Chapter 8 : There is No Choice

"What's this, Chloe?" Mr. Bailey asked angrily.

He was seated imposingly in his chair. His questioning eyes were on her.

Chloe kept her expression indifferent, as if she was determined to do that. She was standing on her feet, in front of his desk.

"It's my resignation letter. I quit." She simply said, keeping her eyes on his.

"Are you f**king kidding me?" he was really mad.

Mr. Bailey got up and started to walk around the room. Chloe was quiet, still in the same position.

"Why?" he had a dry tone. "Who do you think you are?"

Suddenly Mr. Bailey was right behind her, talking low in her ear. "I won't let you quit."

He was clearly trying to control his anger. Chloe trembled.

"I don't wanna work here anymore." she tried to remain confident.

"Are you doing it because of the proposal?" he glanced at her.

Mr. Bailey was now in front of her, holding her shoulders. As she didn't answered his question, he shook her and asked again:

"Why don't you just accept it? It's easy money! After one year you will be a millionaire!

"If I liked easy money I would not be working here, Mr. Bailey." Chloe stated firmly, looking straight to his eyes.

She was challenging him. Mr. Bailey liked it and he was very impressed by her confidence. That was not the submissive Chloe he knew. But that version was quite interesting.

Without thinking twice, Mr. Bailey put his arms around her, pulling her to a passionate and intense kiss.

Chloe was took by surprise. She tried to push him away but his steady hands held her by the neck and waist.

A wave of excitement passed over her body. How could he be so hot and cold at the same time?

His tongue was exploring her mouth while his hands kept her trapped. She grabbed his neck with both hands, because her legs were weak and she was about to fall.

He took his lips away from her mouth, gently trailing kisses down to her neck.

"Be mine, Chloe." Mr. Bailey whispered breathless. "Marry me."

Chloe was so caught up in the moment that her mind couldn't form a sentence; she just murmured nonsense words.

Someone knocked on the door and Chloe came to herself immediately, pushing Mr. Bailey away. He was confused until he heard Brianna's voice.

"Mr. Bailey, Mr. Tyler Preston is here." she said without opening the door.

"Ok." He just answered loud enough to be heard on the other side.

Before Chloe left the room shamefully, Mr. Bailey said:

"Come back to work, Ms. Rodriguez. Quitting is not an option." and the cold CEO was back.

After Tyler left his office, Evan took a time to think about his life. That was not common, but given the circumstances, he needed to revise the plan.

A few months ago, Jill cheated on him with Victor, his direct competitor in business. Now Evan could only think about revenge.

He was so angry with himself because that b**ch fooled him for so long. He knew he didn't love her but what he felt for her was the feeling closest to love he has ever gotten. That gold digger fooled him. What a shame!

Evan needed to restore his honor in family and business. He would not let Jill break him completely. All he needed to do was marry a decent woman. And he already had the perfect person:

Chloe Rodriguez.

She looked like a polite and obedient person. Her beauty was visible.

There was only a problem: Chloe didn't accept the deal at first. So he had to win her.

As the days were passing by, Evan was attracted by her somehow. That curvy body, that innocent face, that smart mouth that always impressed him with a quick answer. Maybe she was not that obedient, but he would like to know more about her. Evan could not wait to touch her again though.

Earlier that morning he was pissed because Chloe tried to quit. There was no way for her to do that! He was the one responsible for dictating the rules of that game and he needed her around. Controlling everything was part of his personality.

And then there were those rosy lips, he couldn't control himself. For the first time in his life, he acted on impulse. He kissed her with desire and she enjoyed the moment. If Tyler hadn't arrived, only God would have known what they would have done.

Feelings? No. It was just physical attraction. Although he should confess he was confused about what happened on the elevator the other day.

When he saw her panic, vulnerable, he tried to help her instantly. However, he would help anyone in that situation, so it was not a big deal.

"Well Chloe, you just wait and see! I have big plans for you!" Evan gave a half-smile while he was thinking out loud. "It's going to be interesting!"
