Chapter 4 Checking Up On The Family

Already noon, James walked back into the house.

Still smiling about what just happened he reached out for his phone to call his dad who had travelled back home earlier this morning.

Ring ring..... Albert picked up

"How are you holding up son?" He asked

"I'm okay dad. I just wanted to check on you since you left this morning. By the way, have you arrived?" James asked

"Yes I just got back some moment ago and currently at work." Albert replied

"You are really strong to go through a 6 hour journey and still resume at work." James said

"That's what it takes to be a father. A man has to provide for his family by almost any means necessary." Albert said

"Alright Dad. Stay safe!" James said

"You too son!" Albert replied as he ended the call.

James then went ahead to facetime his sister.

"Hey Diana how are you doing today." he asked

"Yo Bro! it's been a while how was your journey and everything?" she asked.

"Anyways it was a bit stressful but I'm fine now besides everything seems cool at Uncle Joe's place. It's quite better than the way it was years back in his former house." James answered

"That's interesting!" Diana said.

"Where is mum?" James asked

"She's inside her room I guess." Diana replied.

"Ok could you please give her the phone I miss talking with her." James pleaded

"All right give me some minutes to go and give her the phone." Diana replied.

"Hey mum you have a call. It's James he wants to speak with you." Diana said as she entered Sarah's room.

"James? please give me the phone let me talk to your brother. I haven't heard from him since he left." Sarah said

"Hi son, how are you? She said to her son on FaceTime.

"I'm good mum. Uncle Joe's place is more comfortable than it used to be over the years in his former house. He has really improved I must say." James said

"That's great news!" Sarah replied

"By the way has dad called you?" James asked

"No he hasn't" Sarah replied

"Ok I guess maybe because he's busy. I just called him some moment ago and he told me he has arrived but he's at work so you should see him after his work shift." James said.

"Thank you son for reaching out to the family. I love you." Sarah said.

"I love you too mum. kindly give back the phone to Diana let me speak with her before I end the call. James said

"Hey bro! What's up?" Diana said after collecting back the phone from her mum.

"You already asked me that. I'm good by the way. He laughed

"So I have a little surprise for you." James said to Diana.

"What is it? I'm dying to find out!" she replied and giggled.

"Go to my room. Open my drawer, you will see 50 bucks in there that I left. You can have it to yourself. Buy whatever you like with it and enjoy your day." James said.

"Oh that's so kind of you bro!" she replied with joy

"You're my little sister. You deserve gifts sometimes." James said.

"I love you so much bro." She said while blowing him a kiss on FaceTime.

"I love you too sis. James said with a smile on his face as he ended the call.

Few hours later Joe returned from work.

"Hi Uncle Joe! How was your day at work?" James asked.

"It went well. How did yours go?" he replied

"Interesting actually! I got to meet this beautiful neighbour of yours." James said

"You mean Anita? Anita came here today? Joe asked with a little surprise

"Yes she did. Initially she came asking of you." James said.

"Asking of me? what for?" Joe asked

"The bulb in her room got burnt so she needed assistance in changing it that's why she came here to look for you but unfortunately you had already gone to work. I volunteered to help her out." James said

"Oh I see" Joe replied.

"By the way she's really pretty I would say. She also offered me some snacks after I helped her out." James added.

"Oh really! She did that?" Joe said

"Yes she did and by the way uncle Joe could I ask you for some tips?" James asked.

"Sure what tips are you looking for? I'll gladly help." Joe replied.

"I really like that girl Anita and would love to go and see her but first I need to know what I should do to get her attracted to me or at least give me a chance." James said

"Hahaha" Joe laughed

"I see. Well I have also been a teenager so I know exactly how you feel and just what you need to get her attention. We'll discuss this over dinner. Right now I need to take a shower, get some rest and then prepare dinner." Joe said.

"Thank you so much uncle Joe! I'm counting on you." James replied.

"You can count on me anytime." Joe said as he made his way into his room to take a shower and rest.

James then started watching documentaries in the living room.
