Chapter 5 Who Says Death Is The End Part 2

Looking at me like I was crazy, he lets me come in and sit down. "Are you O.K.?"

"No, there is something in my room and I think it's a ghost. The skeleton on my door just moved its arm up after I asked for my brother to do something to let me know if he was there. I could understand if it fell down, but no it just freaking moved up."

"Well, let's go see. I'm sure there is a reasonable explanation for it." He stands up and grabs something before returning to the room.

I glance at him, and I could tell right away that he wasn't taking me seriously. "You know what? Just never mind, you're right." I say as I try to just blow it off as me acting nutty because of Halloween.

"No, really. Let's go." He says as he walks to the door and motions for me to follow him.

I stand up and start walking out deliberately slow, and say, "I was just drawing my brother and the room felt weird, so I asked if he was there with me. That's when the skeleton moved."

Thinking that the whole thing is funny, he cracks a smile and I catch him. I smack his arm and yell at him, "Stop laughing at me and take that thing out of my room. I don't ever want to see it again."

Once we get back to my room, I refuse to go in until he removes the skeleton from my door. After he takes it down, he leaves with it and then comes back a few minutes later, saying as he patronizes me, "See. No harm. It's all been taken care of now."

I beg him, "Please, stay. I'm so scared now. I can't stay alone, I just can't."

Trying my hardest, I give him a quick little peck on the lips with puppy dog eyes. "No, you know I can't. I have an exam tomorrow in History and if I don't pass this one, I won't pass the class. Besides, Shanna should be back any time now."

"Really? You're going to leave me here like this?" I tug on his arm desperately trying to get him to stay.

"Stop. I have to leave, now let go." He yanks my hand from his arm and walks out of the room.

I sit down in my desk chair and stare out the window. Still feeling scared, I grab my blanket and wrap it around me, but something gets my attention. Scanning the surrounding area, I notice something off. It feels like the darkness seems more intense than it usually is. Maybe it's because it is Halloween.

Returning my attention to the radio playing, I start to sing along with a song I really like. What I don't realize is there is a shadow behind me. Hearing a rustling sound again, I turn around to see a shiny object coming right at me, held by a tall dark shadow. When my eyes focus, I notice that it is a knife and I narrowly escape the sharp blade aimed at my head as I crash to the floor.

At this point, something extremely strange happens. When I look up to see who is attacking me, I watch as my radio flies across the room and slams into my assailant's head. Quickly picking myself up, I run for the door and start to scream for help.

Trying to find anyone, I run from door to door and pound on them while screaming "Help." Finally, someone answers and I run inside. They lock the door and I say, "Call the police."

When the officers arrive, the attacker is still unconscious on the floor, and they take him into custody. I watch as they take him out from the hall and put him into the back seat of the squad car. Standing by the entrance to the hall, I notice Shanna walking on the sidewalk towards me.

"What happened?" She runs up and hugs me, scared.

"On my way back from class, I felt someone following me, but I didn't notice anyone. Apparently, he was waiting for me to be alone just so he could kill me. The cops told me that they have been looking for him for a couple of months now."

"Holy shit, Serena! You could have died."

She gives me a big hug and holds on for a few minutes before she finally backs away and I say, "Shanna, there is something else I didn't tell the cops. They would have thought I was nuts."

"What are you talking about?" She cocks her head, extremely interested.

"Earlier this evening, that skeleton that was on my door moved by itself. I had idiot dispose of it, but just before the guy could stab me, I watched as the radio flew at him. It was like someone threw it at his head and I'm pretty sure it was my brother."

She is silent for a minute, before she says anything and then she says, "That's the weirdest thing I have ever heard of. Are you sure you didn't hit your head?" I watch as a smile starts to spread across her face.

"No, stop it. I knew no one would believe me. Just forget I ever told you." I turn to walk back to the room, aggravated that no one believes me.

"Are you really serious?" She raises an eyebrow while asking.

I stop and look at her. "Yes."

Getting excited, she says, "Then, let's do this. I have a Ouija Board I have been itching to use."

"Shanna, you do realize that those things don't really work, don't you?" I question her because I don't know if she is messing with me or if she really believes it is going to do something.

She sighs and then replies, "Who's to say. Before tonight, I have never known anyone to have firsthand experience with a ghost or a killer before. So why not?"

I think about it for a minute. "O.K. Where is it?"

She pulls it from under her bed and we sit on the floor after retrieving a couple candles and her lighter. Lighting the candles, she lays out the board and we sit across from each other with it between us. The atmosphere in the room is a little scary, so she puts music on, and we read the instructions.

A few minutes later, we begin. I ask, "Is anyone here?" Waiting, I feel the pointer start to move. Looking at Shanna to make sure she isn't pushing it, I watch as it moves to yes. We both start to get a little freaked out and sit closer to each other before continuing.

"Are you my brother Billy?" I ask cautiously.

The pointer moves again in a circle and returns to yes.

"Why are you here?" I shout out, almost crying.

Nothing. We sit there and wait to see movement, but nothing happens.

I look at her clock and it's 11:32 p.m. Deciding that it is now or never, I ask one final question. "Billy, are you watching over me?"

The pointer starts to move again. This time it moves to no, then I watch as it spells out something.

She says in a very soft scared voice, "It spells, you are dead." She looks at me with fear in her eyes.

I run it over and over in my head, while this nagging feeling builds deep inside. "Why would it say that?"

At that moment, it hits me. The memories come back like a flash flood, and I realize all at once why it said that. I turn to Shanna and her face is white, like she just saw a ghost. Glancing down at my hand, I figure out why she is looking at me that way.

Slowly, I say out loud, "Because, I am dead." I hadn't noticed that my memories started today, till just now. Still looking at my hand, it slowly disappears. Shanna faints and I disappear forever.
