look on his face isn't that the dementia ward' he thought to himself.

"John are you still there?" asked the nurse in the dementia ward

"Oh yes, sorry I will have one of the interns heading that way assist him' john replied before putting the phone down and calling over the intern who just arrived and is on his

way to geriatrics.

John had only started working at Kendrick Memorial Hospital, 6months ago and was still adjusting to the layout of the hospital, he had previously worked at Hope Hospital in a small town, which is where he met nurse Phoebe.
