Chapter 5 Special Agent West

Sarah sat down on a chair in the kitchen behind Peggy, she stared at her with suspicion, her thumb and index fingers rubbing firmly on her cheek. How did the big guy know about the memorial? Was she followed by Peggy?. Is she a rat?. A series of thoughts ran through her head. She looked at Peggy, studying her, she paid no attention to her surroundings; not to the whistling kettle on her side or the heavy rainfall that pounds against the window.

"Sarah" Peggy called out.

Sarah couldn't hear peggy for she was in a trance-like state. Peggy walked to the electric cooker without looking at Sarah, reached for the switch on the wall, and turned it off.

"Ha!" Peggy shrieked. Her elbow had come in contact with the heat from the kettle. She spun around, irritated, to see Sarah frowning at her.

"Is everything ok?" She asked quietly. She reached for Sarah's hand, but Sarah quickly withdrew her hand, got up, and left the kitchen.

Cassandra stood before the revolving door at the entrance of the skyscraper building with the name: RICHARDS GROUP written on the signboard at the top of the door, wearing a brick brown single-breasted leather blazer and black Toreador pants holding a brick brown bag. Seconds later, she heard a car screeching to a halt, behind her. Kate stepped out of the car in a pantsuit and an umbrella raised above her head to shield her from the sun's rays. Kate goes to meet her at the door, the two of them entered the building and saw three reporters and two cameramen in the reception area. They walked away towards the stairs slowly, to avoid being questioned by the reporters. Suddenly, Kate felt a firm touch on her shoulders, a cold shiver ran through her bones. She turned around to see her father, who immediately grabbed her into his embrace.

"Stay still and look good for the paparazzi". Edward whispered into her ears. Edward knew Kate would play along. He knew that she wouldn't do anything to ruin her image and that of the family. Even as a teenager, she had always tried her best to be at a good behavior while kids her age often rebel at that stage in life, her greatest fear was not living up to her mother's expectations. Kate smiled and kissed him on the cheeks.

"What are you doing here?" She asked as she loosened his hold on her.

"You haven't heard" he smirked, "the nomination committee appointed me as one of the directors, courtesy the chairman". He moved his hand over the front of his chest in the shape of a cross "since Felix died".

"You are lying," Kate said in a displeased manner.

"No my love" he ran his hands through his hair "just maybe I will be promoted to the position of CEO, so um...don't flatter yourself" he giggled. Kate watched him walk away towards the reporters, flattering them with his charms. She wished he would drop dead and the ground would open and swallow him. She furiously used her hands to dust her suit and cleaned her lips. She was red with anger.

"C'mon let's use the elevator on the second floor," said Cassandra. She scowled at Cassandra.

Kate sat down on a luxurious leather chair, the clicking sound from the cradle sphere filled the quiet office and the words of her father played over and over in her head. Then, there was a knock on the door. A young lady who seemed to be the secretary walked in with a diligent and charismatic detective, almost six feet, the dark curly hair made his gray eyes sparkle, wearing a black leather jacket on an oxblood t-shirt and black pair of slacks

"Special agent west" he pulled out a notebook and ID from his jacket. He flipped open the ID card and showed it to them. His voice was manly and at the same time calm.

"Sit" Kate pointed at the chair opposite her on her right.

"No, I'm very comfortable in this posture".

"Isn't he, your type proud and rude" she spoke to Cassandra in Italian. Cassandra measured him from head to toe. She was amazed at detective Aura.

"No, I think he's more of your type, hot and daring". Cassandra purrs.

"I just need to ask you some questions concerning the death of Felix wright". He said.

"Go on," Kate said in a cool tone, legs-crossed. Her heart raced, hands tightened. She wondered if the police found evidence against her at the crime scene but she appeared calm.

"Have you been in touch with Mr. Felix?".

"Yes, he called me a day before he died". She knew that the police must see her number on his phone log as the last person he called before his death.

"And what did you guys talk about?".

"Hmm, he said he needed my help, that he was in grave danger".

"He did not mention the danger?"

"If he did I would have said it already, I remember him saying I was going to receive a text message".

"A text message?".

"Yes"

"Where were you yesterday between the hours of 4 and 5 in the morning?"

"Wait wait do you think I had something to do with his death"

"Please answer the question"

"On my bed sleeping"

"Do you have an alibi"

"Yes, she was at home sleeping". Cassandra paused "if you don't believe me you can ask the maids at our house". Agent west looked at the both of them for some moment before he kept the notebook inside his pocket.

"You said Felix told you he was in grave danger but he did not tell you to meet up with him?"

"No, he didn't, he called told me he was in grave danger, told me he was going to text where and when we will meet but the text never came" Kate sighed "I don't even know the guy, all I know is he was my mom's lawyer who disappeared immediately she died".

"Now that you mention, isn't that suspicious agent west," said Cassandra.

"Why all these questions, did you see any evidence that points to me?"

"No, that's the problem there is no evidence, not even a witness".

"Wow a professional touch was involved," said Cassandra. Agent west and Kate stared at her "what! I watch movies".

"I suggest you leave my office and have a good day". Kate smiled.

"Sorry for bothering you" Agent west exchanged looks with Kate before leaving the office.

Sarah sat down on her bed. She has been staring at the window for some time. She decided to go for a walk to clear her head. She walked down the street with her earphone on, she felt her phone vibrating. She looked at the phone, it was the big guy calling.

"Finally he called" she heaved a sigh of relief. "Hello".

"What happened?" He said.

"I went to the office but couldn't find him, I saw him on the sidewalk stabbed".

"I saw the papers he didn't survive".

"I was unable to get the flash drive and I ran into Kate at the office".

"Kate? what was she doing there?".

"I don't know but I can investigate".

"No!, Just lay low for the moment, we don't know who we are up against".

"Ok bye". She hangs up the phone call.

Behind her, a black van abruptly pulled to a stop and two men came out and grabbed her. They quickly placed a bag over her head. No one could hear her muffled screams.
