Chapter 4 Four

Samantha's thoughts were disturbed by her mobile ring, and there was a call from Jenny.

" Hey Sam!! I hope I'm not disturbing you, are you on your lunch break??" Asked Jenny.

Coming out of her trance Samantha replied, "Yeah Jenny tell me I'm on break"

" That's good, how about we catch together this weekend for my wedding shopping??" Jenny was excited.

After a thought, " Yeah sure " said Samantha.

" Hey dude, are you alright?? You sound a little different today??" Asked Jenny.

Samantha gets tensed but she hides it and convinces Jenny, " Just a workload, nothing else "

" Ok.. then it's fine. This Saturday ok??" Asked Jenny.

" Yeah I'm fine, we will go " said Samantha.

" Wow!! I'm so happy, so this weekend you will come to my apartment. We will stay together and go shopping" said Jenny excitedly.

Samantha accepted her idea and disconnected the call after a normal conversation. She wants to tell Jenny about that stranger whom she bumped twice and faced humiliation. But she stopped realising how happy and excited she was about her wedding. So she doesn't want to spoil her mood.

After a while she checked the time and realised she was getting late today. She internally cursed that stranger for spoiling her peace of mind. She lost her appetite, packed fresh juice for Emily and left the place without touching the food.

After a few minutes of walking she reached her office and went to her floor. She gave the fresh juice to Emily and she was about to return to her place, Emily interrupted.

" Hey!! Are you ok?? Suddenly what happened? You look dull" asked Emily.

Samantha gets startled but she concealed it with an excuse of being tired, Emily too didn't urge her further and remained silent. Moreover, Emily said to Samantha that Mr. Thomas wants to meet her once she returns. Samantha remembered the same Thomas said when she left for her Lunch, she decided to meet him but before that she wanted to freshen up.

Straight away Samantha picked her handbag and headed to the restroom. She looked at her pale face and messy hair. She was shocked and tried to look better. She set her hair right, applied a slight makeup to cover up her emotions.

Atlast she was satisfied with her look and left the washroom. Soon after that she dropped her handbag at her work desk and headed towards Mr. Thomas' room. She knocked on the door gently and politely asked for his permission to enter.

" May I come in??"

"Come in, " Mr.Thomas said from inside.

She pushed the door to open wider and went in. "Just letting you know..." she stuttered in between.

She was stunned, her smile freezed at the sight of the man sitting in front of her with her boss. He is the same guy, whom she bumped a couple of times. Samantha thought what is he doing here??

" Samantha..." Mr. Thomas said.

She came out of her trance and looked at Mr.Thomas and the stranger. Surprisingly, he is also staring at her with a cold face, she moved her sight from him carefully.

"Uh, I-umm," I stutter again, then I cleared my throat to start over fresh. "Excuse me sir, I didn't know that you had a visitor. I'm sorry, I will meet you later". Samantha tried to go back to avoid the stranger.

"That's fine Samantha" Mr. Thomas said casually with a smile and beckoned at me. "Samantha, get in and close the door. I do have something to inform you."

Looking at the stranger's eyes on her, she didn't feel comfortable, so she made excuses to Mr. Thomas "I don't want to impose in your meeting, we can speak after. If it is okay, shall I leave??" She was waiting for his positive reply so that she could escape from this stranger's sharp eyes. She felt discomfort when he observed her.

"Actually, our meeting is with Mr. Daniel, so there is no place for an impose. Especially I want you to meet him" Mr. Thomas explained. Samantha looked shocked in disbelief, subconsciously her head turned towards the stranger, he looked so calm but his eyes showed something else.

She murmured confused, " What kind of meeting ??"

"Close the door behind you. I don't want any word to reach our staff members until I break the news to them formally"said Mr. Thomas.

Without any choice she entered his room reluctantly, and closed the door gently. She was well aware that the stranger still had his eyes on her and watching her keenly, his sharp eyes made her feel uncomfortable. She remembers their previous encounters and gets angry.

"Mr. Daniel, this is my Personal Assistant Samantha, whom I was talking about." exclaimed Mr. Thomas.

She raised her eyebrows in surprise, and asked herself, " What?? Were they talking about me?? I wondered about what it could be?? " Strangely she had a bad feeling that this sudden meeting and this new man was not good for me. She felt something bad was going to happen for sure.

"Ah, you mean the Assistant who knows everything," Mr. Daniel states ruefully with a tinge of sarcasm. Samantha clenched her teeth secretly.

"I mean except it seems to be how to walk without bothering others, " said that stranger mockingly. Samantha's eyes widened.

" Pardon?? I didn't get what you meant " Mr. Thomas said confused looking at the stranger

Daniel waves him off "Your Personal Assistant understands what I mean."

" It means that you two met before?? Do you know each other??" Mr. Thomas exclaimed with surprise.

"No... No... We don't " Samantha denied instantly. After hearing Mr. Thomas's questions, she realized that she hasn't said a word since she was asked to step in the room. She can't be quiet now, so she made it clear,

" I just bumped into him accidentally, but we've not been officially introduced,"said Samantha.

"Literally bumped at me twice and fell on me," Mr. Daniel adds with a mockery. Samantha gritted her teeth and closed her fist to control herself. She wishes to break his jaws

Her eyes turned red in anger, heat spread on her cheek. "It was an accident and I apologised for it, and it was over Mr. Daniel "

Mr. Thomas looked at her then Mr. Daniel with a frown before he shrugged his shoulders. He understood something was fishy, he said calmly "Anyway Mr.Daniel, this is my personal secretary Ms.Samantha. And Samantha I'm informing you that,you will be working for him as his PA from tomorrow onwards"

"What?" Her eyes shifted instantly from Daniel to her boss Mr. Thomas, as his words gave her a shiver behind her back. She asked nervously, "What do you mean, work for him?"

"It's not fresh news, that we've been lagging behind Mr.Daniel's corporation " Mr. Thomas stated, and she nodded slightly.

"Definitely you must be well aware about it. Samantha, apart from all other employees, you are the one working closely with me, so you knew about this company" said Mr. Thomas and looked at her deeply.

He continued to say, " For a long time, I was thinking about my retirement, but I thought it would be really cruel to shut down the company and to leave employees here without a job. By that time I met Mr. Daniel Miller, President of Miller group of companies. Surprisingly he showed his interest to take over this company, so gradually I accepted his offer as it will be comfortable for all"

No! No! No! Her mind screamed in protest. She looked helpless, as well as confused but Mr.Thomas failed to notice her facial changes; unfortunately Daniel observed her keenly.

She knew that she couldn't work with this man,she couldn't tolerate his arrogant and disrespectful attitude. Everything will definitely change and nothing will remain like before. This man is not like Mr. Thomas, who is kind and friendly, and most importantly, looks like everyone's Grandpa. Moreover, this Daniel is a freaking monster, merciless demon, how could she get work with him after so much happened between them?? Whatever happened between them was completely unpleasant. She doesn't feel comfortable when he is around her even for a few minutes, literally she feels like smashing his face.

Samantha can't tell Mr. Thomas about what happened between them, how she was humiliated by him or what she was going through. So she thought she needed some time to think about how to tackle the situation.

She asked Mr. Thomas calmly, " Is there anything else that I should be aware of?". Both the men looked at her for a second. Especially Daniel's eyes raised up in surprise. He looked at her with a frown.

He concluded she was more dangerous than he thought, changing her mind and controlling her emotions within a minute was not easy but she did it. He knew well that she was shocked to know that he would be her new boss but within a few minutes she concealed her emotions and looked normal. Daniel decided to keep an eye on her and not to believe her talks.

" I don't think any are there except this news" Mr. Thomas responded thoughtfully looking at Daniel. His face was dark as usual, he too concealed his suspicion about her and acted normal.

" Alright Mr. Thomas, I will leave now. Please carry on with Mr.Daniel. I have something important to do, " said Samantha.

Mr. Thomas nodded to acknowledge and looked at Daniel. Suddenly he gets jerked and exclaimed, " Samantha wait a minute"

Samantha, who was ready to open the door, got perplexed and waited for a moment and turned back to look at Mr. Thomas. She gets worried, and thought, what is the next shocking news now??

" Yeah I forgot to say just one more thing, from tomorrow onwards this company will be officially called " Miller " Publishing. I do trust that you will continue to do an excellent job with Mr. Daniel too. All the best Samantha" said Mr. Thomas with a happy smile. Samantha helplessly nodded her head looking at Daniel. She was taken back seeing his dark eyes and it's dangerous gaze.

" Samantha, just arrange a small meeting with our staff, I will inform them all. This will be our last formal meeting" said Mr. Thomas with a heavy heart. Samantha felt bad, she could feel a pain beneath his shrunken eyes.But what can she do?? She knew she couldn't stop this,she is just a personal assistant nothing more, it's not in her hands. So she said ok and walked out of the room with a worried face.
