Chapter 27 No.27

WOUNDER HEART

"NO, I don't like your Idea," he said in a slightly chuckled way. He gave me a glare before he continued. "Or maybe I should hire someone else, Meredith can't."

My lashes fall down slowly, my two cheeks immediately heat up with embarrassment.

"Why not? She is good and qualified for the position, besides she already has experience as a secretary, right Meredith?" Alessandra turn her head on me, then she nods.

"Yeah, but-"

"Great, you are now the new secretary of Gabriel. Is it okay with you right?" Alessandra spilled her final word.

I swallow, it was hard. I said nothing of how fast she would decide. She can easily manipulate everything, like what she has done to Gabriel.

I looked up at Gabriel, "What can you say about it?" he asked. He keep his eyes fixed on me, until my eyes met with his.

"I-I don't think, I'm capable of doing this job." I answered truthfully, it never crossed my mind to step out of the comfort zone I have now. I can't put Gabriel in doubt especially myself.

"See? She wasn't so sure. Is that how you're going to enter our company?" he said, each and every word felt like a dagger in my heart.

"In that case, we don't have to talk anymore. I expect Sarah's resignation letter tomorrow morning at your table." Alessandra declared, she turned on her heels and stomped towards upstairs.

"Sandra..." he said with a hard voice, but the latter ignored him as he continued to climb the stairs.

After a long moment of silence, Gabriel turned his eyes on me.

"You wrongly assumed I'm looking for a secretary, which I'm not." His words stung. It hurts very much hearing his say that. I bowed and backed away slightly because of what he said.

"I didn't expect it either," I said, my voice cracked. Vision was fixed on the ground

He smirked, "How about me, then?" he mumbled irritably.

My vision moved back to him, emotion flashed across my face. If I could just shout it I would have done it but he is the boss here. I also can't pretend that I'm hurt by the words he utters.

"You're right, you should hire someone better, or fire your secretary instead," I said.

I didn't wait for him to speak because I quickly turned my back on him to go to my own room.

My knees trembled as I leaned against the back of the door and blinked emphatically. I don't know if I'm feeling hungry or because of the intense resentment towards Gabriel so I'm fainting.

Am I right here? Is it worthy to stay by his side, even if you're not sure if he'll come back to me when the truth comes out? Do I still believe in the power of love and promises? How long will I have to wait for him to return?

I bent down to wipe the tears from my cheeks. I smiled bitterly. "You're just hungry, Emory." I barely whisper to myself. So what I did was I sailed to the bathroom to take a shower.

I chose to wear the pajamas that Zekiah had given me back then. This is actually his gift for me when we're on college. We were in love then in the third month of the relationship when he gave me this gift. I was expecting something sweet like chocolates or flowers, but instead he gave me this pajamas. It's like every time I miss him at night or we're far from each other, I always think he's with me and next to sleep.

I'm not really materialistic when it comes to a relationship. Simple gestures like, date underneath the moonlight would be enough for me. I also don't force Zekiah to give me expensive things. Because his life is not like my luxurious life.

Their family's only livelihood is farming, but this has not been an obstacle for them to graduate from a business management course. His father passed away years before our wedding, his mother also died of a heart attack. He has three siblings, one also graduated in business management course, while two are still studying in the course they want. They are scholars of our company and have a job waiting in case they choose to join the company that Gabriel used to run.

I'm not unaware that Mommy was upset with Gabriel because of his status in life but she was determined to show that she was worthy of me. He worked hard for it, he did everything to grow the company that Mommy handled for him. Even against entering our company, he did it.

We only had one small building and had atleast ten employees who were Gabriel and I partners in growing the Jewelry store, besides we thought of designing Jewelry to increase income as well as we thought of building a Shopping Malls. Our first launching jewerly with our very own piece, was successfully held at the same roofs, almost upset all the designs that Gabriel and I made even though the venue was small. Until more and more of our customers need to expand the shop and build some branches in the citys.

And before the end of the year we also started building a shopping mall on Queensland Island. Here Gabriel mastered his management course, he well managed our jewelry shop as well as our new shopping malls. It doesn't end there because we have opened another shopping mall on the east coast and the last one is the Industrial company where we are the producer of materials for building and constructions supply that are in demand now in the market.

I'm very much proud of him, he showed how responsible he is as my husband. He did everything to be out of the shadow of our family. He gained respect not only from our employees but from my family, especially Mom.

I sighed painfully, staring at the mirror. I combed my over-shoulder hair all the way before lowering the hairbrush to the dresser with contentment. I glanced at the baby blue pajamas I was wearing before leaving the room.

The whole house was dark when I came out. Only the rays of the bright moon hit some parts of it. I flicked the light switch to open it and it was slightly closed due to the sudden light.

I open my eyes slowly, only to find out that someone is at the counter bar. My eyes widened in surprise. It seemed like my feet wanted to come back but it was too late. The light is on and it's already looking at me.

He scrubbed his stubble jaw while looking at me sharply. I swallowed, not knowing what to do.

"Uh, I'm sorry... looks like I disturbed you." I slowly said,

I prepared myself to leave but my feet became even more tense with his violent sigh as he poured the wine into the glass.

"Just continue." His eyes quickly lit up, staring at me for a few seconds.

"N-no, I'll go back to my room too. I'm just checking around, " I said, keeping my voice casual.

"Checking what?" he asked curiously.

My eyes immediately rolled and backed away slightly. I can't find the right answer to that question.

He sighed and ruffled his hair frustratedly. "Just do what ever you want." He gestured with his hand giving me the right to enter to do what I wanted.

I hesitated for a moment, but finally I decided to step my feet in. I stood up and quickly step towards the oak table. My plan to cook dinner ended up with cup noodles. I could feel the trembling of my hands as the hot water poured into the cup because I could feel its warm gaze on me.

Also because of the hurry, it was inevitable that my hand would get wet in the hot water. I sighed painfully, feeling the wound on my hand even more. I close my eyes in pain. I bite my own lip so as not to make a noise.

Even though I wanted to stay in this place for a while to eat comfortably. I decided to grab the cup noodles back to my room.

"You haven't yet eat your dinner?" He suddenly spoke as I faced the bar counter. He shiveled his chair to face me, while swirling his rock glass sexily.
