Chapter 4 Cody 2

I stared at the phone after calling Lora's sister, Kaitlyn. Is something wrong? Lora hadn't answered her mobile phone, which was unlike her. Unless she was on a case or unconscious, and now her sister was acting weird.

Did Lora get hurt in one of her missions again? I shook my head in disbelief; Lora was the best hunter at school. If any evil creature would even lay a finger on her they would end up in pieces.

I looked over to my bed and saw the strange overly large black glove on it. I frowned, if anyone would know the purpose of the glove or how to handle my situation it would be Lora. I quickly grabbed my phone once more and typed in Lora's number, which I knew off by heart.

I waited as it rang out, again. I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried about Lora, even in the middle of battle she could quickly answer her phone and tell me to call her back. I decided instead of thinking the worst that she must be tracking, and her phone was on silent.

I sighed, if that was true she would be breaking her agreement with her parents. I listened to my old fan that clung to my ceiling as it squeaked in disapproval of the slow work it was forced to do.

I had a feeling this overly large glove wasn't all that it appeared to be, and it made no sense for Dylan to have a glove which did not fit him. Dylan's reaction was strange, he didn't seem to fuss when I told him I had this item but he clearly wanted it back. His reaction showed that.

It would explain his overly friendly nature when I told him. I suddenly got up and grabbed my school bag, quickly dumping the school books and objects within then stuffing the glove inside. I quickly raced out of my tiny bedroom and over to the kitchen where my mum was creating her 'masterpiece'.

"I am going out Mum, save me some for when I get home." I said, rushing my words.

"But honey, what if you get hungry before you get home? You should wait until before going out." she said in a patronizing tone.

"Mum it will be dark before I finish and you won't let me out." I whined slightly, these verbal disagreements were a usual thing but I found the more childish I was with her the more lenient she became.

I watched her study my face for a few seconds before replying.

"Okay honey, I'll save some dinner for you. You can have it when you get back."

"Thank you, Mum." I smiled as I raced to the door.

My father would disapprove of me going out now but I needed answers. I needed to know if Lora was okay and what was the purpose of the strange glove I temporarily possessed. I trekked the familiar path to Lora's house.

My house was a fair way away from Lora's but I was used to the walk. Once upon a time I would walk from my house to her house every day, but that was a long time ago when we were still going out.

I should have caught a bus this time as the glove in my bag was weighing me down, but I would like to get home soon. I don't like eating cold food. Sighing with relief as I finally found my way to her front driveway, I took a brief minute to rest my tired legs before ringing her doorbell.

It echoed out through the large house before I heard the light pitter-patter of feet and the door being ripped open in front of me. There was Kaitlyn, Lora's younger sister and two years her junior.

For a second she looked surprised to see me before I saw her eyes darken, I inwardly flinched. What did I do to anger her? She looked me up and down before stating.

"You're that desperate to see Lora?"

I stared in numb shock before she continued. "Ringing the home phone how many times, and her mobile? Even my mobile phone? Yeesh, I would think you would have realized she has dumped you for someone else already."

All I could do was ask pitifully.

"Is she here?"

"No." Kaitlyn scoffed, as the dark look in her eyes appeared again. "She is grounded for sneaking out, but it looks like she snuck out again." She spoke with a monotone voice before cheerfully adding "But if there is anything I can help you with, I would be happy to do so." She twisted her hair as she said this, looking deep into my eyes. I felt as if she was looking for something.

A blush crept across my face as a thought popped into my head but I pushed it away.

"Um yeah, can I come inside?" I decided that even though she wasn't Lora, she was a hunter and she might know something about the weird glove Dylan owned.

A smile appeared on Kaitlyn's face before opening the door wider and leading me inside. I walked into the familiar living room. Kaitlyn plopped on the couch and I set myself on the opposite end, although she leaned over to fill the distance.

"So, what did you need me for?" she asked slowly. The blush reappeared on my face as I stammered.

"I-I um, am minding this for-for a friend, and um since you have hunter experience, I-I was wondering if it was special or something."

I pulled out the overly large glove and handed it to her. She glanced at it for a few moments before handing it back.

"It's an Ogre's glove." She declared. I stared at her before replying.

"Ogres don't transform do they, from humans into beasts?"

Kaitlyn scoffed "No." before looking down at her mobile.

"It would just explain why we don't see ogres at our school, you know, since the supernatural learn alongside us." I mentioned glumly, hoping I could get some clue as to why Dylan would have an ogre glove.

"No, they are too stupid to go to school with us." She snapped before muttering something else. I frowned before retrieving the glove, stuffing it in my bag and picking myself off the couch. I didn't want to stick around while Kaitlyn was PMSing.

"I have to go, it's getting dark. Bye Kaitlyn, tell Lora I said 'hi'." I rushed before leaving quickly. I frowned as I made the trek home. Kaitlyn's answer meant it was impossible for Dylan to be an ogre, but why did he have an ogre glove?

The next day I waited at the meeting spot that Dylan had suggested. The bushes that surrounded the area gave the space much privacy. This meant it was also known for fights and had a reputation for another act as well.

A blush covered my cheeks, and once again I pushed the thoughts away. I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous. Yesterday Dylan and his friend Michael were angry at me, would he decide to bash me?

Finally I heard the sound of feet and then dyed-red hair came into view. It was Dylan, and he was alone. I sighed with relief and pulled the massive glove from my bag, handing it to him.

"Thanks." He said cheerfully as he pushed the large glove into his own bag.

"Think you need a bigger bag, your books and that glove can't fit in there." I observed. Dylan laughed.

"Who says I have books? Besides, it's hard lugging around books with two massive gloves in my bag."

I stared at him but was not surprised, it would explain his grades. I was curious about the gloves.

"So my hunter friend saw them, she says they are an ogre's gloves. Do you have a cousin who is an ogre? I mean it's not surprising considering this school and all." I inquired.

"Something like that." He mumbled, before turning to me. "Look, can you not tell anyone about this?" He asked, his eyes looked slightly desperate. I sighed before agreeing with a nod. "Great, well I best be off. Bye mate." He said happily before turning and running off.

I simply stared after him, that meeting was certainly weird and what was Dylan hiding? I left the way Dylan came, mentally deciding to tell Lora of the events that had transpired. I just wonder if she made it to school today.
