Chapter 3 "Your words wound me."

Scarlet's pov

Making sure I had put in the right number I leaned against the headboard of my bed.

Andrew.

The name was neatly scrawled on the bill. It wasn't the most beautiful writing I had seen but it still seemed like he had tried his best.

He must be a guy who appreciated little details.

"Hello?" a slight groggy voice said from the other side. It sounded like he had just woken up from the call.

I checked the time; it was three in the afternoon.

I guess I disturbed his nap. I just hope he doesn't get pissed and blows me off, and then my plan would already end even before it began properly.

"Hey, it's Scarlet; you gave me your number yesterday at Sabrosa, remember?" I asked, saccharine mixed in my voice and I cringed as soon as it left my mouth.

Sweetness and I didn't go together, not unless the person it was being used for was really important to me.

"Scarlet?" he mumbled, his voice still sounding sleepy.

Did this asshole already forget me?

"It's okay. Call me when you wake up. I am sorry I disturbed you," I sweetly apologized, ready to cut the call when I heard him shout, "Wait, wait! I am awake."

I guess his brain finally remembered the details of the night before and decided to jerk him awake because his voice sounded very frantic and that immediately put an impish smile on my face.

A clearing of a throat could be heard and then he said, "I am sorry. I was taking a nap and my sleep induced self didn't realize that the cute girl from the diner has actually called me."

He must have still been a little muddle headed because while rambling he didn't seem to realize what he had called me, and it made a brilliant opportunity for me to tease him.

"So, you think I am cute?"

"Huh?"

"You just called me 'the cute girl from the diner'."

"I -uh yeah, I guess I did call you that but that was because I didn't know your name," he stammered trying to excuse himself and to get out of this awkward situation, but I just couldn't leave him so easily.

"Did you have a good nap?" I asked already thinking of ways to fluster him more.

"Yeah, I did?" He said sounding confused but that was exactly what I wanted him to say.

"Was it because you were dreaming about me?"

"What? No!" he shouted, clearly embarrassed.

I pulled the phone away from my ear and covered my mouth with my hand, laughing silently. It had been a while since I had met someone like him, someone who isn't trying to be the stereotypical bad boy.

Gluing the phone to my ear again, I said in the most innocent voice I could muster, "What if I say I wanted you to dream about me?"

I waited for his response, but I got none. The line remained silent for a while and then he squeaked, "Really?"

At this I couldn't stop the laughter that bubbled out of me and at that exact moment Denise entered my room giving me a questioning glance making my laughter double up.

I heard mild cussing from that side that I couldn't decipher but it was something along the lines of calling himself an idiot.

Sobering up a bit I said, "Sure if you want to, it's not like I can control your dreams."

Denise gestured for me to put the call on speaker while coming to sit beside me on my bed and immediately putting him on speaker I signaled her to stay quiet.

"Uh- yeah okay, thank you." His awkwardness was really something rare to witness and I wondered how he had come so far in his life without changing his nature.

"It's alright I was just messing with you for a little bit," I said giving a smirk to Denise who was shaking her head at my antics already guessing what must have been going on.

"Yeah, I figured it out a little later," he mumbled most probably blushing.

"Anyways so when are you taking me out on a date?" I asked getting to the main reason of this call. I needed to start working on my plan and for that I needed to complete the first step and that was to start dating him. I had already spent a lot of time making fun of him today and I couldn't afford to waste anymore.

It was time to get down to business.

"Uh I never thought that you would actually call me, so I didn't have anything planned but how about I take you to the movies this Friday?" he asked hopefully.

Denise rolled her eyes from beside me, probably unimpressed by his confession and lack of smooth talk. It seemed like he was not very experienced in talking to girls and getting their attention which is odd because he looked very cute.

If I wasn't on a mission to hurt boys, I might have given him a chance.

"Friday works fine for me. I'll send you my address so that you can come pick me up."

Now that the deal was made, I had no longer interest in talking to him. I had already entertained him for way long and although it was fun while it lasted, I had places to be and people to meet.

"Okay, can't wait to meet you," he said, and I could hear suppressed excitement in his voice.

"And I can't wait to see your gorgeous face! Until then keep dreaming about me," I giggled, faking excitement and finally ended the call.

"So, what do you think?" I asked Denise looking over at her to see her texting someone while roaming around in my room.

"Yeah, wait give me a minute, I am just texting Ryan," She muttered distractedly, while still typing on her phone at a fast rate.

"Bitch hurry up, I have to go to meet with Charlie and Blu too," I huffed annoyed that she won't pay attention to me when I just completed the first part of my plan.

Ryan is a cool guy and sometimes hangs out with us. He and Denise met each other in the beginning of university and they have stuck to each other ever since.

He seemed to be a very patient guy to handle my stubborn best friend, but this is the longest Denise has been with anyone and sometimes I feel like they might be made for each other.

I have never seen someone understand Denise and care for her like he does. It makes my heart cry out in desperate need to find someone like him.

"Don't worry I heard everything, and I agree to the plan. A movie date is always a classic and would giving him time to grow comfortable around you is a good idea. He sounds like a shy guy, so I guess this might help him open up," she said standing in front of me, nodding solemnly like she had just disclosed a big mystery.

She hardly ever takes out her rare thinking side. Usually, we both are careless and always end up going to Blu when we are too deep in some shit.

"I guess you are right, I didn't even give it that much thought I just went with the first thought that came to my mind," I confessed honestly. I feel no shame in admitting that I always act before thinking.

"Anyways Charlie's back, huh?" she asked while plopping beside me again.

"Yeah, Blu is already there. I gotta get ready and reach there by four thirty or else they'll be at my case. So, I'll meet you tomorrow in school," I state rather than ask her while sending her a sorry smile for not being able to hang out with her.

"Yeah, yeah I understand. I am going and you better hurry or else you'll definitely be late," rolling her eyes she got up to give me a hug before sashaying out of my room without looking back at me.

She is such a drama queen!

Chuckling at her I walk over to my closet and take out a plain white t-shirt and black sweat pants knowing completely well that if today ended up being a sleepover then I would need to be as relaxed as possible.

Besides there was no one there for whom I had to dress to impress.

***************

Pulling my car up on the driveway beside another similar looking one I realized that I had yet again been late to meet them. A blue Ford Fiesta shone beside my black one as if mocking me to say that it had yet again been on time and I had not.

The cars were a graduation gift to Blu and me from our parents. Even though we insisted that they didn't have to spend money on us they were never the one to listen.

I vaguely remember mum saying something along the lines that we shouldn't teach them what to do as they were the parents and if they wanted to spoil us with something then they would, no matter how old we get.

I chuckled at that memory.

Without wasting more time, I got inside the small house using the key given to me bracing myself for whatever lay ahead of me.

"Finally, she graces us with her presence," his voice was full of sarcasm and when I looked at him, he already had his hand placed on his hips like he was angry at me for being late while Blu was standing behind him with a hand covering her mouth, trying to control her laughter at what was going to happen next.

This was never good.

I sent her a pleading look to help me, but she shook her head letting me know that I was all on my own.

"Don't you dare ask for her help!" He must have caught on to the fact that Blu was behind him because he didn't even spare her glance as he just stared at me as if he was trying to burn holes in my head.

"Who said I needed her help? What do you think you are going to do huh?" I mocked, already knowing that I had to play along to end this. There was no other escape.

"I had already warned you the last time that if you turn up late to hang out with us, I will break all ties with you. Now you see, I don't back down on my words. You have left me with no choice unless you apologize," He said, a betrayed expression playing on his features as he melodramatically put the back of his palm against his forehead while tilting his head a bit.

I rolled my eyes at him. Already used to his dramatic ways.

"I guess this friendship ends here then," I said already knowing what's coming next while laughing in my head.

He gasped just as I had thought and looked as if my words had physically hurt him. Putting a hand to his heart he staggered towards me and then fell on his knees in front of me as if it was too draining for his body to stand straight.

"Your words wound me. My heart, it pains. I thought you will fight for our friendship, but I guess I never really meant much to you. I suppose it's goodbye Blu, my only best friend. This monster has injured my heart," He said as he put a hand on the right side of his chest.

Giggling silently Blu took his hand and placed it where his heart actually was and said in her most believable sad voice, "I know, I will miss you, Lee. You deserve someone so much better someone who respects you and your friendship. A person who values your time and efforts," She said as she sat and placed an arm around him as if giving support to a person speaking his last wishes.

I couldn't take it anymore I knew what they wanted to hear, and they wouldn't stop until I said it, "Okay fine! I am sorry, and I'll try to be punctual."

They both immediately got up and grinned at me, "See that wasn't so hard."

He then turned to Blu and raised his hand to high five her which she returned with the same enthusiasm.

This guy never acts like a twenty-one-year-old.

Why was I surrounded with such dramatic people?

"Guys, Is this necessary? You both act the same way as when we were five," I scowled at them knowing well that making fun of me was their favorite pastime.

"Aww grumpy, don't be a killjoy you know you love it!" Blu said as she pouted at me.

"Now come here and give your best friend a big hug, I missed you." Charlie said as he opened his big muscular arms wide to give me a bear hug and although I secretly loved them, I made a face at him before letting him pull me in.

A second later I felt Blu trying to wrap her arms around both of us from behind me and right then and there, I felt the happiest I had felt in a while now.

"Now that we have you trapped. Tell me all about your latest boy drama and whether I have to beat someone up?"

I groaned.

This was going to be a long sleepover.
