Chapter 4 ARRESTED

Mayor's residence

Still March 9th Thursday 09:00 am

"kprannn" came the sound as a result of the clash between the vase and the wall of the Mayor's house.

Right now, there were three groups in the Mayor's already messed up living room.

Group A which had James and Helen backing each other one with a shotgun and the other, a pocket knife both panting heavily.

Group B which consisted of the masked infiltrators all four lined up with bloodstained clothes two facing James and the other two, Helen ,showing no fear for the weapons their opponents held and group C which had one bald headed man, a beautiful woman and a young girl tied together on the floor; the mayor and his family.

" are you kidding me right now, what sort of creatures are these that refused to remain dead" Helen yelled frustrated.

" I thought these kind of things only happened in the movies, seriously this is some bad juju" Helen kept on ranting having forgotten to think of a way to permanently kill these masked creatures.

JJamesin the other hand was mute. He kept on staring at the masked creatures and suddenly grew attracted to the one on the left, his mask was not in place giving out his right eye.

It was dark and void of emotions.

The sight of this took James back to the dream he once had when he was still ten years.

He felt the same chill as of 18 years ago. For a moment he froze, he went numb of everything happening around him.

Just as he was about being struck by the masked creature, he remembered being pulled.

He felt that same way as if he was being pulled right out of the trance he was in.

He came back to reality only to witness the withering of the creatures.

Somehow, they became defenseless and started withering making slight grunts until they remained no more in the room.

The mayor's wife passed out in shock.

James just stood there staring at nothing in particular while Helen quickly went to untie the mayor and his family.

By then, the sounds of sirens could be heard everywhere in the street.

Divisional Police headquarters Mosan

March 9th 09:45 pm

"are you kidding me right now, we got there just in time to save the mayor and his family from dying, disappearing mysteriously or being abducted and that makes us criminals?" Helen yelled violently.

They had thought the police had come to their rescue but instead, they had come to arrest them.

Right now they are being held custody for forcefully breaking into the mayor's house and attempting murder on he and his family.

The mayor and his family have been taken somewhere safe where they are undergoing physical and psychological treatment.

Until the mayor and his family are able to make a verbal contribution to solving this particular case, James and Helen would be held as prime suspects in the police custody with no bail grant.

They would be questioned until the cops find a reasonable reason to let them off.

Benedictha Adams a police officer who has always made it her top priority to compete with Helen and was hell bent on taking her spotlight felt extremely joyful to be given the opportunity to handle a case where she was the police and her nemesis, the criminal.

She had personally requested that Helen especially wasn't allowed bail grant.

"so what you are trying to say right now miss Helen is that you had gonna to save the mayor along with your team mate here and not to kill him and you didn't force your way through because the gate was wide open with no security guards to stop you and you got to the mayor's living room to meet him tied up with his family by some mysterious masked creatures who surprisingly never permanently die but somehow started withering on their own after several attempts to kill them. Right?" Officer Benedictha stated refusing to believe Helen's explanation.

Helen sighed, she knew no one was going to believe their story.

" look I know it sounds unbelievable the thing is, that's the truth, that's the whole truth believe me" Helen pleaded.

" Look miss Helen this is not your fantasy world where you can make up things with your mind and I'm not gonna believe you because you asked me to, I'm only gonna believe the truth and truth is always backed by proofs." Benedictha spoke proudly trying to show off her detective skills.

" that being established, what would you like to have; I mean anything to eat, drink. Whatever it is, just place your order."

And with that, she attempted walking out of the interrogation room but stopped midway to turn back again "enjoy it while it lasts Helen because very soon, I'd be the one giving the orders" she gave a wicked smirk before leaving the room.

Helen had refused to order anything to eat nor drink. Never did she ever think her foe was going to be above her in such a situation.

James wasn't doing well either. He had not said a word since the fantasy that played out in the mayor's living room. His mind was blank, there was so much to be thought of yet, yet he wasn't thinking. As a matter of fact, he wasn't himself. He was still trying to decipher what was happening to him.

Two days ago, he was a normal jobless journalist hungry for cases to solve but right now, he still found it ahrd to believe that so much had changed in such a short space of time.

"seriously, you always have something to say and yet you haven't said anything since yesterday, even during the interrogation session you just...." Helen kept ranting to herself unknown to her, James was on his own world It was like he wasn't in control of himself anymore.

Helen kept on yelling despite the several warnings she had received from the police until she turned and was face-face with James and what she saw, was not a pleasing sight.
