Chapter 5 - THE HUNT

ALPHA FRED'S POV

"And why is alpha Ray not joining us for this hunting, I thought you promised to bring him?" I asked alpha Jake.

I was on a hunting escapade with alpha Jake and we are hunting in the forest in his Pack. We just arrived and our men are still putting our things in place for the hunting.

"I informed him about this, but then you know how it is, he said something about some students passing out today and he has to be there. I requested that he let Miller handle it but he refused. You know how is he with getting things done his way" alpha Jake responded.

I had insisted on bringing Ray, the alpha of Crystal Realms Pack along to this hunting but my friend alpha Jake of the Black Moon Pack had insisted on telling him about it himself since he would be going over to the Crystal Realms Pack on an official visit.

The three Packs are brother Packs, with my Pack, Diamond Cut Pack situated in the middle. My Pack is the strongest Pack amongst the three and none of the other two dared to go against an order from my Pack.

This was an aged long tradition and history had it that Black Moon Pack and Crystal Realms Pack were once protectorates of my Pack and that it was only on a mutual understanding that they were made a Pack and allowed to have an alpha to rule over them.

They were supposed to always pay royalties to my Pack but that was forfeited because our treasury is way above what their Packs put together can make in seven years and we even assisted them in times of need. Hence, Diamond Cut is just like an elder brother to them.

For time immemorial, alphas of all the three Packs were made to be best of friends right from childhood and that was the case between me and Jake and Ray.

And even though it appears as if I was closer to Jake due to his clinginess, I still valued my friendship with Ray. But then, Jake was more fun than Ray who to me still thinks like a commoner and was always about the best interest of the members of his Pack even to his own detriment.

"Oh really, then I think we would have to have our next activity at his Pack. He has been missing out on our gathering for a couple of times now" I suggested.

"But then we are still having enough fun, aren't we?" he asked.

"Sure we are but if we should continue like this, the gab building between us would widen, and before we know it, there would be nothing anyone would be able to do to bridge it" I replied.

"I understand but he still has to pick his path, right?" he said.

He was being pushy but as I have said, our next activity would be at Crystal Realms and there is nothing anyone can do to make me change my mind.

"Come over here, you fool" alpha Jake screamed at one of his omegas.

The omega quickly ran over to him and knelt down.

"You ought to know when I am giving you a sign. Have you cared to know if my good friend here, the alpha of the greatest Pack, needs anything?" he screamed at the omega.

"Pardon my indolence, alpha, I am at your service" the omega trembled as he replied.

"Now you don't talk to me, find out what he needs and do that immediately" alpha Jake thundered.

Still trembling, the omega turned to me and asked. "I am sorry, my good alpha, please how can I be of service to you?"

I leaned towards alpha Jake and whispered to him. "But I don't even need anything"

"You can leave now, you fool, and make sure you are at alert I wouldn't want to beg for your attention or that of any of you" he screamed at the omega.

The omega practically jumped up and ran back to his position.

"I thought you might need something, alpha Fred," he said to me.

"But then I have my men here with me, I can always send them," I replied.

"I am supposed to be at your beck and call, alpha Fred, and I must see to that" he replied.

"And then, there was no need to be harsh with him," I said.

"They will never work as good as you want them to if you are lenient with them. They have to feel your authority. And that is the issue I am always having with alpha Ray, he is just too soft with these people" he responded.

"I think every man should do what works for them. But then, I think I like your authoritative spirit" I confessed.

I love the way he comported himself amid people, especially among his subjects. For him, business was business and pleasure was pleasure and that is when it is absolutely necessary. And I feared he would grow old without knowing when life passed him because he was such a rigid fellow and was completely devoid of any trace of emotions.

"Thanks, and that is how it should be" he responded.

I reflected on his response for a while before saying. "You know I have been thinking"

"About what?" he asked.

"Remember I said our next activity would be at Ray's, I had just come up with the perfect event for that day" I replied.

He grumbled and tried to hide his displeasure. He had always insisted that alpha Ray's social relationship was slowing down his vibes and he would rather stay away from him and so he was not happy that I was trying to drag him over there again.

But then I was not doing this for me, I was doing it because that was how we were taught to do it.

"Are you still going on with the plan?" he asked.

"Why not?" I asked. "At least with that he would have no excuse to give"

I have always tried to explain to him that everyone should be allowed to live the way they wished, but he had been so opinionated and had always insisted that his way was the best especially when it comes to leading a Pack.

"But then, what would we be doing with him?" he asked.

"Anything. But now I have a perfect idea" I said.

"Okay, let me hear it," he replied.

But before revealing what I had in mind, I smiled. He might not like it but he has to do it. "A party, some sort of hang out and it would be organized by Ray himself" I revealed.

"Party, what am I supposed to be doing at a party? Can't you see? There are numerous pressing needs to attend to. And remember I told you of my intention to go to war with Dark Age Pack" he grumbled.

"The issue with Dark Age is already taken care of. I sent them a letter and they sent an apology and promised to make things right. You will be hearing from them before the end of tomorrow" I replied.

"Really!" he exclaimed. "If you say so, then I might just as well leave every other thing for a few hours"

He had told me about the intruding actions from the Dark Age Pack, and even though I had not promised to do anything about it, I had gone behind him to sort the issue. Actually, when he was telling me about the issue, I had acted as though it was not a concern to me so he was not expecting any action from me.

"Now, do we have a deal?" I smiled.

"I might not want to say it now, but with what you have just done, I will always heed to your deals for eternity" he replied in excitement.

"Alpha, everything is set for the hunt" one of my men walked up to me and said.

I looked at alpha Jake for approval, and he said to me. "Yes we can"
