Chapter 5 The Wife

(Nadia's POV)

My life, my choice, and my husband. I will not let other people to destroy it. No matter how much he has sinned against you, if you want him to stay with you, you must know how to forgive.

My life back then was just like a turtle's progress, I was always waiting for the passing of time.

I even wondered if i could just end my life?

After all, it doesn't seem to make sense for me to live in this world anymore.

But since i met Rohan, all my bad habits have suddenly changed. I experienced being happy, i made friends, and my heart learned to love.

I felt like i had gone to a new world. Where he gave color and light to my life. Just because of his simple love, he was able to change someone like me.

My name is Lelia Constancia, or better known as Nadia. At the young age of fourteen, i walked alone into the reality of the world.

I was orphaned early on by my parents because they were arrested and killed by strangers. They left almost nothing but me, who survived and escaped.

The path i chose has not been easy because most of them have different plans.

There are those rude people, they will force you to come even if you don't want to, and there are some who will give you a large amount of money exchange for your silence.

I left that kind of life when i graduated from high school. Again, i looked for another job, so i could help myself in college and get into a good university.

I even dreamed of being part of the army. So that i can defend the oppressed, and because i don't want others to experience my complicated past.

But all i could think was that everything would be easy if i could pass the course i wanted.

I thought, i would be able to leave my old habits. However, i made another mistake.

Most of the students studying at the university i attend have fancy cars, child of government officials, have a strong attachment to the school, from the family of businessmen and came from noble blood. There i witnessed that wealth is more important than dignity.

The amount i used to earn at the convenience store where i work, they just buy it by their luxuries and vices. I became a customer of some wealthy students. I know what they are looking for and what they want.

The amount they give me for a one night stand, i just pay for my tuition and i'll keep the excess. Despite my adventure in life, i have also achieved my long-awaited dream.

I took my course, Bachelor of Science in Military Leadership.

"Turn left!"

I became part of the Philippine ground army and was awarded as the leader of our group.

I was recognized as a valiant and youngest warrior. In this work of mine, you need a strong stomach and a strong will. Because if you are a coward and timid person, it is better to just look for another job.

I trained myself not to urge anything. But i think life is really playful.

I met Darwin, the leader of the other group. He's friendly person, brave but just an outlet for pride.

He's the type who thinks all the women in the world will like him just because he's rich. However, for me, he was just an ordinary warrior with a strong sense of self confidence and just full of rubbish words.

There were even times when i deliberately avoided seeing him or even meeting him on the road. Because, i don't want to hear his old poems and his quotes about love that makes me mad.

We soon became closer to each other. He was the first to be my friend inside the camp. Even i often insulted and shunned him.

I realized that as each hour and time passed, it seemed like my feelings for him as a friend or more than of a friend was deepening as well.

So, i immediately avoided him and walked away. I was afraid that one day i would regret everything if i didn't stop it.

Until the day of revolt against the foreigners comes. "Stand by!" Darwin and i were the designated leaders for our mission. But despite everything, i did not expect to experience the nightmare from my past again.

"Wait! you didn't tell me that you were letting my soldiers in!" Darwin said angrily to me. I didn't listen to him and just continued our mission.

Because of my desire to end the fight immediately, i forgot that i still had something to protect.

That was one of my most regrettable of all.

"Abort the mission! I'll repeat, back out now!Please ask everyone to leave that building immediately because they planted an explosion inside the building!" I was confused when i heard about it. So, i shouted over and over through the walkie-talkie to warn them all.

But my fears overcame me, and i felt anxious. So, i decided to go to them in person. I ran as fast as i could, so i could tell them right away.

However, i was only halfway there when the building suddenly exploded.

"What's going on there, Lieutenant Constancia? Where are the other soldiers? Are they all safe?"

I seemed deaf and frozen like a rock. I let go of the walkie-talkie i was holding, and my whole body weakened at the same time, i just knelt on the ground and emotionless.

"Lelia!" Darwin shouted as he ran closer to me.

"Darwin come! let's help them inside, let's get them all out. Maybe they're still alive," I tearfully told him while pulled him by his hand, but he just refused it and removed my hand from him.

"That's enough, Lelia. The fight is over, and we can't do anything else."

I was shocked by what i heard.

I could not believe that he would simply give up the lives of some soldiers inside.

"What did you say, Darwin? Did you just said to let them go? Are you still the former Darwin that i knew or are you just a coward?" I shouted as i pushed him into his chest.

"If you're scared, fine. I'll go and save them!"

After saying that, i turned my back on him and headed to the burning building.

I hadn't gone far yet, but i suddenly felt dizzy and felt as if someone had hit me in the back. I fell down in the ground and lost consciousness.

"You both must leave for six months. You must forget what happened yesterday and start anew."

"Leave? Do you think we can just forget what happened after you set us up with the opponents?"

I just regained consciousness when i heard Darwin's furious voice.

I got up and saw it was General who he was talking to.

"Set up? what set up are you referring to? Don't tell me that-"

I stopped talking and looked at the two.

I take turns looking them in the eye, but they both just avoid looking at me. I got up and threw everything i see to them.

"You're all f*ck m*th*r f*ck demons! How can you afford to live in this world while there is a family who's suffering because of your selfishness?!"

I shouted while Darwin attempted to stop me and calm me down.

"Lelia, let's talk first." He said to me, and i also noticed he was slowly stepping closer to me.

I suddenly remembered that i shouldn't be in the hospital today if it wasn't for him. So, i pulled a gun out of my leg and aimed it at him.

"Just try to come closer because i'm really going to fire this gun at your head!"

I was so disappointed to him, i regretted that i loved someone like him.

"Lelia!" he calls.

"Stop calling my name! It's just sickening to hear. I want you all to come out of this room now. Now! Get out!" they immediately backed away and left the room.

I locked the door because i knew they would just call a lot of security guards to arrest me and lock me in a mental hospital.

I opened the window and tied the blanket out there, so they would think i had run away from there. Then i hid under the bed. As soon as i slipped under, they forcibly opened the door so that they could enter.

"Chase her, hurry!"

I heard the general say.

They immediately ran out of the room and went to the lower part of the hospital building.

I went out when i saw they were no longer there. I ran to the elevator, but it looked like i'll be caught if i waited there, so i thought of just going through the Exit stairs.

Furthermore, i quickly went down from the seventh floor to the fourth floor. Stepping on the third floor, i heard some footsteps going up in my direction.

I just opened the door and when i came out, i saw some soldiers but they didn't notice me. I was walking with a nurse who passing by while my head bowed.

I noticed that they were looking for me in every room of the hospital, so i stopped for a moment in front of the elevator because i noticed that it nearly to open.

"Hurry, please!" I whispered to myself, when i noticed two soldiers walking in my direction.

I was about to run, but i saw a soldier walking to my right. I just bowed again when someone suddenly called me.

"Lelia!"

I don't know who it was, but he grabbed the soldiers attention and they turned to me.

My eyes widened and i could not move where i stood. The elevator opened just in time, and i was shocked when someone pulled me inside.

"Darwin?"

I couldn't believe it when i found out that he's the one who pulled me then.

"So, am i right? you used your old tricks again." He smiled, but i just kicked him hard on the knee, and he was shocked by what i did.

"Is that how you really thank me? after i save your life, do i deserve this?"

"Do you think i can just lightly forget the sins you committed?"

After i said that, he suddenly raised both his arms.

"I'm sorry! i'm sorry, i'm really sorry!" his face became serious and he just bowed.

"You're right, i was a coward and i only did that because i was afraid that i might lose you too." He said and he slowly knelt in front of me.

I don't know what i should say to him.

What happened yesterday is still fresh for me. I believe it's all my fault too, if i just didn't let them in, maybe we're still together and completely.

Three weeks have passed since i escaped and went to a distant place so that they could not find me.

I stopped walking for a while when i passed ny at the TV shop. I heard the names of the soldiers killed in the big explosion mentioned one by one on television. And that includes our group mates. But i was shocked to hear my name also mentioned and my picture even shown on the news.

They include me with them as a dead person.

I clenched my fists and tears welled up in my eyes.

I can't believe Darwin lied on me!

"He was honored as a brave soldier who surrendered to foreign rebels?"

What a nonsense! Does that mean all this time he's just toying us around for a promotion?

My vision darkens and it seems like i want to shoot, stab or kill him over and over again.

"People will think he's a hero, won't they?"

I immediately wear my hat when i heard a man's voice from behind me. I was about to leave when he suddenly stopped in front of me. I looked up at him as he chewed bubblegum in his mouth.

"What do you need?" I asked him.

"You're what i need, i mean they need you." He said and he handed me a business card.

"Do i know you?" i asked.

"Of course not!" he laughed.

"But i know who you are." He added.

I looked at the business card he gave me and nothing special was written on it except his name and the address of the place. And i also know where that place is located.

"Baron?"

"Yeah, that's my name!"

"But not your real name, am i right?"

He just grinned and pocketed both his hands.

"You've got me." he said with a wink.

His code-name was Baron, and he's a spy agent.
