Chapter 6 Cheating

James was naked in bed with another woman...

It was not any other woman but the one that had stopped me on my way to university. The same woman he told me was a nobody. The same woman he said I should not worry about

I didn't know what to do. Looking at the other side of the table, I saw my dad looking at me with a worried expression.

"What's wrong, Jane?"

"Nothing, Dad," I said to him and stood to go out. My mind was blank. Did he just lie to me about going on a business trip? The wild thoughts running on my mind were too much at that moment.

"Excuse me for a moment," I said to my brother and dad before standing on my feet, pushing the chair behind me. I took long strides to the balcony of the restaurant. I wanted somewhere I could talk without the presence of others.

The phone rang, and someone picked it

"Hello"

"Why are you picking his phone?" I asked the woman on the other end

"That is because he is asleep, and I wouldn't want a nobody like you to disturb his rest." The lady answered me back with pride evident in her voice. I could hear echoing sounds coming from the background. I just knew she was in a bathroom

"Why are you talking from the washroom? Take the phone to him. I want to talk to him."

"No, he is too tired to even lift his hand. You know, he seemed like a starved man." She said something that gave me the creeps, and anger took the best of me. I wanted to give him a piece of my mind at that moment.

"I don't care what your plan is, but leave my man alone. I do not know what you have done to him, but I trust him," I said to her, which left her speechless for a moment. I assumed that because she did not talk for a moment before clicking her tongue and hanging up the call.

I did not return to my father immediately but when to the bathroom. I locked myself in a cubicle and cried my eyes out. My heartfelt broken. For how long was I going to deal with a cheating man? We were not yet married. What if we married? Will he still cheat on me? Those were some of the questions that bothered me on my mind.

As much as I loved him, I was not ready to live in and out of cheating. His family clearly supported the relationship with the girl on his bed. He clearly said he would deal with it. Why was the woman in Singapore with him?

For around fifteen minutes, I stayed in the bathroom until I got a call from my brother.

"I am coming," I answered Josh. He knew me very well. He must've sensed something was wrong when I talked.

"What happened?" he asked over the phone, but I could not tell him anything.

"Nothing. I am coming" I sniffed and ended the call. I opened the door and got out.

Two women were standing at the mirror, retouching their makeup.

I washed my face at the tap and wiped it using a handkerchief from my bag. I was not a makeup kind of woman. I always loved looking natural. I was beautiful the way I was.

I went back to my restaurant room and found my father gone.

"Where is dad?" I asked Josh, who was busy eating a drumstick

"He just left. He got a call; there is a business partner here in town that wants to meet him." Josh said, stuffing more food in his mouth

"Okay. I am tired. I want to go and rest," I said to him, and he stopped eating, placing the drumstick down on the white plate on the table full of delicacies

"What's wrong? I know something is not right. Even dad noticed something is wrong before he left," Josh said, and mind clicked I stayed too long out

"Nothing. Just normal couple quarrel." I said to shut him up, but it seemed to have ignited his queries.

"Is he cheating on you?" that question surprised me, and I looked at him instantly out of surprise. That alone sold me out.

"No. nothing of the sort," I answered so fast that I jumped from my seat.

"I need to go." I did not wait for him to continue asking questions and walked out

"Sis. Wait." Josh called behind me, but I did not answer him. I took a taxi parked outside the restaurant. I saw Josh running out of the restaurant through the rear mirror of the taxi.

"Ma'am. Someone is running after us. Should I stop?" the driver asked, and I threw him a look that shut him up.

"Let him run," I said and closed my eyes after giving him the address. I saw a call from James the moment I entered the apartment.

"What? You are done with your woman." That was the first thing I threw at him

"What are you talking about?" he asked me in surprise. I was stunned. He dared to lie straight in words with no shame. I didn't speak but hung up and sent him the pictures I received that day.

He called immediately

"Hey, babe. Listen to me. It's not what it seems. There is an explanation. Please give me a chance. I am coming right away. I will explain everything."

"It's too late. I thought I could get over this, but I was wrong" I hung the phone and dropped down on my knees in tears. I remembered the time he cheated on me the second time. It was nothing much, but now it's too much. The emotions and emptiness I felt were too much to bear.

I realized I had gone too deep into the relationship that I felt like I would run crazy.

A few hours later, the door to the front door was opened in a hurry. James came dragging his suitcase before letting it go running to me. I was on the floor in the same postures since afternoon. It was night, and I didn't even realize for how long I had stayed in that posture.

"Baby," he called out to me the moment he came close. I didn't even have the strength to argue with him.

"Why?" I asked him in tears. This time, I was hurt beyond repair. I just wanted a man that could love me and me alone. A man that could cherish me for who I am without looking at my background. A man that would stand firm despite the opposition from his family

The lady told me his family did not want anyone else for a daughter-in-law except her. She had said if I loved him, I should let him go or lose his inheritance. Of course, that is the part that devastated me the most. I loved him, but I didn't want to be why he failed. His cheating on me also aggravated everything. He had said she was a nobody when she had stopped me, but why would he sleep with her.
