Being the student body president of Iver High School, was such a big deal. It was the biggest and most populated school in Glazen town, and being the president of the students, was equal to being the head of the young people in town.
You'd get to have meetings with the mayor of the town, be the spokesman for the young people, and set a pace politically. And Jamie always had a thing for politics. It became his dream to become student body president after he had seen the type of power the past president wielded.
Jamie's life was not short of disappointments and betrayals. First from his mum, who was the same as dead to him for as long as he could remember. She wasn't part of his life. All he could remember were late nights, early mornings, night duties, and emergency surgeries.
He always knew there was something clandestine about his dad. He could see through the smiles and affection he always put to their faces. Unmasking his father wasn't difficult. It just took a little bit of stalking and rummaging of his work closet to find out the truth.
The discovery gave birth to a new kind of fury and feelings towards his sister. Angry at his parents' attitude towards raising and caring for them.
He had always loved Jules, more deeply than he knew. This love was evidenced by his overprotective character towards her. He wanted no other guy around her. Initially, this was just a natural instinct a brother will have for his sister, but the new discovery led to a deeper feeling of love that was not just instincts. But ever since she betrayed him ---- supported his political rival --- he thought differently of her. He wanted revenge. His feelings of love metamorphosed to anger and hate.
So, defeating Jayden was not just political, it had more to do with emotions. He wanted to win him so bad, that it would hurt. But the tables were turned on him. He lost.
Jules struggled to see through her teary eyes. She almost stumbled on the stairs but was caught by a guy she couldn't recognize, and who she was soberer than. She managed to make it to the entrance, amidst the tears. She could feel eyes on her as she left. The sudden silence told her so. She knew she had created a scene. The guys she met in the hallway before she got to Jayden's room had no sympathy at all; their laughter was piercing. Jules wasn't so aware of where she was after she left the building. The rays of light from the street bulb blinded her and she could barely see.
Her heart pounded so fast, she knew she was on the street where vehicles drove on, but she continued to walk without checking if it was safe. Then she heard a large screech; then smoke filled the air. She thought she was knocked down and fell to the floor. She could hear a man scream from behind the steering wheel, "get out of the way!" She stood up, realizing she was fine and walked away to the sidewalk, where she sat to regain herself.
Peter looked over the many heads of dancing teenagers, looking for Jules. After a futile search on the first floor and at the pool, he climbed up the stairs till he got to the hallway. "Where do you think you're going?" "I'm looking for someone, Jules. See her?" "Jules, you mean Jayden's ex?" Peter raised a brow at the mention of sex. "Uhm.... I do not know if they're still together but...." The other boys laughed, then Jayden appeared.
"Look who we have here. If it isn't lover boy Pete." Jayden was all dressed up then, ready to party. His hair was combed to perfection and his teeth sparkling enough to highlight his other features: high cheekbones, a square masculine face, a straight nose, and a perfect light skin complexion, devoid of any blemishes. Who wouldn't fall for that?
"Where is Jules?" Jayden let out an arrogant laugh and the rest of his squad, or more appropriately, his minions joined in. "I said where is she?!" "Easy now lover boy. You know, I would have helped you, but Jayden Iver doesn't keep track of his trash after he's tossed them out." "Oouuhhhh..." his squad laughed at his jokes. Without thinking for a second, Peter rushed towards him and hit his face so hard that he fell to the floor. The other boys tried to attack Peter, but he was swift enough to get away from them. One punch was all he needed, and it was satisfying.
He decided that Jules was no longer at the party. The fact that the boy he didn't know mentioned ex and Jayden said trash, gave him a hint about what had happened, and he concluded that she had left the party. But to where?
"Jamie! Jamie! Open up it's Jules!" She was home then, tired and sad. The last thing she needed was drama from her older brother, even though she expected it, and knew that she deserved it. She wasn't going to play the blame game, all she needed was comfort. She kept knocking till a familiar figure appeared at the door.
"Thank God" she sighed and let herself in. She was a bit more composed, but she fell on him, tearing up. "Jamie, I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. I honestly do not deserve you" she paused and loosened her grip to look at her brother's face. He was drunk. The empty whiskey bottle she sighted ahead of where they stood confirmed her suspicions.
"Jamie, you've been drinking. Oh my...." "Why are coming to me, Jules? You've come to mock me?" "No Jamie, of course not. I'm truly sorry." He chuckled. "Because your lover dumped you?" Jules stepped back in surprise. "The posts are on people's stories. New Iver queen cheated on and dumped. How pathetic." "Stop it, Jamie. I'm already hurt enough. I came here for you to be my peace. Please be my peace." "Pfftt..." Jamie was not buying her pity party. "You know, if I didn't know about our real identities, I would have said you got your manipulative nature from dad." "This isn't the first time you're saying this, Jamie. What do you mean?" "I thought you were smart Jules, turns out grades don't determine shit." "Let it out already!" "You're not a Davis girl. I am not one, you're not one." "What do you mean by that?" Jamie let out a sigh. "Okay you have brown hair; I have red hair. Both mum and dad have black hair." "So? It could be recessive genes." "Oh, really now, genetics?" He raised a brow. "Okay, ever wondered why Dad isn't keen on grooming either of us to take over his company? Or why mum never cared about our well-being to the extent of abandoning us as kids?" "Oh, please, Jamie, don't be dramatic. Dad hasn't groomed any of us because he believes in letting people make choices for themselves. He's not the one to impose a career on anyone." Jamie shook his head in disbelief. "About mum, I know there's no excuse for her, and that she had the power to make things work if she wanted to, but she was a surgeon. Like stand for hours, see patients all day long, kind of doctor. Besides, no one really knows why she decided to leave. Maybe it was just too much for her." "Oh my God, you're so naïve. Like what the actual hell?" "I am not naïve, Jamie. I'm just telling the truth. You on the other hand have no proof." "You know what maybe you're right; I have no proof." His voice went low, and he held her tightly and leaned towards her. Then it what was meant to be a whisper he said, "I'm in love with you, Jules." "What do you mean by that?" "I mean it, Jules, I love you, I always have." He reached for her neck and kissed her. Then he drew a trail down her neck to her breast. "Stop it, Jamie. Stop! This is why you made up the adoption story? To satisfy your lust? You disgust me." And she pulled away from him, but he was stronger and determined.
"Jules, you've run away from me for so long, tonight is my only chance. I want you." "You're fucking insane, let go of me." He held her tightly and started to kiss her. "Somebody help!" "No, no now. No need for that I'm not going to hurt you." He burped, and it smelled of alcohol."Jamie please...." She started crying profusely, her hands in a begging gesture. "Why? Don't you love me too? Because I'm not Jayden. Comm'n, I'm prettier than that arrogant bastard." "Jamie, please, I know I've wronged you but please... I'm sorry." He paused like he was having a change of heart. "Comm'n Jules, please. I love you. You know this." She was still sobbing. He paused to dry her tears with his hand and kissed her. "I really love you, Jules, give me a chance, plea...."
