We were having a great time. Jaren was handling shopping with us really well. We had gone into a million stores and he didn't say much at all. Just paid for the few items he got. I was so curious. he didn't buy much. A few pairs of jeans, some sneakers and a couple of hoodies. I know his dad gave him a lot of money, so I was a bit surprised at his modest purchases. "Jaren, are there any stores you want to go it that we haven't looked at?" I wanted to make sure he got what he wanted.

He turned to me, "I'd like to go by that book store one day. As for what's here, I could use some socks but I can get those at any store. Lead the way ladies..Just don't forget to take a break at the food court for me." He smiled. He had to be the most chill guy. He didn't look put out like a lot of these guys here did.

Rain squealed. " We HAVE to go in there!" I looked where she was pointing. It was the fanatic store. Star Wars and Star Trek Galore. The one great divide in our friendship. I'm team Star Wars. She's (wrongly) team Star Trek.

"Great idea. Maybe we can bring you over to the darkside." I teased. She turned around and stuck her tongue out at me. They had some great items. There was an R2D2 dress I just HAD to have. I grabbed 2, one a size 8 the other a 10 and headed for the changing area. I glanced at Jaren. He was sitting on the chairs with his eyes closed. I let myself into the room and tried on both dresses. They both looked ok but I went with the 8. Maybe it was a bit more figure flattering. never know when I may meet my mate. I smiled to myself and walked out of the dressing area. All of a sudden a hand went over my mouth and an arm around my neck. I was being pulled backwards. I began to panic. I tried to mindlink Rain but I started feeling woozy. I sent "dressing room" and that was all I remembered.

I heard the sounds around me before I could really make out what was going on. I couldn't quite open my eyes, so I just laid there and listened. I heard a voice that I didn't know say "We have been watching her since she was born. No matter what you think or feel she IS one of us as well" It was a male voice. One I wasn't familiar with but it was so soothing. "Besides," he continued" there is a possibility she is my mate." I wish her no harm and was waiting for the genes to kick in before making myself known but I intend to keep her safe. Obviously, I may need to keep her closer as well." He sounded irritated.

"Look, I understand your frustration.. but she could be my mate as well. For now I 100% agree with you that security must be put in place. I'm not really sure of the scent that I smelled there. It's the second time I have smelled it and now, scenting you I am sure it wasn't fae. We need to work together on this. Everything else can work out in time. " Jaren sounded every bit the alpha he would become.

That voice again "This is acceptable. I would like to go to the alleyway, see what i can smell and observe. It hasn't been 5 days yet, some of the aura should be there still. If I can see that, I can tell what we are dealing with." I heard him come closer. Felt him touch my hair. "You are beautiful." I heard him murmur. "It seems she is well provided for in your pack, yes? We have had an account for her since birth so if anything is ever needed..." He trailed off

Rain answered him "They take great care of her. To be honest I had no idea her mom was not actually her mom. She has always been close to her father,but this is shocking news. But to be honest she is truly cared for. That's not something you have to be concerned about. I do have a question. If she IS your mate, does she have to leave the pack?" Her voice trembled.

"She would. But I would bring her back as often as she wanted and would not be opposed to buying property nearby if she wanted as long as respect of boundaries was used. I do not wish to upend her life. Just make her happy." He touched my cheek.. It tingled. I wanted to say something but still felt I couldn't.

Rain asked more questions." Did you guys ask to keep it secret or her father?Will you tell her today? If you ever hurt her I'd rip your throat out. "

The man chuckled. "I see she has a loyal friend. Actually The wolves wanted it kept secret. She isn't the first of her type but it's been centuries. They wanted to study. They said they would share everything and when she came of sage she would come stay with us for a bit then make her choice. We said we would always have someone watching her and someone helping conduct the studies and genealogy. We didn't want to harm her. We also asked that they refrain from teaching her about the fae as wolves can't teach a fae to be a fae. Only we can. Just as we can't teach a wolf to be a wolf."

"I see." Rain said "Then it seems you all have been generous and fair and for that I thank you on behalf of my friend. Just make sure I can see her when she leaves. "

He replied " You will but she has a few years still before her fae heritage kicks in . We have extremely long lives so we don;t come into our powers if you will around 21 to 25. With this, if we leave before she recovers, we will continue the original plan. If she wakes up we will play it by ear."

"GET UP! DON'T LET HIM LEAVE US!" My wolf was in a tizzy. She did not want him to go . I have to admit, neither did I.Besides I wanted to know where I was and what he looked like. I waited a second while they talked amongst themselves. I opened one eye and noticed two things: I was in an office with some medical supplies but more importantly that beautiful voice belonged to what had to be the most gorgeous man I had ever seen in my life. My body felt warm all over just looking at him. It's like he felt me looking at him . His head snapped around quickly then he rushed to my side.

"Tani." That one word sent chills through me. I tried sitting up and he helped. There was so much I wanted to say but the only thing that came out was "What am I?"
