Chapter 4 Friends Yeah right!

I woke up feeling pains all over my body I did not get much sleep last night, I kept tossing and turning in the bed, I did not want a repeat of yesterday morning.

I took a look outside it should be sometime around 4:00 am I am glad I woke up before him, he must have drank a lot last night, he does that a lot of times, and times like this are when I fear for my life the most, I'm just happy he is still sleeping if not, a repeat of yesterday morning will take place.

I quickly went to the bathroom, brushed my teeth, did my business, and took my bath, I wore a slightly worn sundress and my tattered high boots, and a jacket and I wore a little makeup to mask up my bruises, the makeup was mostly concealer an eyeliner.

I brushed my hair and tied it into a ponytail and I grabbed my backpack and went downstairs.

I made breakfast for him quickly and as soon as I was done, I remembered my backpack was empty and all of my books were in my room.

I walked slowly to my room to gather my books, what will I go to do in school without my books, pen, eraser and a calculator? after I was done I went to the living room to find it empty, I was relieved that he was still in his room and he was asleep, but if only I knew how wrong I was.

I heard footsteps coming downstairs towards the living room, I quickly went to the kitchen to grab an apple and two bananas and made it out of there in a nick of time.

I made it out without any slaps or punches this morning, thank God, I shoved the apple and the bananas into my backpack and went to school, I was not good with directions so I had to ask for metro puritan high school along the way, it will take me a while to know the way to school on my own, maybe a couple of days.

When I finally got to school I met Dinela and Austin in the parking lot waiting for someone probably Alero, but Alero was with them but standing next to a car, so who are they waiting for?

The moment Alero sighted me she rushed to my side and greeted me, she asked how I was doing and I answered her politely.

Dinela and Austin came up to us they also greeted me, Dinela proceeded in addressing yesterday's matter that unfolded in the cafeteria.

"Debby gold is a first-class slut, she has laid almost every guy in the school and her minion Happiness Ogunshina Aryka." She said with a face of disgust.

A tall slim girl, light-skinned with long hair and wearing short cloth, follows Debby gold everywhere and she does whatever Debby gold asks.

"Listen Azyma I feel your pain you should not allow her to walk all over you, instead of running out like you did yesterday, you should have stood up to her that will show her that you are not to be messed with. See girl you are not the first person that she will try that little stunt with, she tried to do that to me and Austin when we first got to this school but we showed her her place since then she never even looked in our direction again." Dinela said encouragingly.

"What did you do that put her in her place?" I asked but before Dinela could answer Alero interjected.

"That is a story for another day, do not do anything rash, instead I advice advise try to avoid Debby gold as much as you can, if you do not play your cards right you will make her an enemy, and trust me you do not want that." She said brushing off Dinela's earlier statement.

Just then I glanced at Austin who has been silent, except for when he greeted me, he quickly avoided my gaze, weird.

Alero asked Austin if she was right and he said yes but Dinela grunted in disapproval, which earned her a glare from Alero.

"Azyma we want to ask you something...." Alero trailed off sternly looking me dead in the eye, I was nervous for a second there.

"What is it? You can ask." I told her.

"Azyma will you be our friend?" I let out a sigh, so that's what she wanted to ask that she looked like she found out what was going on in my life.

A gasp followed my sigh as I realized the reality of this I didn't expect that, I managed to speak but it came out as a whisper.

"friend?!" I asked at a loss of words.

"Yes," Dinela said flatly.

"Why do you look so shocked? have you never had a friend?" Dinela looked at me curiously, she's going to be a problem, I can feel it.

Alero motioned for her to be quiet but Dinela had other things in mind.

"Azyma we like you and we will love for you to be our friend, you seem very uptight but just give it a few days you will feel comfortable around us," Dinela said ever so softly "no need to be shy, and if it is not that, will you mind enlightening us why you look so shocked?" She asked looking right at me.

"You have never had a friend have you?" Alero asked surprised, really surprised but that's not the case.

"I'm not shy and of course, I have had a friend before but I do not know if she could be called my friend because she used to come to my house a lot when we were kids and we used to play together," I told them to avoid eye contact.

"We want to get to know you... if you will let us in, Azyma will you be our friend?" Austin asked speaking up for the first time saying anything today.

"We should get to class we do not want to be late for the first period," I said trying to avoid the question, I can and must never have a friend, if my stepfather even guesses that I have a friend, not one or two but three, I'm doomed!!!

"If you agree to be our friend you can join us at our table in the cafeteria during lunchtime, but if you do not want to be our friend you can pick another table to sit on." Said Alero.

"Okay." This is school, even nerds have friends, so why am I so different? Oh, I know, maybe because I'm living with a sociopathic bastard, who is determined to make my life hell and filled with misery.

We left the parking lot and entered the school, I went to my locker and got my books out, I am having use of English for the first period.

I closed my locker and went to class.

I entered the class and the teacher Mr. Walter scolded me for being late to class and says the next time it happens I will be sent to detention.

I quietly went to my seat not before sighting the west guy, the one that saved me from Debby gold, and he is staring right at me.

Does he not know that it is rude to stare, I kept walking and found an empty seat.

Up close I could see west physical features properly, he is a little dark with ear piercing and long hair, black eyes and he is tall too, the empty seat was a seat beside West's seat, great.

I brought out my book and the class started Mr. Walter talked about a new book "A look Beyond."

I completely zoned out, because I have read the book before, well half of the book Mrs. Juliet lent to me, I was thinking about what Alero, Dinela, and Austin said, they seemed very nice and they treated me sweetly.

I will tell them that I agree to be their friend, I will sit at their lunch table today I thought smiling.

I then remembered that my stepfather never allowed me to have friends.

If he finds out that I have friends he will beat me to a pulp and he will punish me for even having friends I can not have anyone except him he has made sure of that then a frown replaced my smile.

Well, Mr. Walter was keeping an eye on me for him to have figured I had zoned out, he called my attention and asked me why I was frowning and that I should please explain what was making me frown.

when I did not answer.

"What was the last thing I said regarding the novel?"

He went on and asked me when I did not answer him. I could not say a word the class murmured and he motioned them to keep quiet.

"I want to see a summary of the novel on my desk first thing tomorrow morning!" He said shooting spears at me.

"Yes sir," I said before leaving and marching into the hallway with a long face.

I went to my locker to get my books for my second class but it was immediately slammed back right on my face and turned around to see who, it was just my luck, Debby gold.

"Hey little mice, our chat was interrupted last time thanks to a friend of mine, but guess what he is not here." She said with a smug look on her face.

I heard a giggle that sounded more like a constipated leprechaun, I am guessing she is Debby gold's best friend Ogunshina Happiness Aryka. The description Dinela gave me fit her perfectly, I dared to answer Debby gold back.

"What do you want?" I yelled at her pretty pink face.

"Oh so you are interested in the game I am playing little mice, you are asking me what I want from you right? Aryka are you listening to her? she is asking me what I want from her?" She said to her friend who gave me an evil smirk.

While I was distracted busy staring at her friend Debby gold rose her hand to my face.....she slapped me right across the face.

I lost some of the self-control I had and retorted. "What on earth did I do to you to deserve that?", all I got in response was an ugly smirk from her "answer me!? Why did you do that to me?" I asked hurt, by now we already had a handful of the audience watching us, watching what Debby gold will do to the new transfer student.

"I have been in this school for only two days and you are already troubling me, if you dare try this again-" I began, I was filled with hurt, my cheeks stung like shit and.......

"What will you do? Huh answer me you little mice what will you do?" She asked glaring at me.

"I will make you pay... I promise." I said sternly, boring holes into her.

"Empty threats hun, game little mice I will love to see you try to make me pay." She said faking a yawn, pretending to be bored by all this.

Then immediately the bell for the second period rang, I saw the people that want to be my friend stand there doing nothing but stare at me with pitiful gazes, and that further infuriate me.

"Looks like lunch is over, I will be on my way little mice, but bye." She said but I was paying her little to no attention, my gaze was focused on the trio that stood there, the people that want to be friends walked up to me.

"Are you okay?" Dinela asked as she walked up to me "do not take what happened to heart." She said and Alero agreed with her and tried to speak but I stopped her.

"What do you want to say? that I should take heart, that I should not get upset-" I started. To say I was hurt doesn't even begin to explain how I feel.

"Azyma please calm down." Alero cooed.

"Oh please keep all your sweet talks to yourself, what were you telling me in the parking lot?! that I should be your friend, that you like me, when a person like someone they do not fold their arms while that person gets insulted!!!! I do not want to be your friend and I do not want to have anything to do with you!!! Please leave me alone. I have a class to attend now, I will leave now, excuse me!!" I told them and stomped off.

"What we did was very wrong we should have helped her out instead of just standing there," Alero said feeling bad.

"Alero does not beat yourself up about this what could we have done?" Dinela comforts her putting a hand on her shoulders and pulling her in.

"Alero? Dinela is right we could not have done anything, if we had intervened things would have just gotten worst." Austin placed his hand on Alero's shoulder. The trio, hands on each other's shoulders comforting each other.

"Come on let us go to our various classes we are already late," Dinela said looking at her.

"You are right to let us go." Alero agreed and they all left. I watched them from the corner I was, out of their sight, my chest heaved, they care not about me but each other, I shouldn't bother myself.

My heart swelled, tears rolled freely down my cheeks, my eyes were puffing, I felt bad, hurt, and most of all, I felt alone.
